IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE USE AND RETAIN IT FOR LATER REFERENCE!

WARNINGS

  1. Before using the product for the first time, please read the instructions for use below and retain them for later reference. The original instructions were written in the Hungarian language.
  2. This appliance may only be used by persons with impaired physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking in experience or knowledge, as well as children from the age of 8, if they are under supervision or have been given instruction concerning use of the appliance and they have understood the hazards associated with use. Children should not be allowed to play with the unit. Children may only clean or perform user maintenance on the appliance under supervision. After unpacking the unit, confirm that it has not been damaged during transit. Keep the packaging away from children if it contains plastic bags or other potentially hazardous components.
  3. Before starting to use the player, read these instructions carefully, then keep them in an accessible place for future reference.
  4. Seek professional assistance if necessary to prevent damaging the appliance or motor vehicle.
  5. Depending on the compressed files, the MP3 compression program used, and the quality of the USB/SD memory, anomalies may occur during playback, which are not due to the appliance malfunctioning.
  6. The playback of copy righted DRM files is not guaranteed.
  7. It is also possible to connect MP3/MP4 players using a USB cable but avoid connecting external hard drives this way.
  8. Do not store any additional files on the USB/SD device other than playable files, because they can slow down or interfere playback.
  9. Do not connect phones, navigation… to the USB socket for charging purposes.
  10. Do not store data storage in the vehicle if it is exposed to freezing or extremely high temperatures.
  11. While underway, do not do anything that distracts your attention from driving. Handling the player while driving can result in accidents.
  12. Do not listen to the player too loud. Set a volume that allows you to hear external sounds while driving. Extreme volumes can also cause permanent damage to your ears.
  13. Do not disassemble or remake the player, as that can cause fire, accidents, or electric shock. Incorrect use or installation renders the warranty void.
  14. Only for use in cars with a 12 V battery and a negative ground. Using the player for any other purpose can result in electric shock, damage, or fire. The player was designed exclusively for use in vehicles.
  15. Always use melting fuses with the proper values. When replacing a fuse, make sure that the new fuse has the same nominal value as the one you are replacing. Using a different fuse can cause fire or damage. (10 A)
  16. Do not block the player’s cooling vents, as that can cause its circuits to overheat, resulting in fire. Install the player properly to ensure adequate ventilation. The air vents around the edge must be left free.
  17. Take care of correct connection. Improper wiring may result in fire or other malfunction.
  18. Prior to wiring/installation, be sure to remove the car battery’s negative terminal connection. This will prevent any electric shock, short circuit or malfunction.
  19. While installing the player never cut through cables or damage their insulation. Doing so can result in short circuit and fire.
  20. Before drilling holes or inserting screws into your vehicle’s body make sure you do not damage tubes or electric wires on the other side of the cover.
  21. Do not connect to any electric systems of your vehicle that operate steering, brakes, or any other safety function. Doing so can result in loss of control over the vehicle, and can cause fire.
  22. Do not install the player or its accessories in a location where they can prevent you from controlling the vehicle safely, e.g., nearby the steering-wheel and the gear shift.
  23. Make sure that wires do not coil around neighboring objects. Arrange cables and wires in a way that does not hinder you in driving. Wires that interfere with your movement or hang over the gear shift, the brake etc. can be extremely dangerous. (e.g. The external media player’s cable connected to the AUX or the USB socket.)
  24. In case of any malfunction, turn of the player immediately, and consult your distributor. Many malfunctions are very easy to detect (e.g., no sound, bad smell, smoke, an external object inside the product etc.).
  25. Make sure that no external objects get into the USB socket or the memory card slot, as these can cause fatal damage.
  26. Protect it from dust, damp, liquids, heat, moisture, frost and impact, as well as direct heat or sunlight.
  27. When leading the connection cables make sure that their insulation does not get damaged by any sharp metal objects nearby.
  28. Do not connect any cables when the device is working. Never turn on the system with the volume at the maximum level. Cracking or other noise impact occurring that time can immediately damage the speakers irreparably.
  29. The warranty is not applicable to damage caused by irresponsible or improper installation or use.
  30. A Somogyi Elektronic Kft. certifies that this radio equipment conforms to directive No. 2014/53/EU. Full text of EU Declaration of Conformity is available on the following address: [email protected]

PRECAUTIONS

CLEANING

Use a soft, dry cloth and brush for regular cleaning. Remove heavy dirt by moistening with water. Be careful not to scratch the display, never wipe it with a dry or rough cloth. Do not use cleaning agents. Do not let liquids get inside the unit or on its connectors.

