Installation and operating instructions for EVN 15 Window Fans Unit overview (figures A to G)

Scope of delivery

Flange sleeve with socket spanner, inner housing, and shutter. Accessory bag with 4 hexagon head screws (M5 x 50), 4 lock nuts, tension relief, and self- sealing grommet. These installation and operating Instructions.

Safety
Please read the instructions carefully before installing, commissioning, and using. Follow the instructions. Observe the safety instructions and the technical data. Please also observe the applicable accident prevention regulations and occupational health and safety measures. The fan may only be installed, set up, retrofitted, commissioned, cleaned, serviced, or repaired by installers specialized in ventilation technology. Electrical connection, commissioning, maintenance, and repairs may only be carried out by a qualified electrician by DGUV\ regulation 3, Section 2 (3), and in compliance with the relevant standards (e.g. DIN EN 50110-1) and technical rules. Further provisions of other national laws must be taken into account.

General safety instructions

Damage to the unit, functional impairment.
Never use the fan in hinged double-glazed windows, on ceilings, sloping roofs, or sloping walls.
Do not dismantle the shutter under any circumstances.
Risk of combustion/fire from flammable materials, liquids, or gases in the vicinity of the unit. Do not place any flammable materials, liquids, or gases near the unit, which may ignite in the event of heat or sparks and catch fire.
Explosive gases and dust may ignite and cause serious explosions or fire. Never use a unit in an explosive atmosphere (risk of explosion).
Risk to health from chemicals or aggressive gases/vapors. Chemicals or aggressive gases/vapors may harm health, especially if they are distributed throughout the rooms by the unit.
Never use a unit to distribute chemicals or aggressive gases/vapors.
Damage to the unit due to grease or oil vapors from range hoods. Grease or oil vapors from range hoods may contaminate the unit and air channels and reduce efficiency. Never use a unit to convey these substances.

Safety instructions regarding installation, operation, cleaning, and maintenance

Risks for children and people with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or a lack of knowledge.
The unit may only be installed, commissioned, cleaned, and maintained by persons who can safely recognize and avoid the risks associated with this work.
Risk of injury due to the suction effect of the unit, rotating impeller, or if foreign objects are inserted into the unit.
Hair, clothing, jewelry, etc. may be pulled into the unit if you get too close to it. Keep sufficient distance during operation.
Do not insert any objects in the unit. Risk of injury from glass breakage/cutting injuries if the pane is damaged.
Handle glass components with care during mounting, maintenance, and repair work. Comply with accident prevention regulations.
Risk during transport due to falling loads. Observe applicable safety and accident prevention regulations. Do not stand under a suspended load. Check the unit for transport damage.
Do not commission a damaged unit. Risk of injury and risk to health in the event of changes or modifications or if components that are not permitted are used. The unit may only be operated with original components.
Changes and modifications to the units are not permitted and release the manufacturer from any guarantee obligations and liability, e.g. if the housing is drilled at a point that is not permitted.

The danger of electric shock when operating a unit that is damaged or not fully mounted. Switch off all supply circuits. Only operate the unit when it is completely installed. Do not commission a damaged unit. Health risks due to deposits on the unit (mold, bacteria, dust, etc.). Clean the unit at regular intervals, especially after the fan has not been used for a long time. Risk of injury when working at heights. Use appropriate climbing aids (ladders). Stability should be ensured, and if necessary the ladders steadied by a 2nd person. Ensure that you are standing securely and cannot lose your balance and that there is no one under the unit. The danger of electric shock when operating a unit that is damaged or not fully mounted.

Before installing the electrics, shut down all supply circuits, deactivate the main fuse, and secure it so it cannot be switched back on. Attach a warning sign in a visible place. Be sure to observe the relevant regulations for electrical installation; e.g. DIN EN 50110-1. In Germany, particularly observes VDE 0100, with the corresponding sections. A mains isolation device with contact openings of at least 3 mm at each pole is mandatory.

Only connect the unit to a permanent electrical installation and with cables (0.75 mm² to 1.5 mm²) of type NYM-O or NYM-J. The unit may only be operated using the voltage and frequency shown on the rating plate. The unit may be energized even when at a standstill and may be started up automatically by sensors, such as those for time delay or humidity, etc. The degree of protection stated on the rating plate is only guaranteed if installation is undertaken correctly and if the connection cable is correctly guided through the self-sealing grommet.

The self-sealing grommet must tightly seal the cable sheathing. With protection class I, connect the PE conductor and check the connection. For fans installed in pivoting windows, regularly check the connection cable for damage, especially at the transition to the window sash/frame. In case of damage, further operation is not permitted.

Disconnect the fan from the power supply. Have the connection cable replaced by a trained specialist. Risk of death from carbon monoxide when operating with air-ventilated fireplaces. Ensure sufficient supply air intake during operation with an air-ventilated fireplace. The fans may only be installed in rooms, flats, or housing units of comparable size in which air-ventilated fireplaces are installed, if the simultaneous operation of air-ventilated fireplaces for liquid or gaseous fuels and the air extraction system is prevented by safety devices or the flue gas discharge of the air-ventilated fireplace is monitored by special safety devices.

