Introduction

This user manual contains a description of the machine and instructions necessary to operate the machine safely and correctly. It also contains the instructions for the daily and periodic maintenance of the machine.
It is the responsibility of the employer (the machine owner) to ensure that anyone who operates the machine or carries out maintenance or repairs on the machine has read the user manual.
It is recommended that only original spare parts and accessories are used. The use of non-original parts can be hazardous and reduce the lifetime and performance of the machine. The use of non-original parts may void the machine’s warranty.
If uncertainty arises concerning the information in the user manual, please contact the supplier.

General information

The user manual is important for the safe operation of the machine and must always accompany the machine. READ, UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW the instructions in the
user manual before taking the machine into use.
The illustrations used in the user manual may differ from the actually delivered equipment, since for the sake of clarity, some components may have been removed in an illustration.
The user manual was devised in accordance with the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and relevant technical standards.
This symbol together with the signal words: DANGER, IMPORTANT, and WARNING is used in the user manual to drawing attention to the machine’s safety and operation. It is important that all of the stated guidelines are followed.

Safety instructions

In general

  • Read the user manual thoroughly before using the equipment.
  • Follow all of the safety instructions. Failure to follow instructions or guidelines may lead to personal injury.
  • Always save the user manual for future use.
  • If the equipment is sold or lent to someone else, the user manual must be included.
  • The equipment may not be used if faults or deficiencies are detected.
  • Never use the equipment in environments where there is an explosion hazard or in the vicinity of flammable liquids or gases.
  • Always ensure that the equipment cannot be switched on unintentionally.
  • Do not use the equipment if the ON/OFF button does not function properly.
  • Keep children at a safe distance from the equipment! Store the equipment out of the reach of children and unauthorized persons.
  • Do not overload the equipment and do not use it for any purpose it was not intended for.
  • Exercise caution and do not use the equipment if you are tired or have consumed alcohol or drugs or medicine. Do not use the equipment if you are unable to use it safely.
  • Children must not be allowed to use the equipment. Persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or persons who lack experience and/or knowledge about the product may only use the product if they are under the supervision of a person who is responsible for their safety or is instructed in the use of the equipment by a person who is responsible for their safety.
  • Always comply with applicable laws and rules relating to safety, health, and the working environment.

Electricity

  • The equipment may only be connected to a power outlet that is correctly installed and which has an earth connection.
  • Ensure that the power supply complies with the specifications for the equipment before connecting the equipment. The equipment may only be used within the specifications of voltage and power (see the equipment nameplate).
  • Do not touch the plug with wet hands. Always remove the plug from the socket by pulling the plug and not the cable.
  • The cable may not be bent, trapped, pulled, or driven over, or damaged by sharp edges, oil or heat.
  • Do not lift the equipment by the cable and do not use the cable for any other purpose than its intended purpose.
  • Always check the cable and plug before use.
  • If the cable is damaged, immediately unplug the plug from the power outlet socket. Do not use the equipment if the cable is damaged.
  • If the equipment is not being used, switch off the equipment and unplug the equipment from the main power outlet.
  • Ensure that the equipment is switched off before plugging it into the main power outlet or before removing the plug from the main power outlet.
  • Disconnect power before moving the equipment.

Soldering station

  • Soldering irons generate a significant amount of heat. Ensure that you keep to a safe distance, otherwise, personal injury can occur. Use the built-in soldering iron holder.
  • After use, allow the soldering iron to cool down before storing it away.
  • The equipment may not be exposed to moisture as this can lead to an electric shock!
  • Only move the equipment after it has completely cooled down, otherwise, there is a risk of burns or fire.
  • Only replace the soldering iron tip after having first removed the plug from the main power outlet socket and having allowed the soldering iron to completely cool down.
  • Never carry out work on electrical components that are life. Always check to ensure the component is disconnected from the power supply and check there is no voltage before starting work on the component.
  • Protect body and eyes against flowing soldering metal – use suitable safety workwear and safety goggles.
  • Gasses that develop when soldering can be hazardous to health. It is therefore recommended that a suitable air extraction unit is used to ensure there is sufficient ventilation.
  • When the soldering iron is switched on, both the tip and tip holder become very hot. To avoid burns, only hold the soldering iron by the soldering iron handle.
  • Never use the soldering iron in environments where there is a risk of explosion or where there are flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Before carrying out any form of maintenance or cleaning of the soldering iron, always remove the plug from the main power socket and allow the soldering iron to cool down completely.
  • Symbols on the equipment may not be removed or covered over. If information is no longer legible, it must be replaced immediately.

Using for the first time

Fit or replace the soldering iron tip
WARNING!

Allow the soldering iron to cool down completely before replacing the soldering iron tip.

