Functions

PURE SINUSOIDAL VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER
The appliance produces pure sinusoidal mains voltage if 12V DC is available

  • 12V DC → 230V ~ AC (50 Hz) inverter
  • ideal for both motor driven and sensitive equipment
  • recommended for use with heating circulation pumps
  • useful companion on trips, while traveling…
  • use in vehicles, on boats, at campsites…
  • USB quick charger socket (5V/2.1A)
  • overload protection
  • overheating protection
  • surge protection
  • short circuit protection
  • battery discharge protection
  • child lock in the mains socket
  • intended for connection to and installation next to a battery

APPLICATION
The appliance largely differs from most conventional, cheaper voltage transformers. They are not capable of producing a true sinusoidal output voltage.
Therefore, they are not optimal for the operation of certain devices or may cause damage to them even.
This model produces pure sinusoidal AC voltage that features the “quality” and specifications of the voltage available from the mains sockets of homes.
This makes it ideal for the operation of any, even sensitive equipment. It is especially recommended for devices with state-of-the-art control electronics and/or electric motors, such as pumps, compressors, heaters and coolers, fans, electric shavers, drilling machines…
Pure sinusoidal inverters have a higher current consumption and therefore require a large capacity battery and more careful operation than simple models producing non-pure sinusoid wave. Continuous operation may not be guaranteed with vehicles having a smaller generator or battery, or it may be subject to the continuous charging of the battery. Consult a specialist if necessary.
For example, the current consumption of the SAI 1000TS model, when operated at 1000W rated power, is about 105A, while the current consumption of a non-pure sinusoidal inverter is about 85A. The standby current consumption is about 1.5A. The recommended battery capacity is 150Ah. You have to take care about charging accordingly.
The USB socket is suitable for quick charging, its maximum load is 5V / 2.1A.

Pure sine wave
It is recommended for all devices, especially the sensitive ones:

  • LED TV
  • brushless motors
  • washing machines
  • sewing machines
  • laser printers
  • copiers
  • thyristor driven and SCR controlled products
  • fluorescent light sources with electronic ballast
  • some digital watches
  • microprocessor controlled equipment
  • some chargers for hand tools and laptops
  • inverter equipment
  • control electronics…

CHECKING THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE
The signal shape of the supply voltage produced by the inverter is perfect sine wave. You can obtain accurate measurement results with any standard Voltmeter.

Modified sine wave
It is not ideal for all devices; usually usable:

  • simple devices
  • less sensitive audio devices
  • old CRT televisions
  • carbon brush motors
  • digital watches, battery chargers depending on the model
  • large motors can consume up to 30% more energy
  • properly functioning devices may become hotter and their service life may shorten
  • some audio devices and fans may work noisier

CHECKING THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE
The signal shape of the supply voltage produced by the inverter is modified sine wave. You can obtain accurate measurement results using a TRUE RMS Voltmeter only. Any other instrument type can measure up to 20-30 Volts less than the actual value.

COMMISSIONING

  1. Mount the inverter on a flat, stable surface in a ventilated area. Do not expose it to the heat of sunlight or other heat sources. Do not operate it in the vicinity of flammable gases or materials.
  2. Unscrew and remove the plastic screws of the red and black connectors on the back of the appliance, then use them to secure the ends of the supplied cables. Tighten the screws firmly by hand to achieve perfect contacts. Always connect a cable of the same colour as the connector.
  3. Fasten the ring connectors on the other end of the cables to the positive and negative terminals of the battery. In some cases, you may need to buy suitable battery connectors. To ensure proper contact, the connection must be tight. If you find two red and two black connection cables in the inverter box, they must be connected in parallel to the inverter and the battery observing the colours. That is, you need to use all four connection cables simultaneously (e.g., SAI 500TS). If the package contains only one red and one black connection cable, it is safe to use these only.
  4. Connect the mains driven appliance (turned off) you want to operate to the socket with contact protection on the front panel. Be careful not to exceed the permitted rated power.
  5. Start the engine of the vehicle to make its generator charge the battery.
  6. Switch on the inverter using the toggle switch on the front panel: ON.
  7. Turn on the mains driven device you want to operate when the green LED is on. If you connect multiple devices, turn them on one by one.
  8. After use, switch off the mains driven device first and only then the inverter (OFF position). Remove the connecting cables.

