General safety instruc­tions for handling power tools

WARNING Read all safety precautions, and instructions, and pay attention to the igures and technical data pertaining to this powerful tool. Failure to follow the following instructions may cause electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
Store all safety notes and instruc­tions for future reference.

  1. Workspace safety
    a) Keep your working area clean and well-lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.
    b) Do not operate power tools in an explosive atmosphere, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gasses, or dust. Power tools create sparks, which may ignite dust or vapors.
    c) Keep children and bystanders away when operating a power tool. Distractions may cause you to lose control of the power tool.

  2. Electrical safety
    a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. The plug may not be modified in any way. Do not use an adapter in conjunction with protective­earth power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
    b) Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radia­ tors, cookers, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
    c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. The ingress of water into a power tool will increase the risk of an electric shock.
    d) Do not misuse the connect­ ing cable by using it to carry the power tool, hang it up, or pull the plug out of the socket. Keep the connect­ ing cable away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or entangled connecting cables increase the risk of an electric shock.
    e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use only extension cords that have been designed for outdoor use. The use of an extension cord suitable for the outdoors will reduce the risk of an electric shock.
    f) If it is not possible to avoid using the power tool in a damp environment, use a fault­current circuit­breaker. The use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
    NOTE: The term “residual current device (RCD)” may be replaced by the term “ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI)” or “earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB)”.

  3. Safety of persons
    a) Be careful and ensure that you pay attention to what you are doing, and make sure you are using the power tool sensibly. Do not use a power tool if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating a power tool may result in serious personal injury.
    b) Use safety equipment. Always wear goggles. Wearing personal protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-slip safety shoes, a hard hat, or ear defenders, according to the type of power tool and the usage, will reduce the risk of injuries.
    c) Avoid switching on accidental­ ly. Ensure that the power tool is switched off before connect­ ing it to the power supply and/ or battery pack, picking it up, or carrying the device. If you have your finger on the switch when moving the power tool or have the power tool switched on when connecting to the power supply, this may lead to accidents.
    d) Remove any adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may cause injury.
    e) Avoid unnatural body positions. Ensure that you have a secure stance and keep your balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in the event of unexpected situations.
    f) Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothing, jewelry, or long hair may be caught by moving parts.
    g) If dust extraction and collec­tion systems are provided, ensure that they are connected and used correctly. The use of dust extraction systems can reduce dust-related hazards.
    h) Do not assume a false sense of security and do not overstep the safety rules for power tools, even if you are familiar with the power tool after many uses. Careless action can lead to serious injuries within split seconds.

  4. Use and handling of the power tool
    a) Do not overload your power tool. Use the appropriate power tool for the task at hand. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer in the specific performance range.
    b) Do not use the power tool if the switch is defective. Any power tool that cannot be switched on or off is dangerous and must be repaired.
    c) Pull the plug out of the sock­ and/or remove a removable battery pack before making any changes to the device settings, changing insertion tools, or put­ ting the power tool down. This precautionary safety measure prevents the risk of the power tool from starting up accidentally.
    d) Keep power tools not in use away from reach by children. Do not anyone to operate the power tool who is not famil­iar with it, or who has not read these instructions. Power tools are dangerous when used by inexperienced persons.
    e) Look after your power tools and tool inserts carefully. Check whether moving parts function properly and do not bind, and check whether parts are broken or damaged in such a way that the functionality of the power tool is affected. Have any damaged parts been repaired before using the power tool? Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
    f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
    g) Use the power tool, insertion tool, insertion tools, etc. in accordance with these instruc­tions. Take the working condi­tions and the task to be com­pleted into account. Using the power tool for purposes for which it was not intended may result in a hazardous situation.
    h) Keep handles and grips dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grips do not allow safe operation and control of the power tool in unforeseen situations.