Some soldering iron tips are very sharp. Always use safety gloves and/or pliers when replacing a soldering iron tip.
The tip of the soldering iron is designed for point soldering and the soldering of wires. The flat soldering iron is designed for light electrical component work.
How to replace the soldering iron tip

Switch off the soldering iron and remove the plug from the main power outlet socket. Allow the soldering iron to cool down completely. Unscrew the existing soldering iron tip and remove it from the soldering iron tip holder.
Screw securely a new soldering iron tip in the soldering iron tip holder. Be careful not to overtighten the soldering iron tip.
Preparation of the cleaning sponge
Place the sponge (8) in the tray (10) and moisten it with water before use.

Operation

Switch the soldering iron on at the ON/OFF button and select the temperature setting.

Switch Set the switch (3) to [I].
The display (17) will show the pre-set temperature for a couple of seconds and will then show the actual temperature of the soldering iron tip (9).
The temperature can be set in the range of 200–450 o C (see the recommended temperatures on the next page).
Select the desired temperature either by pressing the button for the pre-set temperatures ((14), (15), (16)) or by pressing the [+] (12) button or [-] (13) button, which will adjust the temperature up or down by 10º C.
The display shows when the temperature of the soldering iron tip has reached the correct operating temperature.
To switch off the soldering iron station, set the ON/OFF switch (3) to [0].
Temperature
The correct temperature depends on several factors. For example:

  • The type of metal being soldered.
  • The thickness and size of the component.
  • The material of the component and its thermal conductivity.

When soldering, it is recommended that the user starts at a relatively low temperature (max. 300º C) and then increases the temperature if necessary. The correct temperature is achieved when the solder begins to melt as soon as it comes into contact with the soldering iron tip.
When de-soldering a component, a higher temperature of (400-450º C) is recommended, all depending on the solder joint’s thickness.
Soldering

  1. The soldering iron tip (9) must be pre-tinned before soldering. Heat a new or cleaned soldering iron tip and pre-tin it by touching some solder wire with the soldering iron tip.
  2. Always carry out a test on a piece of scrapped material before soldering the component.
  3. Always clean the parts that are to be soldered together before soldering.
  4. When continuing to solder, regularly clean the soldering iron tip on the damp sponge.

De-soldering
To clean a joint when de-soldering, use desoldering braid or a solder sucker (not included with the delivery).
De-soldering braid

  • Place the desoldering braid across the surface of the metal of the joint to be de-soldered and heat it with the soldering iron tip (9). The melted metal is drawn up the de-soldering braid.

Solder sucker

  • Heat up the surface of the solder joint using the soldering iron tip. Once the solder has melted activate the pump, which will suck the melted metal up.

Interruption or stopping the work
The soldering iron must be placed in the soldering iron holder (11) when not in use.

  • Switch off the soldering iron by setting the ON/OFF button (3) to [0] and place the soldering iron in the soldering iron holder so that it can cool down.
  • Remove the plug from the main power outlet socket if taking a long break from the work.
  • The soldering station must have completely cooled down before it can be placed in storage.

Standby mode
The soldering station will enter standby mode after 30 minutes of inactivity. When in standby mode the display will show [200º C] and will flash.
Pressing any button will interrupt the standby mode.

Maintenance, cleaning, storage, and transport

Remove the plug from the main power outlet socket and allow the equipment to completely cool down before carrying out any form of maintenance or adjustment.
Maintenance
The soldering station requires very little maintenance. However, soot can form on the soldering iron tip. This must be removed using fine sandpaper to ensure precise and controlled soldering. Use only original spare parts and accessories. Repairs may only be carried out by a qualified professional.
The soldering iron tip (9) is a wearing part and must be replaced as required.
Cleaning
IMPORTANT!
Risk of damaging the equipment!
The equipment must not be immersed in water or any other liquid. The soldering station must be cleaned using a soft damp cloth. Do not use strong cleaning agents, solvents, or petrol.
Storage
It is recommended that the original packaging is used to store the soldering station. Alternatively, it can be covered with a suitable cover to protect against dust. Store the soldering station out of the reach of children. The optimal storage temperature is between 10º C and 30º C.
Transport
The soldering station must be protected against impacts and vibrations when being transported.

Troubleshooting

DANGER!
Risk of personal injury!
Unauthorized repairs can lead to the equipment not functioning correctly. This can lead to personal injury or environmental damage.
Functional faults are often due to minor faults. Most faults will be easily remedied. See the table below before contacting the supplier.

Problem Cause Solution
Solder tin does not warm up and melt. No power. Check the power supply

(plug) functions correctly.
If required, seek help from a qualified professional.
The cable or connector is damaged.| Have a qualified professional replace the cable.
The soldering tin does not flow evenly.| The temperature is too low.| Adjust the temperature.
The soldering iron tip is loose.| Switch off the soldering iron station and allow it to cool down completely.
Screw securely the soldering iron tip in the soldering iron tip holder.

Disposal

The equipment and its packaging must not be disposed of with ordinary household waste because of environmental considerations.
The material must be sorted and disposed of in accordance with applicable local regulations.
**** The packaging consists of cardboard and recyclable plastic. Ensure that the materials are recycled.