Always observe the indicated polarity and make safe and proper contacts. Use the appliance with the supplied connection cables only. It is forbidden to modify or extend them. Place the battery the closest possible to the inverter and connect them with the shortest possible cables. Toxic and flammable gases may escape from the battery, therefore always use them in a properly ventilated area.
EXTENSION OF CABLES
The longer or thinner the cable is the higher resistance it has. Due to the power loss resulting from the increasing voltage drop associated with the increasing resistance, it is forbidden to extend the 12 V connection cable. Use a 3×1.5mm2 extension cord instead to supply mains voltage from the inverter to a more distant device you want to operate.

PROTECTION CIRCUITS
The device is equipped with multiple means of protection: against overload, overheating, surge, short circuit and battery discharge.
When the protection activates, the output voltage is cut off. Then you should immediately

  1. Switch off the operated device.
  2. Switch off the inverter.
  3. Unplug the connectors.
  4. Check the power requirements of the mains driven equipment you want to operate and proper connections.
  5. Check the battery power status.
  6. Check the inverter for overheating.
  7. After troubleshooting, you can use the equipment again. Consult a specialist if necessary.

In the event of a short circuit or connection with reversed polarity, the internal fuse will interrupt the circuit. In this case, contact a specialist who will install a fuse of the same type and rating as the original. The fuse is not a user replaceable part.
The inverter can be operated from voltages between approx. 11V and 15.5V. When the voltage is lower or higher, an audible signal turns on, then the red LED lights up and the output power is cut off. When the voltage level returns to normal, the output becomes active again. If the protection is triggered due to an overload, the appliance must be switched off manually as well using the toggle switch on the front panel, and then restarted. Of course, the cause of the fault must be remedied before restarting.
In addition to the specified voltage range, sufficient amount of current must be provided from a charged battery of good condition. The approximate value of the required input current can be obtained by dividing the power input of the device you want to operate by 10. For example: 100W/10=10A.
When the battery is exhausted, both the operated device and the inverter must be switched off. Start the vehicle engine or connect a battery charger to charge the battery. The frequency of charging, or whether it is needed continuously depends on the current conditions of use. These include the capacity of the battery, the type of the inverter and the consumption of the equipment operated from it.

Notes:
The power consumption of many household appliances is less than the inverter output, still the overload protection may be triggered when they are turned on. It can supply resistive loads and devices with switched mode power supply the easiest. These represent linear and even loads. These include, for example, conventional cooking plates, kettles, LCD TVs and other similar appliances.
Some audio-video devices and power hand tools may represent higher loads. For example, an asynchronous motor, compressor, CRT television, water pump, pump, microwave oven… When these are switched on, they draw much more than their rated current for a short time. They may have 2 to 6 times higher power requirement. You may need to select the inverter of suitably power by testing. Oversizing the inverter multiple times is especially needed for motor driven devices.
The voltage transformer switches off automatically in the event of an overload. The cooling fan on the back operates depending on the load and temperature. Always allow the hot air to escape freely.

  • The green LED indicates that the appliance is powered and ready for use.
  • The red LED warns that the protection has tripped. Find the cause of the fault; for example, the battery voltage is too high or too low, the inverter output is overloaded, or a short circuit has occurred.
  • At about 10.7V input voltage, intermittent beeping warns you that the battery will be exhausted soon.
  • If the voltage continues to drop, a different audio signal will warn you at about 10.0V that the battery is exhausted. At the same time, the output will be cut off.
  • If the voltage is too high, this will be indicated by an audible signal when about 15.5V is reached. The output will turn off.
  • If the output is disabled due to decreased or increased input voltage, it will be active when the input voltage reaches the appropriate level again.
  • If the protection has disabled operation due to overload, the appliance will not work again, unless switched off and back on manually.

PROTECTIVE EARTHING
Before using the inverter, you have to provide protective earthing, similarly to normal households.
Use in a fixed place:
The special screw on the side of the appliance must be earthed, in such way that it must be connected to a metal rod with proper contact that is inserted into the ground at least 1.2 m deep.
Use in a vehicle:
The ground must be connected to the negative pole (body) of the vehicle. (Provided that the vehicle is negative grounded.) For positive grounded vehicles, connect the positive (red) pole. If the operated mains driven device is located outside the vehicle, then use the aforementioned earthing rod.
If operated in a boat, connect the ground to the earth wire of the electrical circuits (e.g., engine) in the boat.