  5. Battery use and care
    a) When recharging a battery, only use chargers that have been rec­ommended by the manufactur­er. With a charger that is designed for use with a particular type of rechargeable battery, there is a risk of fire if it is used with other rechargeable battery types.
    b) Only use the rechargeable bat­teries intended for the power tools. The use of other batteries may lead to injury and risk of ire.
    c) When not in use, keep the rechargeable battery away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal­lic objects that may bridge the contacts. A short circuit between the battery contacts may result in burns or fire.
    d) Fluid may escape from the rechargeable battery if it is used incorrectly. Avoid all contact with this. In the event of accidental contact, rinse with water. If this fluid should get into the eyes, you should also seek medical assis­tance. Leaking battery fluid may result in skin irritations or burns.
    e) Do not use a damaged or mod­iied battery. Damaged or Modified batteries may behave unpredictably and lead to fire, explosion, or personal injury.
    f) Do not expose a battery to fire or high temperatures. Fire or temperatures over 130 ° C can cause an explosion.
    g) Follow all charging instructions and never charge the battery or the cordless tool outside the temperature range specified in the operating instructions. Incorrect charging or charging outside the permitted temperature range can destroy the battery and increase the risk of ire.

  6. Service
    a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified technician using only original spare parts. This ensures that the safety of your power tool is maintained.
    b) Never service damaged bat­teries. All battery maintenance should be performed by the manufacturer or by authorized service centers only.

  7. Safety instructions for drills Safety instructions for all work
    a) Hold the tool using the insulat­ ed handle surfaces when carry­ ing out work during which the insertion tool might touch hid­ den power cables or its own power supply cable. Contact with a live cable can also apply voltage to metal parts and lead to an electric shock.
    Safety instructions when using long drills
    a) Never work at a higher rotation speed than the maximum permitted speed for the drill. At higher speeds, the drill bit can easily bend when rotating freely without contact with the workpiece and this can result in injury.
    b) Always start drilling at a low speed and when the drill is in contact with the workpiece. At higher speeds, the drill bit can easily bend when rotating freely without contact with the workpiece and this can result in injury.
    c) Do not apply excessive pres­ sure and only apply lengthwise pressure to the drill. Drills can bend resulting in breakage or a loss of control and injuries. .

  8. Safety notes for rechargeable battery/charger
    a. This charger may be used by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities or a lack of experience and knowl­ edge as long as they are super­ vised or have been taught to use the charger safely and they are aware of the risks involved.
    b. Children may not play with the charger. Cleaning and user maintenance may not be carried out by children unless they are supervised. c If the power cable of this charg­ er is damaged, it may only be replaced by the manufacturer, their customer service depart­ mentor a similarly qualified per­ son, in order to prevent risks.
    d. Do not use this charger to charge batteries that are not rechargeable.
    e. Place the battery charger and battery on a well­ventilated sur­ face during charging.
    f. Separate the charger from the power supply and allow it to cool down before cleaning, mainte­ nance, and storage.
    g. Protect electrical parts from dampness. To prevent electric shock, never submerge electrical parts in water or other liquids while cleaning or operating. Never hold the charger under running water. Please observe the instructions for cleaning and maintenance.
    h. Keep the charger away from rain or dampness. Water entering the charger will increase the risk of an electrical shock.
    i. When recharging a battery, only use chargers that have been recommended by the manufacturer. With a charger that is designed for use with a particular type of battery, there is a risk of fire if it is used with other battery types.
    j. Do not charge batteries that do not belong to the unit. The charger is designed only to be suitable for use with the supplied rechargeable battery and with the voltages specified in the technical data. Otherwise, there is a risk of fire or explosion.
    k. Keep the charger clean. Dirt increases the risk of an electrical shock.
    l. Check the charger, cable, and plug before each use. If you detect a fault, do not use the charger. In the event of dam­ age to the charger and/or the connection cable, the charger must be scrapped and replaced with one of the same types. Damaged chargers, cables, and plugs increase the risk of an electrical shock.
    m. Do not operate the charger on easily flammable surfaces (e. g. paper, textiles, etc.) or in a lam­mable environment, and do not cover the device. The heating of the charger that occurs during the charging process may cause a fire.
    n. Fluid may escape from the rechargeable battery if it is used incorrectly. Avoid contact with this. In the event of accidental contact, rinse with water. If liquid should get into the eyes, get medical assistance. Leaking battery fluid may result in skin irritations or burns.
    o. Do not open the rechargeable battery. This action carries a risk of a short circuit.
    p. Protect the rechargeable bat­tery from exposure to heat; keep it away from constant sun­ light and ire, for example. Otherwise, there is a risk of explosion.
    q. Do not short­circuit the rechargeable battery. Otherwise, there is a risk of explosion.
    r. In the event of damage to and improper use of the recharge­ able battery, vapors may be produced. Ensure plenty of fresh air, and in the event of complaints, contact a doctor. These vapors may irritate the air passages.

