  • Only use the fan for its intended purpose, see the installation and operating instructions enclosed with the fan.
  • Use personal protective equipment (protective clothing, hard hat, protective goggles, etc.) for your protection in the event of possible hazards. Pay attention to the applicable safety and accident prevention regulations.
  • Safety devices are designed for your safety. Never bypass or tamper with the safety devices.

DANGER

  • Do not deposit combustible materials, liquids, or gases near the fan → In case of ignition or fire, hazardous substances may enter the rooms with the ventilation.
  • Never operate the fan in an explosive atmosphere or in combination with a lab extraction unit → Risk of explosion due to explosive gases and dust.
  • Grease and oil vapors from range hoods may soil the fan and air ducts and reduce efficiency. Never use a fan to convey these substances→ unit damage.
  • Risk of death from carbon monoxide when operating with air-ventilated fireplaces. Ensure sufficient supply air intake when operating with air-ventilated fireplaces. Observe the maximum permitted pressure difference of 4 Pa. This mo-del always requires the approval of a regional master chimney sweep.
  • Choking hazard if packaging materials are swallowed. Keep foil materials and small parts away from children.

WARNING

  • Before removing covers and installing the electrics, switch off all supply circuits and secure them against being accidentally switched back on. Position a visible warning sign.
  • The fan does not satisfy standard DIN 18017-3 for single-air extraction systems. Do not use in systems per DIN 18017-3.
  • Note the insulation of connected ducts and ventilation channels.
  • Provide sound insulation measures for ducts and ventilation channels. Use tubular sound absorbers to reduce noise emissions or for acoustic insulation. Recommendation: Insu-late the channels sufficiently to prevent diffusion.
  • Never use the fan to convey chemicals or aggressive gases/vapors → Risk to health if these substances are spread throughout the rooms.
  • Operate the fan only with the original components
    • Risk of injury and risk to health in case of modifications or conversions or if non-approved components are used. Changes and modifications are not permitted and release the manufacturer from any guarantee obligations and liability, e. g. if the housing is drilled at a point that is not permitted or when a stepped grommet is used.
  • Secure work areas against unauthorized entry, falling, and falling objects → Risk of injury/equip-ment damage if the fan or an object falls during installation, removal, cleaning, maintenance, or repair. Pay attention to the applicable accident prevention regulations.

CAUTION
Clean the fan at regular intervals, especially after a longer period of standstill → Risk to health due to deposits on the unit (mold, germs, dust, etc.) after a longer period of standstill.

ATTENTION

  • Install the fan according to the planning specifications → Operation contrary to the intended purpose if the fan is incorrectly or improperly installed. Operation is only permitted with a correct installation position, with mounted co-ver and external protective grille. The fan may be operated only if the protection against accidental contact with the impeller is guaranteed to be by DIN EN ISO 13857.
  • Never operate the fan during the construction phase. Fan and ducting can become dirty and damage the fan.

Operation and use

CAUTION

  • Ensure a sufficient supply of air intake.
  • When the fan is running, keep a sufficient distance from the fan and do not insert any objects into the unit → Risk of injury due to the suction effect of the fan and the rotating impeller. Hair, clothing, jewelry, etc. may be pulled into the fan if you get too close to it.
  • People with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or a lack of knowledge may only operate the fan if they are properly supervised or have been correctly instructed regarding the dangers by a responsible person. This also applies to children.
  • Switch the fan off immediately if it is damaged, especially if you notice damage or faults that endanger persons or property. Prevent further use until the unit has been completely repaired.
  • In the event of a fire or chemical accident (smoke, vapors) in your environment, switch off the fan until the outside air is harmless again.
  • Only operate the fan when it is completely assembled correctly installed and adjusted.

Installation

WARNING

  • Observe the requirements at the installation site, environmental conditions, and technical data of the fan.
  • The motor may still be very hot after the overload protection has been triggered or the fan has been switched off → Risk of burning due to hot motor. Note the cooling time. This can be up to 15 minutes, depending on the fan type. Usually, the fan switches back on automatically after cooling down. For various unit variants, start the fan with the On switch.
  • Before working on the fan or removing covers, wait until the fan has come to a standstill → risk of injury when the fan is running.
  • When working at heights, use suitable ladders/climbing aids and ensure that they are stable. Ensure that you are standing securely and cannot lose your balance and that there is no one under the unit.
  • The applicable accident prevention regulations must be observed. Assembly areas must be secured against unauthorized entry, falling objects, and falling.
  • Switch off the fan’s power supply before carrying out any work on it → Risk of injury due to unexpected or automatic start-up. The fan may start up automatically after shutting down in response to an overload, clearing of an impeller blockage, or accidental switch-on.

Electrical connection

WARNING — Risk of electric shock

  • Observe the safety rules of electrical engineering. Before taking off covers and before installing the electrics, shut down all supply circuits, switch off the mains fuse, check that no voltage is present, secure against being accidentally switched back on, and position a visible warning sign.
  • Observe the applicable regulations for electrical installations, e.g. DIN EN 50110-1 and DIN EN 60204-1, in Germany in particular VDE 0100 with the corresponding parts → In case of non-observance danger due to electric shock, fire, or short circuit.
  • Only connect the fan according to the circuit diagram/wiring plan. A fixed electrical installation is mandatory. Note the voltage and frequen-cy stated on the rating plate. Use a mains isolation device with contact openings of at least 3 mm at each pole. Avoid contact with components (damage due to static charge).
  • Use cables of type NYM-O or NYM-J, with 3 x 1.5 mm² or 5 x 1.5 mm², suitable for the unit type. For permissible cable types, see chapter Technical data of the installation and operating instructions or www.maico-ventilatoren.com.
  • The degree of protection stated on the rating plate is only guaranteed if installation is undertaken correctly and the connection cable is inserted correctly. The cable sheathing must be tightly enclosed, and sealed on-site if required.
  • With protection class I, connect the PE conductor and check the connection.
  • Perform a function test after completing installa-tion, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Proceed with caution in the event of a malfunction. The fan may also be energized when at a standstill and may be switched on automatically by sensors (time delay, humidity, etc.) or by the thermal switch in the motor winding. Maintenance and fault finding are only permissible when carried out by qualified electricians.
