Important Safety Information

Warning
Before installing and using the inverter, read the following safety information carefully.

General safety precautions

  • Do not expose the inverter to rain, snow, spray or dust. To reduce risk of hazard, do not cover or obstruct the ventilation openings. Do not install the inverter in a zero
    clearance compartment, overheating may result.

  • Avoid a risk of fire and electric shock. Make sure that the existing wiring is in good electrical condition and that the wire is not undersized. Do not operate the inverter with
    damaged or substandard wiring.

  • This equipment contains components that can produce arcs or sparks. To prevent fire or explosion, do not install in compartments containing batteries or flammable
materials or in locations with ignition-protected equipment. This includes any space containing gasoline-powered machinery, fuel tanks, or joints, fittings, or other connections between components of the fuel system.

  • Do not wire other AC power sources to this inverter. Damage may occur even when the inverter is off.

Precautions when working with batteries

  • If battery acid contacts skin or clothing, wash immediately with soap and water. If acid enters eye, immediately flood eye with running cold water for at least 20 minutes and get medical attention immediately.
  • Never smoke or allow a spark or flame in vicinity of battery or engine.
  • Do not drop a metal tool on the battery. The resulting sparks or short circuits on the battery or other electrical parts may cause an explosion.
  • Remove personal metal items such as rings, bracelets, necklaces, and watches when working with a lead-acid battery. A lead-acid battery produces a short circuit current high enough to weld a ring or the like to metal, causing severe burn.

Instructions

Input Panel

  1. Chassis ground
Chassis ground is connected to the inverter AC outlet ground.

  2. Remote control port
Some Phocos solar charge controllers are designed to shut off the inverter when the controller senses Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD). The controller must be connected to the inverter remote control port, and the inverter main switch must be set to remote mode. A modular 6p4c type connector (included in the scope of delivery of the charge controller) is available with compatible Phocos controllers (CXNsolid and CMLsolid) to control any inverter of the Phocos PSW series, by the LVD function of the charge controller. The inverter will not be switched off at load over current.

  3. Cooling fan
Do not obstruct cooling fan. Allow at least 5cm for airflow.

  4. Input battery connectors
    Red (+) and Black )

Output Panel

  1. Main Switch
    Off, On, and Remote settings

  2. USB output port
    Rated for 5V, 2.1 A

  3. Output outlets
    Universal outlet is standard.

  4. Load level indicator
Off is very low AC power operation. Green is low to medium AC power operation. Orange is medium to high AC power operation. Red is very high AC power operation and overload shutdown.

  5. Status indicator
Green shows inverter is powered on. Red means a failure or the inverter is operating a protection feature. Alternating green and red means the inverter is in power save mode.

  6. Dip switch setting
Adjust settings for frequency and power save mode.

DIP Switches

DIP Switch Setting
54 0: 50 Hz
53 O:OFF
52 O:OFF
51 O:OFF

Note: DIP switches must be adjusted while inverter main switch is OFF.

Power Save Mode

When a power saving mode is selected, the inverter will use less power when no load is present. The status LED will alternate between green and red when no load is present. Power saving mode causes a brief delay to turn loads on. Power save mode is compatible with loads that draw power continually like a television. Power save mode may not be compatible with loads that draw power intermittently like a power tool.

LED Indicators

Main Switch

The main switch must be OFF while inverter is installed. The main switch must be Remote before using a remote unit. Ensure the remote control contact is off while the inverter is installed.

AC Output Outlet
Standard models have a universal outlet. Other outlets are available upon request with minimum order quantity restrictions.

DC Input Terminals

Connect to 12 V/24 V/48 V battery.(+) is positive,(-) is negative. Reverse polarity connection will blow internal fuses and may damage inverter permanently

Model DC input voltage
Minimum Maximum
12 V 10.5 V
24V 21 V
48V 42V

Note: Low battery alarm will continue until voltage falls below 1 0V or until battery is recharged above the restart voltage

Protection Features

Model DC input voltage (VDC) Over temperature protection
Over voltage Under voltage Shutdown
Shutdown Warning Alarm Shutdown with Alarm
12 V 16 V 11 V
24V 32 V 22 V
48V 64V 44V

The low battery warning alarm is a slow beeping sound. It is on for 1 second and off for 1 second. The low battery shutdown alarm is a fast beeping sound. It is on for 0.5 seconds and off for 0.5 seconds.

Making DC Wiring Connections

Your cable should be as short as possible (ideally use factory cables) and large enough to handle the required current in accordance with the electrical codes or the application. If cables are not an adequate gauge (too narrow) or too long, it will decrease the inverter performance such as poor surge capability, frequent low input voltage warnings, and shutdowns. UVP warning will occur due to DC voltage drop across the cables from the inverter to the batteries. The longer or narrower the cables, the greater the voltage drop. Increasing your DC cable size will help improve the situation.
Choose a location that is dry, ventilated, and safe from flammable gases or liquids

Warning
The installation of a fuse must be on the positive DC cable. Failure to place a fuse on”+” cables running between the inverter and battery may cause damage to the inverter and will void warranty.

Other equipment connected to the battery may require separate fuses. Follow the manufacturer instructions.

Wiring Instructions

Follow this procedure to connect the battery cables to the DC input terminals of the inverter.

  1. Adjust inverter main switch to OFF, and change DIP switches to desired
  2. Connect negative cable to inverter negative DC terminal and then to negative battery terminal.
  3. Connect positive cable to inverter positive DC terminal and then to positive battery terminal. This cable must contain a
  4. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.

Warning
The cable installation may cause a spark. To avoid risk of explosion or fire, do not make cable connections in the presence of flammable gases

Inverter Operation

To operate the power inverter, turn the main switch ON. The power inverter is now ready to deliver AC power to your loads. If there are several loads in use, turn them on separately after the inverter has been “ON” in order to prevent the OVP caused by the surge power. Set the power switch to the “ON” position. The buzzer will send out “Beep” sounds at startup and the inverter will do self-diagnosis. The power status LED indicators will also appear. Finally the buzzer will sound another “Beep”, the power status LED indicators will turn to “green”, and the inverter will start working successfully. Set the power switch to the OFF position. The inverter will stop, and all the lights will go off. Set power inverter switch to the ON position and turn the test load on. The inverter should supply power to the load. If you plan to accurately measure the true output r.m.s. voltage of the inverter, a high quality voltage meter must be used.

Troubleshooting

Warning
Do not open or disassemble the inverter. Attempting to service the unit yourself may result in a risk of electrical shock or fire.