TEMPERATURE

Before switching on the unit, make sure that the temperature of the passenger compartment is between 0oC and +40oC, as trouble-free operation cannot be guaranteed outside this range. Extreme weather conditions can damage the unit.

PLACEMENT, INSTALLATION

When installing the unit, make sure that it will not be exposed to the following:
– direct sunlight or heat (e.g. from the heating system) – moisture, high humidity – significant amount of dust – strong vibration

Warning! The manufacturer does assume liability for the loss or damage of data, etc. even if such loss of data etc. occurs while using this product. You are recommended to back up the data, tracks on the connected medium to your personal computer prior to the use of the unit.

INSTALLATION (Have a specialist install the unit!)
  • Depending on the design of your vehicle, you may need to purchase an additional metal strap or other fastener. The installation method may vary for different car models.
  • Connect the cables of the unit as specified. Check the suitability of the connectors in your vehicle beforehand by following the wiring instructions in this description. Make sure that all connections are correct and free of short circuits. Route the speaker cables carefully.
  • Do not connect any speaker cable to the negative terminal / earthing point of your vehicle or the power supply (e.g. to the black power cord or a metal part of the vehicle).
  • To protect your audio system from interference:
    – Position the unit and route the cables at a distance of at least 10 cm from the instrument panel wiring harness of the car.
    – Keep the battery power cables as far away as possible from all other cables.
    – Securely connect the earthing/ground cable to a clean metal surface on the car body free of paint, dirt or grease.
    – If a noise canceler is connected, keep it as far away from the unit as possible.

CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS

In certain cases, increasing the volume may not increase the bass proportionally. This depends on the number and positioning of the speakers operated, and it may also occur that the cables of a speaker in the vehicle is connected with the correct polarity.

  1. When using two front speakers:
    ● Change the +/- polarity of either of the right or left speaker (the two poles of the cable connecting to one of the speakers should be reversed, at any point between the radio and the speaker).

  2. When using four speakers:
    ● A., If both the two front and two rear speakers are built into the door (or installed in a different but isolated manner, using a „sound box”), you need to change the polarity of one of the front two and rear two speakers each.
    ● B., If the front two speakers are built into the door but the rear two in the rear tray, only the polarity of one of the two front speakers needs to be changed. The rear speaker cables should be left unchanged.

To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.

Resetting the unit

After any event where the power supply is interrupted or a malfunction of the unit occurs, it is necessary to clear the microprocessor data. To do so, press the RST (12) (RESET) button on the front panel with a thin, pointed object for 2 seconds. The unit will switch off and return to its factory default setting.
You need to perform this after installation, before switching on the unit for the first time, and after any battery replacement in your vehicle.

Switch on/off

If connected properly, the current time is shown on the display when the unit is switched off. To turn on the unit, briefly press the POWER (1) button.
Press it again to switch off the unit, and the current time will be displayed.

  • If BT connection is active, the unit will also switch on when you have an incoming call.
  • As the start-up of the vehicle engine may cause voltage surges, do not switch on the unit before starting the engine. Switch off the unit before stopping the engine.

Use the rotary knob (7) to set the desired volume. Keep briefly pressing the rotary knob until you see the indication of the volume, tone or other desired function appear on the display. Then briefly turn the knob to change the selected setting.

