DESCRIPTION

Pyrography kit including soldering pen, hot knife, three pattern tips, seven cutting tips and stand. The kit is packed in the supplied storage box. The 30 W soldering pen has enough power for soldering normal electronics and reduces the risk of overheating the soldered components.

USE

PREPARATIONS

  1. Lay out all the necessary material and make sure the area where the soldering is to be carried out is well-ventilated.

  2. Plug the soldering pen into a power point.

  3. Allow the soldering tip to warm up (about 2 minutes).
    TINNING THE TIP

  4. Touch the solder with the soldering tip and allow a drop of melted solder to flow over the tip. This removes any oxide from the soldering tip. If the solder does not melt, wait a little for the soldering tip to warm up. If the solder still does not melt, see below.

  5. Wipe the soldering tip against a damp sponge to remove the solder.

SOLDERING

  1. Heat the junction by touching it with the soldering tip.
  2. Put solder in the contact point between the soldering tip and the junction.
  3. Lift off the soldering tip and the soldering wire from the junction at the same time.
  4. Check that the surface of the solder is bright and smoothed out. See troubleshooting instructions if the surface of the solder is dull.

REMOVING SOLDER BRIDGING
A solder bridge occurs if the solder from two adjacent junctions melts together. This often happens when too much solder is applied. Because solder bridges cause short circuiting on circuit boards, they must be removed by drawing the soldering tip straight through the bridge.

MAINTENANCE

Maintenance of the soldering pen preserves its correct functionality and increases its life span.

DURING USE

  • Pull out the plug when the soldering pen is not in use to counteract oxidisation of the soldering tip.

DURING STORAGE

  • Tin the soldering tip as described in the section Tinning the tip.
  • Do not pull the power cord to pull out the plug.

TROUBLESHOOTING

THE SOLDER DOES NOT MELT

  1. Wait another five minutes to allow the soldering tip to warm
up. If the solder still does not melt, go to step 2.

  2. Touch the soldering tip with a wet sponge.

    • Result 1: The soldering tip is correctly heated if steam develops and there is a hissing sound. Continue to step 3.
    • Result 2: If no steam is formed and there is no sound, connect the soldering pen to another power point. Repeat step 1.

THE SOLDERING HAS A DULL SURFACE OR SEEMS BRITTLE

  1. Clean the soldering tip with the damp sponge.
  2. Tin the soldering tip as described in the section Tinning the tip.
  3. Hold the soldering tip firmly pressed against the junction for a few seconds.
  4. Put solder in the contact point between the soldering tip and the junction.
  5. Lift the soldering tip of the junction.
