MEEC TOOLS 40 V/2 Ah Lawn Trimmer

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Always take basic safety precautions when using the product to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and/or personal injury. Read all warnings, safety instructions and other instructions carefully before use and familiarise yourself with the controls on the product and how to use them.
  • The term “power tool” in all the warnings below refers to battery-powered (cordless) power tools.
  • Wear safety glasses.
  • Never allow children or anyone who is unfamiliar with the product and these instructions, to use it.
  • Do not use the product when other persons, especially children, or pets, are in the vicinity.
  • Only use the product in daylight, or in good artificial lighting.
  • Check the product for wear and damage before use, and after a collision with a solid object.
  • Do not use the product if the guards or covers are missing or damaged.
  • Keep your hands and feet away from moving parts, especially when starting the motor.
  • Keep your hands and fingers away from the line cutter – risk of cut injury. When the trimmer line is fed out, return the product to the normal working position before starting.
  • Never fit metal blades on the product.
  • Only use parts and accessories recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Remove the battery before maintenance, inspection and/or cleaning, and when the product is not in use.
  • Always keep the ventilation openings clean.

WORK AREA

  • Keep the work area clean and well lit. Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gas or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
  • Keep onlookers, especially children, and pets at least 15 metres from the work area. You can easily lose control of the product if you are distracted.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

  • The plug on the power tool must match the power point. Never modify the plug in any way. Never use an adapter with earthed products. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.

PERSONAL SAFETY

  • Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. Remember that a fraction of a second of inattention or negligence can result in serious personal injury.
  • Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses. Depending on the type of product and how it is used, safety equipment such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmets and ear protection reduce the risk of personal injury.
  • Avoid accidental starting. Check that the power switch is in the OFF position before plugging in the plug or battery, or lifting/carrying the product. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains supply when the switch is in the ON position, increases the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Remove any adjuster keys and the like before starting the product. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the product can cause personal injury.
  • Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This ensures better control over the power tool in unexpected situations.
  • Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewellery and long hair can get caught in moving parts.
  • Wearing ear protection can make it difficult to hear sounds or warnings from the surroundings. Always pay attention to what is happening around the work area.
  • The product is not intended to be used by persons (children or adults) with any form of functional disorders, or by persons who do not have sufficient experience or knowledge on how to use it, unless they have received instructions concerning the use of the product from someone who is responsible for their safety.
  • Keep children under supervision to make sure they do not play with the product.

VIBRATION

  • Vibration levels can deviate from the declared value, depending on how the product is used.
  • During prolonged use vibrations are suspected to cause circulation problems in the hands and arms, or Raynaud’s syndrome (white fingers).

The following measures reduce the risk of injury as a result of vibrations:

  • * Keep your body and especially your hands warm. Wear gloves.
    • Exercise to increase the circulation of blood after use.
    • Take regular pauses. Limit daily exposure.
    • Stop using the product immediately and seek medical attention in the event of any symptoms of vibration disorder.

USE AND CARE

  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The power tool does the job better and safer when used at the rate for which it was designed.
  • Do not use the power tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.
  • Pull out the plug and/or remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidentally starting the power tool.
  • Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced people.
  • Keep the power tool properly maintained. Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before being used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
  • Clean the product at regular intervals according to the instructions to ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Use the power tool, accessories and bits etc., in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the actual working conditions and the work that is to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those for which they are intended to be used.

IMPORTANT: Moving parts continue to rotate for some time after the product has been switched off.

BATTERY USE AND CARE

  • The battery must only be charged with the charger recommended by the manufacturer. A charger intended for one type of battery can result in a fire risk if used with another type of battery.
  • Only use power tools with the batteries specified by the manufacturer. The use of other batteries can result in a risk of personal injury and/or fire.
  • When the battery is not in use keep it away from other metal objects such as paper-clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other small metal objects that can short circuit the terminals. Short circuiting the battery terminals can result in a risk of burns and/or fire.
  • Failure to handle the battery carefully can cause fluid to leak from the battery. Avoid contact with battery fluid. On contact with battery fluid, rinse immediately with plenty
  • of fresh water. Seek medical attention on contact with battery fluid. Fluid leaking from the battery can cause irritation or burns.

SERVICE

  • The power tool must only be serviced by qualified personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.

MAINTENANCE

  • After use and before putting away, switch off the product, wait until all moving parts have completely stopped, remove the battery and then check for damage.
  • Store the product out of the reach of children when not in use.
  • Repairs must only be carried out by an authorised service centre.
  • Only use parts and accessories recommended by the manufacturer.

USE

INTENDED USE

  • The product is intended for trimming grass and soft vegetation on small lawns in private gardens where it is not possible to use a lawn mower.
  • The rotation of the trimmer line should always be more or less parallel to the ground. Otherwise there is a risk that objects can be thrown out and cause serious personal injury and/or material damage.
  • The product is only intended for household and hobby use, and is not suitable for commercial use.
  • Do not use the product to trim hedges, bushes or flowers. Never use the product with the trimmer head rotating vertically.