  • Available sound and other settings: V: volume / BS: bass tone / TR: treble tone / BL: right/left channel balance / FD: front/rear channel volume / LD: bass boost on/off (ON-OFF) / EQ: on/off and style selection (EQ OFF-FLAT-ROCK-POP-CLASS-JAZZ-EQ OFF…) / ST: stereo-mono reception / DX/LOC: remote or local reception (the last two FM reception settings are available in radio mode only)
  • Applying the three tone control options (treble/bass + EQ + loudness) together may deteriorate the sound quality. It is not recommended to activate more than one control at a time.
  • When listening to the unit at higher volumes, do not significantly boost bass or treble, as this may result in distortion.
LOUDNESS – Physiological tone control

The human ear detects less low and high frequencies at low volumes. By activating the LOUDNESS function (LD in the menu), you can improve this effect at low volumes by using the volume dependent automatic tone control. The lower the volume, the more bass and treble boost is applied. It is recommended to turn this off at high volumes, as it may cause distortion.

  • For improved sound quality, you are recommended to select the EQ OFF setting and set the equalizer controls to “0” before using this function.
  • The higher the volume, the less you will hear the effect of the automatic tone control.
Setting the current time and muting the speakers

Turn on the unit by pressing the POWER (1) button, then press and hold the CLK/MUTE (2) button for 2 seconds. The clock appears on the display. Before it disappears, press and hold the CLK//MUTE button again and the clock display will start flashing. Use the rotary knob to set the hours, then press CLK/MUTE to finalise your setting and proceed to the minutes. Use the rotary knob to set the minutes while they keep flashing on the display. Finally, wait 5 seconds to keep your settings automatically and exit.

  • If you wait idle for more than a few seconds during setup, the unit will exit the current menu.
  • When the unit is switched off, the current time is shown on the display.
  • While the unit is switched on, press and hold the CLK/MUTE button for 2 seconds to shortly display the current time.
  • If you briefly press the CLK/MUTE button, the speakers will be muted and the message MUTE will flash on the display. Press it again briefly or turn the volume control to turn the sound back on.
Selecting functions and the signal source

Briefly press the MOD/SOUND (3) button to switch modes: FM radio – playback from USB or SD card – BT connection – AUX IN – FM radio…

  • Unavailable signal sources cannot be activated. For example, if no USB or SD storage with playable MP3/WMA files is connected.

  • If external devices are connected to both the USB and SD sockets at the same time, you can use the said button to select USB or SD as the source.
Basically, you are recommended to use an SD card, as it is smaller and more secure to insert.

  • When you turn on the unit, the source used last is active, provided that you have not removed the device.

USING THE RADIO

After switching on, you can hear the radio if it is the source you listened to last, or you have removed the last source in the meantime. If necessary, use the MODE/HANG button on the front panel to select the radio function.

  • ST: stereo/mono reception; set it to mono if the reception is noisy
  • DX/LOC: remote or local reception; set it to the more sensitive DX mode if the reception is poor, but use LOC mode when you listen to a nearby local station
  • These two setting options are available only when you listen to the radio, by pressing the rotary knob in menu mode.

Selection of stored radio stations

Briefly press the BND/AMS/ANSW (4) button to select the desired FM band (F1-F2-F3), then select the desired program using number buttons 1… 6.
The display shows the following information: F1… F3/P1… P6, where F1…F3 represent the three available FM bands, and P1… P6 are the numbers
of 6 radio programs you can store for each band. You can store a total of 18 FM radio stations in the memory.

Automatic tuning and storage

Press and hold the RST button for 2 seconds using a paper clip to return to the factory settings. Then press and hold the BND/AMS/ANSW button for 2 seconds to automatically search for and store radio stations available at the point of use. You can track the tuning and storage process on the display.
All available frequencies are checked. The better the reception, the more programs the unit will find. After scanning the entire band, the unit briefly displays all stations stored.

  • When tuning is complete, you can listen to a few seconds of the program of each radio station automatically. You can switch off the tuning and the demo function by pressing the BND/AMS/ANSW button again.
  • Keep in mind that the unit may skip stations with weak signal, and the stations may not be stored in the order you specify. If strong, interference may also be detected as a program.
  • Your former setting to the more sensitive remote or the local mode in the menu may affect the effectiveness of the automatic scanning function.
  • Choose manual tuning and storage to make the setting suit your needs.

