Quantek Hands-Free Door Entry Reader Installation Guide
Hands-free system installation advice
- When a tag enters the activation field of a reader, it is triggered and transmits to the corresponding receiver. It must leave that activation field before it can be triggered again.
- The button on the FREE-T tags uses channel 1. If you set a reader to channel 1, the button will be programmed automatically.
- The reader and the receiver just need power, they do not need to be joined together. (They can be installed up to 100 meters away from each other).
- For a single reader, join the white and green wires together. If you have two readers on either side of the same door, join reader 1 white to reader 2 green, and reader 1 green to reader 2 white.
- Consider putting the FREE readers on a test lead and finding the best location for them before drilling holes and chasing walls or running conduit.
Systems with more than one door
The FREE readers give out an ‘activation field’ of different ranges depending
on the reader model. The activation field of the reader(s) on door 1 cannot
overlap the activation field of the reader(s) on door 2, and so on.
The reader(s) on each door must be set to different channels and depending on
the number of doors, different groups.
- Door 1: Channel 1, Group 1
- Door 2: Channel 2, Group 1
- Door 3: Channel 3, Group 1
- Door 4: Channel 4, Group 1
- Door 5: Channel 1, Group 2
- Door 6: Channel 2, Group 2 Etc.
Note: avoid using channel 1 if you have FREE T tags This is the channel the button uses:
- Door 1: Channel 2, Group 1
- Door 2: Channel 3, Group 1
- Door 3: Channel 4, Group 1
- Door 4: Channel 2, Group 2
- Door 5: Channel 3, Group 2
- Door 6: Channel 4, Group 2 Etc.
Set the channel and group by pressing and holding the program button on the
FREE reader.
Channel: Press and hold the programming button. Each red flash equates to
a channel, if you let go of the programming button after the 3rd red flash, it
will be set to channel 3.
Group: Press and hold the program button until after the red LED has
flashed 4 times and the green LED flashes rapidly. Then each green flash
equates to a group, if you let go of the programming button after the 2nd
green flash, it will be set to group 2.
To check, turn the reader off and on, and count the number of red and green
flashes when the reader is powered back on. 3 red flashes, followed by 2 green
flashes, shows its channel 3 group 2.
Set the channels and groups before programming any tags into the
receiver.
If you have already tried programming some tags, reset all the receivers.
When this is done, you can follow the programming advice on the next page:
Programming
Start with all the tags outside the range of the FREE reader(s).
Enter programming mode on the receiver. Walk the tag into the range of the
reader, the receiver will beep to confirm. You can program more than one tag
without exiting programming mode. After a set amount of time of inactivity
(usually 10 seconds), the receiver will automatically come out of programming
mode, signaled by 2 beeps. If the activation fields of Door 1 and Door 2 are
still closed (not overlapping) when programming Door 1, turn off the reader(s)
at Door 2, and vice versa.