STARTING/STOPPING

  1. To start the product, hold the front handle with one hand and hold the back handle with the other hand. Keep the lock button pressed and press the speed control.
  2. Stop the trimmer head by releasing the speed control. FIG. 5

WARNING! Moving parts continue to rotate for some time after the product has been switched off.

HOW TO USE

  • Hold the back hand in your right hand and the front handle in your left hand, even if you are left-handed.
  • Hold firmly with both hands while working.
  • Hold the product in a comfortable position with the back handle at about hip level.
  • Trim tall grass in steps. This avoids grass winding round the trimmer head, which can cause overheating.
  • If grass winds round the trimmer head, first remove the battery from the product and then remove the grass.

WARNING! Keep your hands, feet and other parts of your body away from moving parts – risk of serious personal injury.

Tips

  • For best results hold the trimmer head at a slight angle to the area to be trimmed.
  • The product works best when it is moved from left to right over the area to be trimmed. It cuts less effectively when moved from right to left.
  • Let the tip of the trimmer line cut the grass. Do not force the trimmer head into uncut grass.
  • Contact with solid objects, such as kurbstones, fences, walls and trees, rapidly wears the trimmer line and can also break it.
  • Avoid contact with trees and bushes. Bark, fence posts and boarding etc. can easily become damaged by the trimmer line.

FEEDING OUT THE TRIMMER LINE

NOTE:The product has automatic feeding of the trimmer line. Do not tap the trimmer head against the ground in an attempt to feed out the line, this will damage the product.

  1. Release the speed control while the product is running.
  2. Wait 2 seconds and press the speed control again. The trimmer line is fed out about 6 mm each time the speed control is released and pressed in, until it reaches the blade on the guard.
  3. Continue working.

Manual feeding out of the trimmer line

  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Press in the black button on the trimmer head and pull out the trimmer line by hand.
  3. When the line is fed out, return the product to the normal working position before starting. FIG. 6

ADJUSTING THE WORKING WIDTH

  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Turn the guard to the working position to prevent cutting plants by mistake.
  3. Move the lever for the working width on the guard to change the working width. There are two alternatives, 280 and 330 mm. FIG. 7

NOTE: The smaller working width increases the run time and the speed.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING! Always remove the battery from the product before cleaning and/or maintenance – the risk of serious injury.

MAINTENANCE

  • Always check before use that no parts are damaged, missing or worn. Firmly tighten all screw unions. Do not use the product if any parts are missing or damaged – risk of serious personal injury. Have the product checked and repaired before using it again.
  • Do not use solvent on plastic parts, this can damage the plastic. Remove any dirt, dust, oil or grease with a clean cloth.

IMPORTANT: Never let brake fluid, petrol, oil-based products, penetrating oils, etc. come into contact with plastic parts.

REPLACING THE LINE SPOOL

  1. Only use trimmer line recommended by the manufacturer.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Press in the lugs on the sides of the trimmer spool.
  4. Pull up the spool casing to release.
  5. Remove the empty spool.
  6. Check that the trimmer line sticks out through the slot in the new spool. The end of the trimmer line should stick out about 15 mm outside the slot.
  7. Put in the new spool with the trimmer line and slot in line with the hole in the trimmer head. Thread the trimmer line through the hole.
  8. Pull the trimmer line that sticks out from the trimmer head so that the trimmer line releases from the slot in the spool.
  9. Replace the spool casing by pressing in the lugs and pressing it down until it clicks into place.

REPLACING THE TRIMMER LINE

  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Remove the line spool from the trimmer head. Remove any remaining trimmer line from the spool.
  3. Cut about 3 metres of trimmer line.
  4. Put the trimmer line in the anchor hole on the top of the spool. Wind the trimmer line clockwise round the top of the spool (see arrows on spool). Put the trimmer line in the slot on the top flange of the spool, so that about 15 cm of trimmer line sticks out from the slot. Do not wind on too much – when the trimmer line is wound on there should be at least 6 mm of free space between the trimmer line and the outer edge of the spool.
  5. Replace the spool and spool casing as per the instructions above. FIG. 9

STORAGE

  • Remove the battery from the product before putting into storage.
  • Remove all foreign material from the product.
  • Keep this product out of the reach of children.
  • Store the product away from corrosive substances, such as salt.
  • Charge and store batteries in a cool area. Temperatures over or below normal room temperature reduce battery life.
  • Do not store discharged batteries. Allow the battery to cool and then charge it.
  • Store the battery in a dry place at no more than 27°C.
  • Batteries self-discharge, especially in high ambient temperature. For best battery life, charge the battery every or every other month, even when the product is not in use.
