Product Usage Instructions

To use the Vishay General Semiconductor rectifier, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the specific model of the rectifier needed for your application (e.g., 1N5400, 1N5401, etc.).
  2. Ensure that the rectifier is suitable for your desired application, such as power supply rectification, inverter usage, converter implementation, or freewheeling diodes application.
  3. Refer to the mechanical data to understand the physical characteristics of the rectifier, including the case type, molding compound rating, base P/N, terminal plating, and polarity marking.
  4. Install the rectifier into your circuit or device, ensuring that the cathode end is correctly oriented according to the color band marking.
  5. Take into account the maximum ratings of the rectifier, such as the maximum repetitive peak reverse voltage (VRRM), maximum RMS voltage (VRMS), maximum DC blocking voltage (VDC), peak forward surge current (IFSM), and operating junction and storage temperature range (TJ, TSTG).
  6. Consider the typical thermal resistance (RJA) when mounting the rectifier on a PCB with appropriate heatsinks.
  7. Observe the average forward rectified current and instantaneous forward surge current curves provided in the documentation to ensure the rectifier is operated within safe limits.