Manual tuning, fine tuning and storage of radio stations

If you know the exact frequency of the program you want to listen to, or want to fine tune a previously tuned radio station, we recommend using manual tuning. Select one of the FM bands F1-F2-F3 by briefly pressing the BND/AMS/ANSW button on the front panel. (Recommended setting: F1)
Briefly press the back or next (5) button and the unit will automatically search for the nearest radio station. You can repeat this multiple times.
To perform fine tuning, press and hold the back or next (5) button until the text MANU (manual fine tuning) appears on the display. Then, you can step the frequency by immediately starting to press the back or next button briefly. After tuning in the desired radio station, press and hold one of the buttons 1…6 to store the station. The display briefly shows the current FM band (F1-F2-F3) and the memory location used for storage (P1… P6). You can choose an already stored program by using the number buttons. The display will show the current FM band and the storage location of the program. For example, F2-P6 means program 6 selected in band FM2.

  • If you do not press any button for 4 seconds in manual fine tuning mode, the radio will return to automatic tuning after displaying AUTO, which is the default setting. Then you can use the stepping buttons to scan for the next radio station automatically, and the unit stops.
  • You can store a total of 18 FM radio stations in the memory in bands FM1-FM2-FM3. In each case, you can store 6 stations. If you selected storage location 4 in band FM2 when storing the station, you can recall it by selecting band FM2 first (BND/AMS/ANSW) and then pressing the number button 4.
  • If a memory location is already occupied, the program stored in it will be deleted and overwritten by the new station frequency.
  • If you use the unit further away from the location of tuning – e.g. when traveling –, you may need to scan for the same radio station on a different frequency again. Programs may be broadcast on different frequencies in different geographical areas.
USING THE WIRELESS BT FUNCTIONS

The unit can be paired with other equipment communicating according to the BT protocol. After pairing, you can use your vehicle’s audio system to listen to music played on your mobile phone, tablet, notebook or other similar device. When you have a phone call, you can answer it, make it hands-free or end it without touching your phone. The car radio has a built-in microphone for telephone conversations. Try to speak towards it (upper right corner) so that the other party can hear you better. When making a phone call, make sure that the windows are closed and the ventilation system is turned off or down, as driving and air conditioning noise may significantly affect the understanding of your speech by the other party.

CONNECTIVITY: Select BT mode with the MOD/SOUND (3) button. The display shows the abbreviation BT. The mobile device to be paired should locate nearby BT devices, including this car radio, as described in its operating manual. Connect the two devices. Then you can use the speakers of the car to listen to a phone conversation or the music played from your phone.
If successfully connected, the BT ON message appears in place of BT. Now, the music played on your phone is ready for wireless reception. Adjust the volume on your phone too.

  • If you hold down the rotary knob for two seconds, and then start turning it, you can adjust the volume of the BT connection as desired. Set it, so that you can clearly hear your phone conversation through the speakers.

TALKING: You can access the following extra functions: the radio that is switched off, but has been already paired, turns on and switches to BT mode when you have an incoming call. For example, if you have been listening to the radio, it will automatically switch to BT mode. The display shows the calling party’s number after the CALL message, while the ringtone is heard through the car speakers. Using the controls of the car radio, you can reject a call (MOD/VOICE (3)), answer it (BND/AMS/ANSW (4)), end it (MOD/VOICE (3)), or you can start a phone call to the last calling number stored. For the latter, briefly press the BND/AMS/ANSW button (4). The phone will dial the number, unless it is blocked by a screen lock or other setting. During the call, the radio measures the talk time.
NOTICE! If you hold down the BND/AMS/ANSW button for 2 seconds in BT mode, the messages BT ON and BT OFF indicate if the wireless connection is or off. If you press BND / AMS / ANSW during a call, the SOC message will be read briefly and the hands-free mode of the phone will be turned off. This allows you to have a private conversation with the passengers, then if it is pressed again – after another brief SOC message – the phone will be hands-free again.

  • Starting a call to the last number: if you have a dual SIM enabled phone, you may need to confirm the call on the phone too, depending your phone settings. You can avoid this via appropriate (model dependent) settings on your phone.

LISTENING TO   MUSIC: Start playback with your phone’s music player, and you can listen to the music through the car speakers. The message A2DP on the display indicates wireless music playback mode. If you receive a phone call, you can answer it with the BND/AMS/ANSW button or reject it with the MOD/VOLUME button of the radio, while music playback is paused.

