INSTALLATION GUIDE
ASSEMBLING THE AIR SPRING
PLACING THE ASSEMBLY ON THE LEAF SPRING
-
STEP 1. There must be 8 inches of width between the tire and the frame to install this kit.
-
STEP 2. Raise the vehicle and support it using safety stands so that the axle can be safely dropped away from the frame, and the air spring assemblies can be put into position between the leaf spring and frame.
-
STEP 3. Remove the emergency brake line bracket from the driver’s side spring retainer. And keep this bolt.
-
STEP 4. Remove the jounce bumper from under the frame. And keep this nut.
-
STEP 5. The bolts, washers and nuts of the upper mounting bracket need to pass through the holes on the frame first and do not tighten them at this time.
NOTE:
The holes for the upper bracket on the driver’s side and the passenger’s side are different. -
STEP 6. Place the assembly on the leaf spring. The distance between the upper and lower mounting brackets needs to be between 6.5″-8″. Adjust the assembly so that the air spring is perpendicular to the bottom and top mounting brackets without twisting.
-
STEP 7. For 2008 or later models, installing the upper mounting bracket requires drilling the 3/8″ hole in the frame. Loosen the upper mounting bracket of the assembly kit. Mark the location of the holes. Then drill holes where marked.
INSTALLING THE UPPER BRACKET
- STEP 1. Attach the upper mounting bracket (1 of the Air spring bag kit list) to the frame and lock the bolts with washers and nuts.
INSTALLING THE LOWER BRACKET AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LINE BRACKET
- STEP 1. Install the lower mounting bracket (2 of the Air spring bag kit list) and fastening block (3 of the Air spring bag kit list) to the leaf spring with U-bolts, flat washers and lock nuts, then tighten the nuts. NOTE:
1. When the fastening block is not to be used, install the lower mounting bracket with a shorter U-Bolt (10 of the Air spring bag kit list).
2. The distance between the upper and lower mounting brackets needs to be between 6.5″and -8″.
3. If necessary, you can trim the excess length on the nut of the U-bolt.
- STEP 2. Remove the existing bracket. Then install the emergency brake line bracket to the lower bracket with the R clamp (6 of the Air spring bag kit list). And lock it with a previous bolt.
INSTALLING THE JOUNCE BUMPER
- STEP 1. Install the previously removed jounce bumper to the jounce bumper spacer (4 of the Air spring bag kit list). And lock it with the previous bolt and nut.
- STEP 2. Attach the assembly to the frame with bolt, washer and nuts.
- STEP 3. Repeat the above installation steps on the other side.
INSTALLING THE AIRLINES
- STEP 1. Cut the air line appropriately and push the hose into the fitting, then pull back and make sure it”s locked in place.
- STEP 2. Install the inflatable valve in a selected location, usually on the license plate at the rear of the vehicle.
CHECK AIR TIGHTNESS
- Put some air into the air spring bag, then spray a soapy solution on all connections and valves while checking for exiting air bubbles.