Danger from burns on hot motor. The motor may still be hot after the fan has switched off. Cool-down time can take up to 30 minutes. when handling packaging materials. Observe applicable safety and accident prevention regulations. Store packaging material out of the reach of children (risk of suffocation due to swallowing).

Intended use

EVN 15 window ventilators with automatic external shutters are used to extract air from rooms. Examples of use: Restaurants, exhibition rooms, lecture halls, kindergartens, hospitals, foremen offices, or similar rooms.

Operation is only permissible with

Installation of flat glass windows with single or double glazing.
Installation in panes or thin walls with a pane/ wall thickness of 3 to 30 mm.
Installation with vertical installation position.
Built-in shutter and attached inner housing.
These fans are only intended for domestic use and similar purposes. Any other or additional use shall be deemed improper.

Function

Fan On/Off with light switch or separate switch (both to be provided by the customer).

Overload protection
Motor protection automatically switches the fan off in the event of overheating/overload.

NOTICE
After cooling/rectifying the fault, the fan can restart automatically.

Technical data

Ambient conditions

Permissible maximum temperature of air medium +40 °C.
Sufficient supply of air intake must be ensured during operation with air-ventilated fireplaces.
The maximum permitted pressure difference per residential unit is 4 Pa. Store unit only in a dry location (-20 to +50 °C).

Installation, electrical connection

CAUTION : Possible cuts in the event of glass breakage, for example, due to a tensioned pane. Only install the pane when it is not under tension. If necessary, remove the pane and put it in without tension.
CAUTION: Risk of injury in case of incorrect mounting, if the fan falls due to its inherent weight. The fan vibrates slightly. Install in windows with a thickness of 3 to 30 mm, using the enclosed mounting material.
ATTENTION: The external shutter does not close correctly if it is installed under tension. To guarantee the shutter function, only mount the shutter on a flat surface.

Allow sufficient space to the window frame or the wall or ceiling.
Do not dismantle the shutter under any circumstances.
Have the window pane cut-out fitted by a specialist. For wall/wood panel mounting, drill a cutout.
Mount the shutter only in combination with the flange sleeve.
Thoroughly clean the pane before gluing on the shutter.

Removing inner housing, figures C+D

Pull the flange sleeve on the motor out of the inner housing.
Remove the terminal box cover.

ATTENTION: For wall or wooden panel mounting, drill through the flange sleeve at the two knockout points [Z] if necessary. Drill through the 4 knockout points [Y] on the external shutter with the lamellae open.

Insert the 4 enclosed hexagon head screws into the eyelets of the external shutter until they engage.
Remove the protective foil from the gluing points.
Align the shutter in the window cut-out, press it against the window pane, and glue it in place.
ATTENTION: For wall or wooden panel mounting, attach the shutter to the wall or wooden panel using suitable mounting material.

CAUTION: Possible cuts in the event of glass breakage, for example, due to overtightened nuts. Only tighten the lock nuts carefully and not too tightly.

Attach flange sleeve to inside of window

Fit the flange sleeve onto the 4 hexagon head screws of the outer part, align, and press it lightly against the window pane.
Tighten the lock nuts with the enclosed socket spanner [9].
ATTENTION: For wall or wooden panel mounting, fasten the flange sleeve to the inside of the wall or wooden panel using a suitable mounting material.

ATTENTION: Risk of short circuit, damage to unit. Ingress of water if the power cable is incorrectly fed into the housing or if the self-sealing grommet is not fitted correctly. The degree of protection is only guaranteed if the
cable is properly fed through the housing seal provided for this purpose (self-sealing grommet). Drill a circular hole in the self-sealing grommet slightly smaller than the cable diameter.

Route the power cable to the installation site.
Pierce a circular hole in the self-sealing grommet and insert it into the housing bore provided.
Fit tension relief.
Connect the power cable to the terminal block according to the circuit diagram.
Check the connection of the PE conductor.
Put the terminal box cover on and screw it into place. Ensure the correct position and fit of the cover.
Attach the inner housing to the top of the flange sleeve and snap it into the two catches at the bottom. Do not twist it.

Commissioning

Switch the mains fuse on.
Run function test. Ensure a sufficient supply of air during operation.

Cleaning
Select regular cleaning intervals depending on the degree of soiling. Damage to the inner housing if it is cleaned in the dishwasher. Do not clean the inner housing in the dishwasher.

Grasp the inner housing at the bottom of the right and left side and pull it forward evenly.
NOTICE: Do not pull off the inner housing at the internal grille or the upper side.
Clean all components with a dry cloth. Use a vacuum cleaner if necessary. To clean the external shutter, swing the lamellae upwards. Do not use any aggressive, harmful, or highly flammable cleaning agents for cleaning.
Attach the inner housing.

Maintenance

In standard operation, the unit is maintenance-free. For fans installed in pivoting windows, regularly check the connection cable for damage, especially at the transition to the window sash/frame. In case of damage, further operation is not permitted. Disconnect the fan from the power supply. Have the connection cable replaced by a trained specialist.

Fault rectification
Fault finding and repairs are only permissible when carried out by qualified electricians. When the unit is at a standstill, check whether the thermal overload protection of the motor has reacted. The fan switches on automatically after cooling down.
