WHEN INSTALLING OR USING THIS TRACK SYSTEM, BASIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD
ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED, INCLUDING:
- READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
- DO NOT INSTALL THIS TRACK IN DAMP OR WET LOCATIONS.
- DO NOT INSTALL ANY PART OF THE TRACK SYSTEM LESS THAN 5 FEET ABOVE THE FLOOR.
- DO NOT INSTALL ANY LUMINAIRE ASSEMBLY CLOSER THAN 6 INCHES FROM ANY CURTAIN, OR SIMILAR COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL.
- DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER BEFORE ADDING TO OR CHANGING THE CONFIGURATION OF THE TRACK.
- DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ENERGIZE ANYTHING OTHER THAN LIGHTING TRACK LUMINAIRES ON THE TRACK. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE AND ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONNECT POWER TOOLS, EXTENSION CORDS, APPLIANCES, AND THE LIKE TO THE TRACK.
Field Cutting Instructions
- Slide the power track out of the extrusion.
- When cutting the extrusion in field, ensure that the extrusion is sitting perpendicular to the cutting surface.
- Slide the power track back into the extrusion
- Trim the power track with hand shears to fit the length of the extrusion.
Luminii recommends not to exceed 24ft or 3 track joiners per power feed to minimize system voltage drop and avoid output variation across the run. Long runs of track can be accomplished using multiple power feeds. See page 8 for details on converting a joiner to a power feed using accessory TJ-1-72.
Mounting Bracket Installation – MB-STR
- Determine the location of where the fixture(s) will be installed. Mounting brackets should be spaced 4” from each end of the fixture(s) and also every 24” in between to evenly distribute weight.
- Slide the square nuts through the slot on the backside of the recessed channel. Please note, make sure to not install any end caps (powered or blank) before these square nuts are slotted through the back of the extrusion.
- Bring down the recessed spring brackets to the backside of the recessed channel and line the holes up with the square nuts from the previous step. Please make sure the spring brackets alternate in direction.
- Tighten the 10-32 x 1/4” hex head screws through the recessed spring brackets and into the square nuts, securing the recessed spring brackets to the backside of the recessed track housing.
Blank Endcap Installation – EC-STR-H3-XX
- Slide on the Endcap
- Tighten the set screw.
Installation Using Power Feed Endcap – PF-STR-XX
- It is recommended to perform these steps before the track housing is installed on the ceiling. Be sure to mount the spring brackets to the back of the housing before this section.
- Start by removing the magnetic finish plate on the Power Feed Endcap. Then loosen the cover plate screws. Remove cover plate after the screws are loosened. Flip up the power feed connector to get it out of the way for now.
- Slide the power feed end cap onto the housing then tighten the two set screws on the back of the track housing to secure the power feed end cap to the track housing.
- Flip down and snap in the power feed connector to the power track housing. Perform a continuity check between the track conductors and the power feed connector wires to ensure the connector is seated properly in the track.
- Re-attach the cover plate and tighten its screws to secure it to the power feed end cap.
- Once the cover plate is secure, attach the magnetic finish plate to it.
Installation Using Power Feed Endcap – PF-STR-XX (continued)
- Cutout a slot in the ceiling according to the dimensions given in the image above. Please note, the length of the slot cutout in the ceiling should be 0.1” longer than your track length when all pieces (power feed end caps, joiners, track housing) are attached.
- Route power feed cable through the cutout slot in the mounting surface. Connect the power feed wires to the remote power supply. For more information, please refer to the power supply wiring instructions.
- Bend the adjustable springs to a straight position, followed by pushing the Track Housing completely inside the cutout slot. The springs will release to secure the Track Housing to the mounting surface. It is easier to insert the fixture at an angle into the drywall.
Installation of Joiners
- Straight Joiner
- Use the same installation method for the L-joiner as the straight power feed joiner
- Use the same installation method for the T-joiner as the straight power feed joiner
- Use the same installation method for the X-joiner as the straight power feed joiner
Installation of Joiners (continued)
-
Remove the magnetic finish plate on the Power Feed Joiner. Remove cover plate after the screws are loosened. Remove power feed connector to gain access to two set screws shown in the next step.
-
Loosen the now exposed set screws, then remove the coupling plates.
-
Now slide the coupling plates to the backside of the track housing, then secure it to the housing by tightening the set screws
-
Install the 1st track section per Step #2.6-2.8.
-
Slide the joiner end cap over the coupling plate and secure by tightening the set screw on the power track joiner.
Installation of Joiners (continued) -
Install the next power track through the cut out slot and slide it to the previously installed power joiner and secure it using the set screw on the power joiner end cap.
-
Snap in the power feed connector to either end of the power track housing. Perform a continuity check between the track conductors to ensure the connector is seated properly in the track. If you have power feeds on each end, skip this step to provide electrical isolation.
-
Re-attach the cover plate and tighten its screws to secure it to the power feed joiner.
-
Once the cover plate is secure, attach the magnetic finish plate to it.
Converting a Joiner to a Power Feed
For long continuous runs and closed patterns (i.e. rectangle), power feeds may need to be added to the Joiners. The following steps describe how to convert a standard Joiner to a Power Feed Joiner using TJ-1-72.
- Open joiner and discard the electrical jumper.
- Insert TJ-1-72 into the bushing just installed.
- Replace the hole plug with the provided bushing.
- Repeat steps 3.2 – 3.9 from the “Installation of Joiners” Section to attach the converted joiner to the track housing. Once the converted power feed joiner is installed to both sides of the track housing, snap in TJ-1-72 into the desired section of track that you want powered.
Module and Cover Installation
-
Carefully align then snap the ambient or directional module fixture into the surface recessed track housing. When doing this installation, it is easier to install each fixture at an angle like in the image above. Be careful to ensure that the module has full connection to the track and isn’t sitting at an odd angle (see picture to the left).
-
Track covers may be cut to length in the field and installed between modules to create a closed aesthetic look.
-
To remove the directional or ambient modules from the track housing, use the provided plastic tool to pry out the modules from the ends. It is easier to remove one end at a time as in the image shown.
Note: Total wattage of installed modules must not exceed 96W, 4A Maximum per power feed.
Module and Cover Installation (continued) -
The directional modules can be aimed+/-30° by loosening the rotation lockingscrews and setting to the desired angle. Retighten the rotation locking screws before inserting the directional module into the track housing to lock in the desired angle.
-
Optional lens accessories simply snap into fixture head of the Stenos Directional Module.
-
The power track contains three copper conductors: The center conductor is a common positive (+), while the outer conductors are separate negatives (-).
-
The ambient and directional modules have asymmetric electrical contact pins that allow for 2-channel installations depending upon the module orientation when inserted into the track housing. This 2-channel feature of the power track allows for the creation of two separately controllable lighting zones. For example, all ambient modules can be controlled on channel #1 and all directional modules can be controlled on channel #2.
-
If only 1 channel control is desired, the separate negative (-) power feed wires can be tied together when wiring the remote power supply.
