User instructions
Ensure that you are fully familiar with the machine and its functions before
you use the machine.
The machine is delivered without oil. Always start by filling with oil (2) and
use the recommended fuel (1).
Starting the machine
Set the throttle in the forward position (choke) and start the machine using
the recoil starter. Always run a new or cold engine for about 30 seconds with
the choke (select on the throttle) and then set the throttle to max and run
the machine for another 30 seconds.
Do not leave the machine unattended while performing the above procedure. When
the machine is started, the two handles on the handlebar must be in the OFF
position.
- Start the engine – follow the instructions in the engine section.
- Set the throttle to max. If the engine is cold, let it warm up for about a minute at maximum speed.
- Keep a firm grip of the left handle while slowly engaging the blades using the handle on the right side of the handlebar. Press it up to 2/3 down, so that the blades start rotating and the motor does not stall.
- When the machine starts to rotate, the drive belt may partially slip, and unusual whistling and rattling noises may occur – these stop as soon as the drive belt has properly engaged.
- Once the blades begin to rotate, press the lever all the way down and hold it securely in this position.
NOTICE: A new or cold engine may stall several times when taken into use. This will cease to happen as soon as the engine has warmed up.
Moving forward
The forward drive is engaged via a handle on the left side of the handlebar.
When the handle down is pressed down against the handlebar, the machine will
immediately move forward. So be ready for the machine to start moving forward
slowly! The machine can start with a slight jerk sometimes. So be prepared for
this.
Before starting
Ensure that you have cleared the work area of hazardous material, for example,
stones, wires, debris and other items that can be ejected by the machine and
which pose a hazard to the machine and people in the vicinity of the machine.
If hazardous material cannot be removed from the work area, use of the machine
is not recommended.
Adjusting the handlebar
Adjusting the cutting height
Turn clockwise to decrease the cutting height. Turn counter clockwise to increase the cutting height.
Stopping the machine
Before carrying out any activity near the machine, switch off the engine and
wait for the blades to stop rotating. Always switch off the machine when
leaving it. Never leave the machine running at maximum speed or idling for a
long time with the drive and blade clutches disengaged, otherwise it risks
damaging the machine’s drive elements (V-belt, pulley, clutch pulley). If you
want to stop the machine moving, release the forward drive handle on the left
side of the handlebar. The machine will stop moving forwards, but the blades
will continue to rotate. To stop the rotation of the blades, release the blade
clutch on the right side of the handlebar and the rotations will be stopped by
the safety brake. To stop the engine, set the ON/OFF switch to the OFF
position. In case of critical situations, release the handles immediately.
This will disengage the forward drive and the blades. The engine will continue
to run. The engine must be switched off separately.
Engine
Overview
Functions
Fuel cock
The fuel cock must be in the ON position to start the engine. When the machine
is not in use, the fuel cock must be set to the closed (OFF) position.
Throttle setting
The throttle setting controls the engine speed. Move the throttle lever to the
left to increase rpm (FAST). Move throttle to the right to lower rpm (SLOW).
Engine ON/OFF switch
The ignition system ON/OFF switch. Must be in the ON position to turn the
engine on. Must be in the OFF position to the engine off.
Choke
A closed choke enriches the fuel mixture for cold engine start. An open choke
ensures there is the correct fuel mixture for the operation and restarting of
a warm engine.
Recoil start handle
Pulling the start handle activates the recoil starter, which starts the
engine.
Engine servicing and maintenance
WARNING: All forms of repair, adjustment, lubrication and cleaning of the
machine may only be carried out after the machine has been switched off and
the spark plug lead has been disconnected.
Servicing the engine regularly is recommended as this will ensure the engine
will continue to operate in a good and reliable condition.
Before starting
- Inspect the engine for signs of oil or fuel leaks.
- Remove dirt, especially around the silencer and recoil starter.
- Check for signs of damage.
- Check that all guards and covers are in place and that all bolts, nuts and screws are correctly tightened.
Engine oil
Ensure that there is sufficient oil in the engine. The engine can become
damaged if it operates with insufficient oil.
Air filter A dirty air filter will prevent air from reaching the
carburettor, which will reduce engine performance.
Fuel Ensure that there is sufficient petrol for the machine.
Start-up
- Open the fuel cock (ON).
- If the engine is cold, close the choke. If the engine is warm, open the choke.
- Set the throttle lever slow (SLOW), about 1/3 towards fast (FAST).
- Switch on the engine by turning the switch to the ON position.
- Use the handle for the recoil starter: Lightly pull the handle until resistance is felt, then pull hard on the cord and then let it gently return to the starting position.
- 6. If the choke valve was closed during start-up, gradually open it as the engine warms up.
Stopping the engine
In case of emergency, stop the engine by setting the switch to the OFF
position. If not an emergency, always follow this procedure:
- Set the throttle lever to SLOW.
- Set the motor switch to the OFF position.
- Close the fuel cock (OFF).
Maintenance
WARNING: All forms of repair, adjustment, lubrication and cleaning of the
machine may only be carried out after the machine has been switched off and
the spark plug lead has been disconnected.
The machine must be maintained properly and at regular intervals to keep it in
a good and reliable working condition for as long as possible. Follow the user
manual’s recommendations for maintenance and adjustment. It is recommended to
record the number of operating hours and operating conditions under which the
machine has been used in order to adapt the maintenance intervals to
conditions. If you are not sure that your technical skills are sufficient to
the task, then it is always recommended that you take the machine to an
authorised workshop for maintenance. Due to the machine’s weight, it is
recommended that two people together carry out maintenance and adjustment
tasks on the machine.
Blade replacement and sharpening
If the cutting surfaces of the blades are worn or damaged, the machine may
start to vibrate unusually – the blades must therefore be sharpened or
replaced if necessary. The machine must be placed on a firm and stable surface
and must be secured in such a way that the blades are accessible and there is
no risk of the machine suddenly moving unintentionally. Exercise extreme
caution when removing the blades. The blades are very sharp. It is advised to
use safety gloves. The engine must be switched off and the spark plug removed
before replacing the blades! The individual blades are removed by removing the
bolt in the bracket:
Cleaning
When cleaning the machine, always comply with applicable laws and regulations
regarding environmental rules on wastewater disposal. Never wash the machine
with steam or high-pressure cleaners otherwise this may damage electrical
components and make it difficult to start the engine afterwards. All soil,
dirt and plant residues should be removed from the machine at the end of the
season. Check the blades for wear and damage. Sharpen the blades or replace if
necessary and give the blades a protective coat of oil. The wheels should be
removed from the axle and thoroughly cleaned. Lubricated the hub with suitable
grease. The engine must be switched off and the spark plug lead removed.
Storage
Before the machine is stored away for a longer period of time, it must be
thoroughly cleaned as described above. Any damage to the painted surfaces must
be repaired. It is advisable to apply protective oil onto the blades and to
drain the petrol from the tank and carburettor. Make sure that no unauthorised
person has access to the machine. Protect the machine from the effects of the
weather but do not use airtight packing, as this may lead to an increased risk
of rusting.
Transport
During transport, the machine must be upright and securely fastened. There
must not be any petrol in the tank, or alternatively, the fuel cock must be
closed.
Disposal
The machine and its parts and packaging must be disposed of in accordance with
local applicable regulations and guidelines.