Safety instructions relat­ing specifically to the equipment

CAUTION! The machine has an LED for workplace illumi­ nation. Do not look directly into the beam of light as this may result in damage to the eyes.

  • Only use the device, battery charger, and accessories for the purpose they are intended for!

  • Before putting the cordless drill/ screwdriver down, make sure that all moving parts have come to a standstill.

  • Avoid frequent jams when driving screws.

  • The charger may only be connected to the voltage source specified on the type plate.

  • Only recharge the battery using the supplied charger.

  • Protect both the charger and the cordless drill/screwdriver from moisture. Never submerge in water!

  • Do not use the charger out in the open.

  • To protect the rechargeable battery from damage, do not expose it to temperatures over 40°C.

  • When recharging, pay attention to the correct polarity „+/–“.

Proper use of the product

Drilling in wood and metal, use as a screwdriver. Only use the device, battery charger, and accessories (observe manufacturer specifications) for the purpose they are intended for! All other uses are expressly forbidden.
This machine is only designed for private use.
Improper use of the product
All applications carried out with the device that is not listed in the „Proper use of the product“ chapter will be considered improper use.
Uses for which the tool is not designed may cause risks and injury. Do not use accessories that are not intended specifically for this electrical tool.
Tool inserts that do not fit precisely to the sanding spindle of the electrical tool will rotate unevenly, vibrate very heavily, and may lead to a loss of control.
There is a risk of injury. The user of the device is liable for all property and personal damages occurring as the result of incorrect use.
If other components or non-original components are used with the machine, the manufacturer’s guarantee is voided.
Remaining risks:
The operating instructions for this electrical tool contain comprehensive tips for the safe handling of electrical tools. Try to keep the vibration loads as low as possible. Examples of measures that may be taken to reduce the vibration load include wearing gloves when using the tool and limiting the length of the working period. Unpacking and checking

  1. Remove the packaging materials and all protective foils.
  2. Pay attention to ensure that the packaging material and foils do not enter the hands of children. Risk of suffocation!
  3. Check the machine and accessories for completeness and for any visible damages. In the event of any kind of damage, do not start to use the machine.

Charging the rechargea­ble battery

CAUTION! The rechargeable battery of type MAS18­V1AP belonging to this cordless drill/screwdriver MAS18­V1 may only be charged using the charger type JLH412102400G. Any use of any other charger or the use of charger type JLH412102400G connected to a power supply other than the one listed on the type plate may lead to personal injury and damages.
Removing the rechargeable bat­tery (Figure 2)
Press the battery to unlock button (8) and pull the battery pack (6) out battery holder (9).
Inserting the battery pack (Figure 2)
Slide the rechargeable battery (6) as far as it will go into the battery holder (9) and allow it to click into place.
Charging the battery pack (Figure 3)
CAUTION! The rechargeable battery is not completely charged when it leaves the facto­ry. Charge the battery pack before using it for the first time.
CAUTION! Only use the sup­ plied charger to charge the rechargeable battery (12).
CAUTION! Check the voltage specifications of the charger (12) with the voltage of your mains power supply before plugging the charger in.

  1. Plug the charger (12) into the socket. The charging status check light (13) on the charger lights up in green and signals when ready to operate.
  2. Slide the rechargeable battery through the charging cradle (14) over the contacts of the charger (12) until it clicks audibly into place. During the charging process, the charging status check light (13) on the charger turns red.
  3. The charging process should take about 60 minutes. It is finished as soon as the red LED goes out and the green LED lights up.
  4. Press the unlocking button (8) on the rechargeable battery and remove the rechargeable battery from the charger.

CAUTION! The rechargeable battery is to be removed from the charger after the charging time is complete. Constant warming of the charger and the battery is normal and is not a fault.
Battery pack charge monitoring (Figure 4)
To monitor the charge state, the battery capacity status display (7) lights up during operation.
The charge state is shown as follows:

  • 3 x Green:
    The rechargeable battery is fully charged.

  • 2 x Green:
    The rechargeable battery is partially discharged.

