Noise/vibration information

Measuring values determined in accordance with EN 62841.

WARNING! The specified overall vibration values and noise emission
values were measured in accordance with a standardised test procedure and can be used in order to compare one power tool with another.

The specified overall vibration values and specified noise emission values can be used to establish a preliminary evaluation of the exposure.

The vibrations and noise emissions generated when the power tool is actually being used may deviate from the specified values depending on the manner in which the power tool is used, and specifically, on the basis of the type of workpiece being machined. This may be caused by the following influencing factors that should be taken into account before and during each use:

  • Is the device being used correctly?
  • Is the correct type of material being processed?
  • Is the device in proper working order?
  • Are the handles or optional vibration handles mounted and fixed securely up against the body of the machine?

If your hands experience an unpleasant sensation or the skin changes colour
while you are using the machine, immediately discontinue your work. Take sufficient breaks. If you do not take sufficient breaks, this may cause a hand/ arm vibration syndrome.

You should estimate the level of load caused in conjunction with the work or use of the machine and take the appropriate breaks. This method can be used to considerably minimise the level of load during the entire working time.
Minimise risks in which you are exposed to vibrations. Take care of your machinery in accordance with the directions in the operation instructions.

If the machine is to be used frequently, contact your dealer and arrange anti- vibration equipment (handles) if necessary.

Avoid using the tool in temperatures of t = 10 °C or lower. Draw up a working schedule which can be used to minimise vibration loads.

Work area

  1. Keep work area clean and well lit.
Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.

  2. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in
the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

  3. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical Safety

  1. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any
way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

  2. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

  3. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

  4. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

  5. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the
    risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

  1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense
when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

  2. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.
Protective equipment such as dust masks, non-skid safety shoes, hard
hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

  3. Prevent unintentional starting.
Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying
power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

  4. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the
power tool may result in personal injury.

  5. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

  6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your
hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

  7. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and
collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used.
Use of these devices can reduce dust related hazards.

  8. Do not assume a false sense of security and do not overstep the safety rules for power tools, even if you are familiar with the power tool after many uses. Careless actions may cause serious injuries within fractions of a second.

Power tool use and care

  1. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

  2. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

  3. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

  4. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to  operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

  5. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

  6. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

  7. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

  8. Keep handles and grips dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grips do not enable safe handling and control of the power tool in the event of unexpected situations.

Safety notes for power drills

Safety information for all types of work

  1. Wear hearing protection during impact drilling. The effects of noise can cause hearing loss.
  2. Use the extra handle(s). Loss of control can lead to injury.
  3. Hold the power tool on the insulated grip areas when carrying out work where the power tool may come into contact with hidden power lines or its own connection cable. Contact with a live cable can also apply voltage to metal parts and lead to an electric shock.

Safety precautions when using long drills

  1. Never work with a speed higher than the maximum permitted
speed for the drill. When using with higher speeds, the drill may bend easily if it is able to rotate freely without contact with the workpiece, and result in injuries.

  2. Always start the drilling process with a low speed and with the drill in contact with the workpiece.
When using with higher speeds, the drill may bend easily if it is able to rotate freely without contact with the workpiece, and result in injuries.

  3. Do not exert excess pressure and only place pressure in a longitudinal direction to the drill. Drills may bend, and break, as a result or lead to a loss of control and to injuries.

Safety instructions relat- ing specifically to the equipment

  • Before drilling into walls make sure that you are not breaking into an electricity, gas or water supply line. Use a detector.
  • Always unplug drill before changing drill or bit.
  • To avoid injuries, securely attach the workpiece (e.g. with vice or clamp).
  • When drilling or driving screws: Do not allow the motor to stall under the load.
  • If the mains connection cable of this device is damaged, it must be replaced with a special connection cable that can be obtained from the manufacturer or their customer service.

Dust/chip extraction

Dust from materials such as lead-based paint, and some types of wood, minerals and metals can be harmful to health.
Touching or inhaling this dust may cause the device operator, or personnel in the vicinity, to develop allergic reactions and/or respiratory illnesses.

Certain dust types – such as oak or beech dust – are considered to be carcinogenic, especially when combined with additives used for wood treatment (chromate, wood preservatives). Material containing asbestos must only be processed by specialists.

  • Ensure that the workspace is well ventilated.
  • The use of a respirator mask with a grade P2 filter is recommended.

Observe the applicable national regulations relating to the materials to be processed.

Installation and setting

Mounting the additional handle

The additional handle (6) can be mounted on the right or the left of the chuck, as required. Release the handle piece of the additional handle by turning to the left until it can be pushed over the chuck (8) and onto the tensioning neck. The holder cams on the underside of the tensioning neck must fit into the holder grooves of the tensioning ring. This allows you to select a comfortable working position and, at the same time, secures the additional handle from vibration-related sliding. Tighten the handle piece, by turning to the right until the additional handle is fixed to the machine.

Mounting the depth stop

Loosen the additional handle (6) so that the hexagonal screw exposes the opening for the depth stop. Slide the depth stop (7) into the opening and tighten the handle.

Setting the depth stop

  • Fit the drill and lock into place.

  • Loosen the additional handle.

  • Slide the depth stop to the same length as the fitted drill.
Do this by pressing it up against a level wall.

  • Use the scale on the depth stop to read off the value in mm, and deduct the required drilling depth from this figure.

  • Set this value on the depth stop and tighten the additional handle.

Changing tools

CAUTION! Pull the power plug.

The machine has a quick-action chuck that enables tools to be changed by
hand without using a tool.

Hold the machine by the rear chuck ring. Open the chuck by rotating the
front ring anti-clockwise. Insert the drill and rotate clockwise on the front ring to secure.

Selecting speed (Fig. 2)

WARNING! Pull out power plug.

The speed selector allows you to adjust the number of revolutions of the tool to the type of material being drilled.

  • Turn the speed selector on the On-Off switch (4) in the (–) direction.
The maximum number of r.p.m. is reduced.

  • Turn the speed selector in the (+) direction: The number of r.p.m. is increased up to the maximum speed.

With the On-Off sliding switch the number of r.p.m. can be varied continuously within the selected maximum speed.

Right or left (clockwise or anti-clockwise) rotation (5)

IMPORTANT! Do not change drilling direction when the drill is in rotation; wait until the drill has come to stop. The chucks of reversible drills are always fixed by a screw with a left hand thread. This screw must be loosend before the drill chuck can be removed and is accessible through the front of the chuck.
To loosen a screw with a left hand thread, turn in a clockwise direction.

Operation

Switching on/off

Insert the power plug into a suitable socket.

IMPORTANT! Always switch the motor on before contacting the material.