  • The music player application started on your phone can usually be remotely controlled via the play and stepping buttons of the radio.
  • One radio can be paired with one BT device at a time. The actual range depends on the other device and the environmental conditions (app. 5m).
  • The functions, volume and sound quality available through the BT connection may be subject to the settings and features of the connected mobile phone.
  • Manufacturer or third party enhancements and software updates may cause changes in functionality.
PLAYBACK – from USB/SD storage

If you want to listen to music from a USB/SD storage instead of the radio, connect the external storage device. The unit will detect it and playback will start automatically. The display briefly shows USB or SD, then “F” (Folder) and “T” (Track), the current folder and the number of the song. During playback, you can see the time elapsed from the current track. If you stop playback with the 1/PLAY/PAUSE (13) button, the message PAUSE will be displayed. Available music player features:

(13) : play or pause
(5) : press briefly the buttons to play the previous or next track. Pressing and holding the button during playback of a song will start a fast scanning while the speakers will be muted.
(17) -10/D-: move 10 tracks back / move up in the folder structure
(18) +10/D+: move 10 tracks forward / move forward in the folder structure
(14) INTRO: song demo; playback of 10 seconds from the beginning of each song; you can turn it off by pressing the button again
(15) REPEAT: repeat one song (ONE), one folder (FOLDER) or all songs (ALL)
(16) RANDOM: random playback; press again to turn it off

  • The recommended file system for the memory is FAT32. Do not use an NTFS formatted memory card.
  • If the product gives no sound or does not recognise the USB/SD memory, remove and reinsert the memory unit. If this does not work, try selecting the source with the MOD button. If necessary, switch off the unit and back on, and if this does not help, press the RESET button on the front panel.
  • If the unit does not recognise all or part of the files copied to the inserted source, proceed as described in the previous section, or you can try inserting the USB/SD device into the unit already turned on; then the unit re scans and updates the entire content.
  • Before removing the external memory unit, always switch to a source different from the USB/SD memory or turn off the unit. Otherwise, the data may be corrupted.
  • Do not remove the connected external unit during playback!
  • When the memory device is inserted, playback starts from the first song. If you have already listened to and have not removed the media, playback will resume from the track selected last, even if you have turned off the power in the meantime.
  • The USB or SD device can only be inserted in one way. If it stops, turn it over and try again; do not force it.
  • Make sure that the device protruding from the unit does not prevent safe driving, and you will not push or break it. You are recommended to use an SD card as it is safer.
  • If you leave the media in the vehicle when the temperature is extremely hot or cold, it may get corrupted.
  • Abnormal operation may be caused by the individual characteristics of the storage device; this is not a sign of product malfunction.
AUX IN – Stereo audio input

Using a 3.5mm stereo jack, you can directly connect any external device with headphones or audio output to the AUX socket on the front panel. You can listen to this portable device in good quality through the speakers of the car radio by selecting the AUX IN mode with the MOD/VOLUME button. You can use the cable to connect e.g. a mobile phone, multimedia player, CD/DVD player, navigation system…

  • To achieve good sound quality, it is important to properly adjust the volume and tone on the playback device.
  • You may need to purchase an external adapter to connect products that do not have a 3.5mm audio output jack.
  • For more information, see the user guide of the device you want to connect.

Connecting an external amplifier and active subwoofer

The 4xRCA stereo audio output is located on the back of the unit. The white and red RCA sockets are the outputs of the left and right audio channels.
They enable you to connect an external amplifier or active subwoofer with low level input (LINE IN). Thereby, you can further enhance the volume and sound quality. White: left channel, red: right channel (LF: front left, RF: front right, LR: rear left, RR: rear right audio channels)

Remote controller functions

To activate the remote controller, pull the insulation stripe protruding from the battery compartment, if any. If you experience insecure operation or reduced range later, replace the batteries: CR 2025; 3V button cell.

  • When using the remote controller, point it towards the display of the unit and keep a distance of 2 metres from the unit.

  • To replace the battery, turn the remote controller so that its buttons face down, then pull out the battery tray with the battery. Make sure the positive pole of the inserted battery is facing up. Follow the instructions on the back of the remote controller.