  • 1 x Green:
    The rechargeable battery must be charged.

Operation

Torque pre­selection
The cordless drill/screwdriver has a torque setting function with 25+1 levels which helps to avoid damage to the screw or drill head. By rotating the torque setting (2) on your cordless drill/screwdriver, you can select the required level, from 1 (easy screwdriver action) through to maximum (heavy-duty screwdriver/ drilling action). Always select the most appropriate torque for the job at hand.
Do not use the drill setting for screwdriver work.
Tensioning a tool
Traditional screwdriver bits, bit holders, and drills up to a diameter of 13mm can be used in the chuck (1). Only use a tool that can be clamped securely in the chuck and which is designed for use with this machine. See „Technical data“.
The machine has a quick-action chuck (1). This allows you to change accessories by hand quickly and without a chuck key.

  • Open the claws of the quick-action chuck. To do this, rotate the quick-action chuck anti-clockwise. Open the quick-action chuck far enough to be able to insert the tool.
  • Insert the tool in the quick-action chuck.
  • Rotate the quick-action chuck clockwise and tighten it securely.

CAUTION! Accidentally switching the machine on is an injury risk. Set the switch for the rotation direction to the middle setting when the machine is at a standstill in order to activate the lock for the On/Off switch.
CAUTION! Risk of cuts.

  • Wear gloves to insert a drill into the quick­action chuck.
  • Tighten the quick­action chuck to clamp the tool in place.
    The chuck of right/left rotat­ ing machines is always mixed with a left­threaded screw. This must be loosened from the front through the chuck (1) before changing it. Left­threaded screws can only be loosened by turning to the right.

Switching on and off (Figure 6)

  • Switching on:
    Press the On/Off switch (11).
    The screwing/drilling process starts. During the screwing/ drilling process, keep the switch pressed. The LED working light (10) will light up.

  • Switching off:
    As soon as the screw or drill has been screwed in or removed fully, release the On/Off switch. The screwing or drilling process is completed, and the LED working light will go out.

LED working light (Figure 7)
When the machine is switched on, the LED working light (10) is lit to provide better vision and enable safer work in darker areas. The LED working light goes out when the On/Off switch is released.
CAUTION! LED working light! Do not look directly into the beam of light as this may result in damage to the eyes.

How to use

Electronic revolution regulation The electronic revolution regulation can be achieved by adapting the revolutions steplessly to the process you are using.

  • Light pressure on the On/Off switch (11) = Low revolutions to undo stubborn screws.
  • Push down fully on the switch = Highest revolutions to drill with.

CAUTION! When drilling or using as a screwdriver, avoid the motor coming to a standstill under load!
The direction of rotation, right/left (Figure 6)
The direction of rotation is determined using the “Right/Left” switch (4) above the power switch.
CAUTION! The direction of rotation may only be changed when the motor is at a standstill!

  • Installing screws: Set the right/left switch (4) to right rotation.
  • Removing screws: Set the right/left switch (4) to the left rotation.
  • Safety position: Centre switch position; with the sliding switch in this position, the machine cannot be operated. Use, for example, when taking a break or changing bits or drills.

CAUTION! Risk of over wind­ ing caused by screwing screws in too deep. Watch the screwing process carefully and, if necessary, stop early and finish the process with an ordinary screwdriver. Carry out test instal­lations!
Gear switch (Figure 8)
Using the gear switch (3) you may select two different revolution ranges.

  • Switch position 1:
    0 – 400min-¹ for installing and removing screws

  • Switch position 2:
    0 – 1500min-¹ for installing screws and drilling

The revolution range to be selected is determined by the relevant material and the intended task and should be tested using a test piece.
CAUTION! Only switch over when the motor is at a stand­ still.

After use

  • Release the On/Off switch to switch the machine off.
  • Set the left/right rotation to the middle position to block the On/Off switch and prevent unintentional activation of the machine.
  • Remove the rechargeable battery and the tool before you clean and store the machine.
  • Clean the machine as described under “Cleaning and maintenance”.

Cleaning and mainte­ nance

Cleaning
CAUTION! Electric shock!
WARNING! Risk of electric shock!

