SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- The term “power tool” in all the warnings below refers to mains-powered (corded) or battery-powered (cordless) power tools.
WORK AREA
- Keep the work area clean and well lit. Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
- Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gas or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
- Keep children and onlookers at a safe distance when using power tools. You can easily lose control of the tool if you are distracted.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
- The plug on the power tool must match the power point. Never modify the plug in any way.
- Never use an adapter with earthed power tools.
- Unmodified plugs and matching outlets reduce the risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.
- Never use the power cord to carry or pull the machine, or to pull out the plug from the power point. Keep the power cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or tangled power cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- If using the tool outdoors, only use an extension cord approved for outdoor use. Cords intended for outdoor use reduce the risk of electric shock.
- If it is absolutely necessary to use the power tool in damp conditions, use a mains connection protected by a residual current device RDC. A residual current device reduces the risk of electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
- Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.
- Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses. Depending on the type of power tool and how it is used, safety equipment such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmets and ear protection reduce the risk of personal injury.
- Avoid accidental starting. Make sure the power tool is switched off before plugging in the power cord and/or battery, or lifting/carrying the tool. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains when the switch is in the ON position, increases the risk of accidents.
- Remove adjuster keys/spanners before switching on the power tool. Allen keys, or the like, left in a rotating part of a power tool can cause personal injury.
- Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This ensures better control over the power tool in unexpected situations.
- Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewellery and long hair can get caught in moving parts.
- If dust extraction and dust collection equipment is available, this should be connected and used correctly. The use of such devices can reduce the risk of dust-related problems.
USE AND CARE
- Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The tool does the job better and safer when used at the rate for which it was designed.
- Do not use the tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.
- Pull out the plug or remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidently starting the tool.
- Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced persons.
- Keep the power tool properly maintained. Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before being used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
- Use power tools, accessories, and bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, with due consideration to the actual working conditions and the work that is to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those they are intended to be used for.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORDLESS POWER TOOLS
- Only use a battery charger recommended by the manufacturer. Using a battery charger intended for a different type of battery can result in a fire risk.
- Only use power tools with the specified batteries. The use of other batteries can result in the risk of personal injury and fire.
- When the battery is not in use keep it away from other metal objects such as paperclips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other small metal objects that can short circuit the terminals. Short circuiting the battery terminals can cause burns or a fire.
- Batteries can leak if they are not handled or used properly. Do not touch fluid leaking from a battery. If you get battery fluid on your skin, rinse immediately in plenty of fresh water. If you get battery fluid in your eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention. Leaking battery fluid can cause skin irritation or burn injuries.
SERVICE
- The power tool must only be serviced by qualified service personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR NAIL GUNS
- Always assume that a nail gun is loaded with fasteners – “there are no unloaded nail guns”. Careless handling of the tool can cause it to be fired unintentionally and cause personal injury and/or material damage.
- Never point the tool at yourself, other persons, or animals. Unintentional firing of fasteners can result in serious injury.
- Keep your fingers and the rest of your body away from the tool outlet port.
- Secure the workpiece in a safe way. This is safer than using your hands and means you have both hands free to handle the tool.
- Do not fire the nail gun unless it is firmly pressed against the workpiece. Firing the nail gun without it being firmly pressed against the workpiece can result in the uncontrolled ejection of the fastener.
- Pull out the plug from the power point and/or remove the battery before loading the nail gun with fasteners. If the nail gun is plugged in it can be fired unintentionally when trying to release a jammed fastener.
- Be careful when releasing jammed fasteners. The system can be tensioned so that the fastener can suddenly fire out with great force when you try to release it.
- Do not use the nail gun to install electric cables. Nail guns are not suitable for electrical installation work because they can damage the cable insulation and therefore cause electric shock or fire.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BATTERIES
- Remove the battery from the power tool before working on the tool (e.g. maintenance or replacing accessories) and before transporting or storing the tool.
- Never attempt to open the battery – risk of short circuiting.
- Do not expose the battery to sources of heat, e.g. naked flames or prolonged exposure to sunlight – risk of explosion.
- Do not short circuit the battery – risk of explosion.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BATTERY CHARGERS
- Check that the mains voltage corresponds to the rated voltage on the type plate. Chargers with a rated voltage of 230 V can also be used with a mains voltage of 220 V.
- Do not expose the charger to rain or moisture. There is an increased risk of electric shock if water gets into a battery charger.
- Keep the charger clean. There is an increased risk of electric shock if the charger is dirty.
- Always check before use that the charger and its power cord and plug are intact and in good condition. Do not use a damaged charger, power cord or plug. Do not dismantle the charger. The charger must only be serviced by qualified service personnel using identical spare parts. A damaged charger, power cord or plug increases the risk of electric shock.
- Do not place the charger on or near flammable materials, e.g. paper or textiles. The charger gets hot when in use, which can result in a fire hazard.
INTENDED USE
The nail gun is intended to be used to fasten paper, insulation or covering, building plastic, leather and other similar materials on wooden surfaces or other suitable materials, by means of staples or nails of the specified type. All other use is strictly prohibited.
