REMOVING THE JOUNCE BUMPER AND PLACING THE ASSEMBLY
STEP 1.
Raise the vehicle and support it using safety stands so that the axle can be
safely dropped away from the frame, and the air spring assemblies can be put
into position between the axle and frame.
STEP 2.
Unbolt and remove the jounce bumper from the frame.
STEP 3.
If necessary, remove the harness retainer from the frame rail to make more
room for the upper bracket.
STEP 4.
If the truck has a fifth-wheel hitch installed instead of the standard factory
Reese hitch, remove the bolt on this side bracket plate. Pull the harness down
to reveal the mounting holes.
STEP 5.
Instil the driver-side upper bracket. Attach the upper bracket A (1 of the Air
spring bag kit list) to the frame with a bolt. Lock it with washers and nuts.
DRIVER’S SIDE
STEP 10.
Install the L-bracket (10 of the Air spring bag kit list) to the upper side of
the driver-side bracket and lock it.
NOTE:
One side of the L bracket needs to be in place of the harness clip.
STEP 6.
Instil the passenger side upper bracket. Attach the upper bracket B (2 of
the Air spring bag kit list) to the frame with a bolt. Lock it with washers
and nuts.
PASSENGER’S SIDE
NOTE:
- If the truck frame has an aftermarket fifth-wheel hitch, you need to remove the outer plate before drilling a 1/2″ hole.
- If the truck does not have a fifth-wheel hitch, or if a Reese fifth-wheel hitch is standard equipment, the bolt and washer can be installed directly in the slot.
STEP 1.
Place the assembly on the axle.
INSTALLING THE UPPER BRACKET
STEP 1.
Install the spacer (9 of the Air spring bag kit list) between the frame and
the upper bracket. At the same time, the spacer is passed through the bolt and
inserted into the jounce bumper hole. The driver’s side and the passenger’s
side are the same way.
STEP 2.
Push the axle up so that the upper bracket (3 OR 4 of the Air spring bag kit
list) can be bolted to the previous bracket (1 OR 2) of the Air spring bag kit
list). Then tighten the bolts with nuts and washers.
INSTALLINGTHELOWERBRACKET
STEP 1.
Adjust the assembly so that the air spring is perpendicular to the bottom and
top mounting brackets without twisting. Make sure the lower bracket is seated
on the jounce bumper strike plate.
STEP 2.
Install the lower bracket with the U-bolt (13 of the Air spring bag kit list)
to the leaf spring. Then tighten the bolts with nuts and washers.
STEP 3.
Install the fastening block (7 of the Air spring bag kit list) to the axle.
Then tighten the bolts with nuts and washers.
NOTE:
Do not pinch the brake line between the carriage bolt and the axle.
STEP 4.
Finally, make sure the nuts on the lower mounting cups are tight.
STEP 5.
You may be able to tie the wire harness and ABS line with a zip tie, so it
doesn’t rub against anything.
INSTALLING THE HEAT SHIELD (PASSENGER’S SIDE ONLY)
STEP 1.
Install the heat shield where it is closest to the passenger’s (right) side
air spring.
NOTE:
Must slide the airline protective sleeve over the airline near the exhaust
port.
INSTALLING AIRLINE SITES
STEP 1.
Cut the air line appropriately and push the hose into the fitting then pull
back and make sure it’s locked in place.
STEP 2.
Install the inflatable valve in a selected location, usually on the license
plate at the rear of the vehicle.
CHECK AIR TIGHTNESS
STEP 1.
Put some air into the air spring bag, then spray a soapy solution on all
connections and valves while checking for exiting air bubbles.