  • Wait until the machine has cooled down and remove the rechargeable battery from the machine.
  • Before cleaning the charger, always pull the plug out.
  • Make sure that no water is able to enter the machine.
  • Do not damage the surfaces of the machine.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, brushes with metal or nylon bristles, or sharp or metallic cleaning tools such as knives, hard spatulas, or similar.
  • Use a mild cleaning agent and a dry or damp, but not dripping wet, cloth. Do not use cleaning agents that contain solvents!
  • Always keep the ventilation slots free from dust deposits in order to prevent the machine from overheating.
  • Dry the machine and tools with a soft cloth.
  • We recommend cleaning the machine after every use.

Maintenance
The machine does not contain any parts that need to be maintained or lubricated by the user.

Storage and transpor­tation

Storage

  1. Clean the device as described above.
  2. Store the device in a dry place that cannot be accessed by children.
  3. The place of storage must be dry and frost-proof. The ideal ambient temperature must not exceed 40°C.

CAUTION! The storage of dis­ charged batteries may lead to a so­called deep discharge. This destroys the battery cells and ren­ders the rechargeable battery use­ less.
Transport
If possible, use the original packaging when dispatching.

  1. Switch the device off and remove the battery pack.
  2. Use transport protection if possible.
  3. Only carry the device by the handle.
  4. Protect the device from the heavy impacts and vibrations that may occur when transported by car.
  5. Protect the device to prevent it from sliding or falling over.

Disposal

CAUTION! Electrical and bat­tery operated units that no longer work should not be dis­ posed of in the household waste!
They are to be collected separate­ ly, in accordance with the 2012/19/EU directive for the dis­posal of electrical and electronic waste, and sent for proper and environmentally­ friendly recycling.

*Please discard power tools no longer usable at a local collection point. Collection and disposal of packaging materials separately by types complying with local
rules and regulations. For details, please contact your municipal authority concerned.
CAUTION! When it comes to battery­powered or recharge­ able electronic devices, the bat­tery/ rechargeable battery must be removed and disposed of separately in accordance with the rel­evant regulations. Batteries and rechargeable batteries should not be disposed of in household waste.
Batteries/rechargeable batteries that can no longer be used should be disposed of in the containers made available for that purpose at regional collection points or at the battery retailer.
Batteries and rechargeables may not be disposed of in the house­ hold waste!
As the consumer, you are legally obliged to return all batteries and rechargeable batteries whether they contain hazardous materials
or not, to a collection point in your community/town/store so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

Troubleshooting and assistance

Faults Potential causes and remedies
No functionality. Is– Rechargeable battery charged?

– Rotation direction switch set to center position?
(Machine cannot be switched on).
The on/Off switch cannot be pressed.| – The rotation direction switch is in the center position
The machine does not start up.| – It is possible that the carbon brushes are worn.
Consult a specialist workshop.
The drill does not cut/hardly cuts into the material to be drilled.| – Is Hammer drilling required?
Was– Correct drill bit selected?
– Is the machine accidentally set to the left rotation?

In the event of any other faults and errors, consult the customer service department detailed in the guarantee documentation.

17 – Service instructions

  • Store the machine, operating instructions, and where necessary the accessories in the original packaging. In this way, you will always have all the information and parts ready to hand.
  • Meister devices are to a large extent maintenance-free, a damp cloth being sufficient to clean the casing. Do not drop electrical machines in water. Please note additional hints given in the operating instructions.
  • Meister devices are subject to stringent quality control. If however a functional fault should occur, send the device to our servicing address. The repairs will be carried out in a short time.
  • A brief description of the defect speeds up the fault tracing and repair time. If within the guarantee period, please enclose the guarantee document and the proof of purchase.
  • In so far as a repair under guarantee is not concerned, we will charge the repair costs to your account.

PLEASE NOTE! Opening the device invalidates the guarantee claim.
IMPORTANT! We point out expressly that in accordance with the Product Liability Act we do not take responsibility for any damage caused by our applianc­ es, in so much that said damage is caused by improper repair, or original parts or parts released by us not being used when parts are changed, or repairs not being conducted by Conmetall Meister GmbH, Customer Service or an authorized specialist! The same applies analogously to the acces­sories used.

  • Pack the device well or use the original packaging in order to avoid transit damage.
  • Even after the expiry of the guarantee period, we would like to help you and carry out any repairs at a favorable price.
