Installation

Determine the Position of the Mount

  • Select a position that enables ergonomic viewing and/or optimal leverage for operation.

TV Wall Mounts

Television manufacturers typically list a “recommended viewing distance” on their website. Factor in that recommended distance and the adjustment capabilities of the TV Wall Mount when determining the target position.

Installation Procedures by Wall Type

  • StarTech.com offers a variety of Mounts. Our Mounts include hardware that is designed to be installed into specific mounting surfaces.
  • Ensure the selected Mount is compatible with the target wall. Follow the corresponding steps, below.

Wood Stud(s)

  1. 1. Determine the target position of the Mount, factoring in:

    • Equipment Dimensions
    • Location of the Mounting Holes in the Equipment in relation to the location of the Holes, located in the Mounting Brackets, and how this will impact the final location of the Equipment
    • Dimensions and location(s) of any Nearby Object(s)
    • Adequate clearance is factored in for any/all adjustment capabilities of the Mount
    • Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Plumbing Infrastructure
  2. Locate the center of the Wood Stud(s), using an Electronic Stud Finder. Mark the location of the Edges and Center of the Stud(s), using a Pencil.

  3. Hold the Mount or Mount Template in the desired location, to ensure the Mounting Holes align with the center of the Wood Stud(s). In addition, ensure the Mount is level, using a Spirit/Bubble Level. Use a Pencil to mark the intended location(s) of the Pilot Hole(s).

  4. Remove the Mount from the target mounting location.

  5. Scan the intended Mounting Location for Live Wires, using a Stud Finder with AC Current Detection. Mark the location of any live wires, using a Pencil.

  6. Locate the Electrical Service Panel and switch all applicable breakers to the OFF position.

  7. Drill the Pilot Hole(s), using an Electric Drill with an appropriately sized Drill Bit. The depth of the holes should equal the length of the Mounting Screws.

    • Note: Stop drilling if significant resistance is encountered.
Drill the remaining pilot holes in alternate locations.
  8. Hold the Mount in position on the Wall, aligning the Mounting Holes with the Pilot Holes. Insert and tighten the included Wall Mounting Screws, using the Electric Drill with a Phillips Head Bit, a Phillips Head Screwdriver, or a Ratcheting Socket Wrench with an appropriately sized Hex Socket.

    • Note: If the product features keyhole mounting, first secure the hardware to the wall, then hang the product from the mounting hardware. Tighten the mounting screws after hanging the product.
  9. Follow the steps to attach the Equipment to the Mount, located in the User Manual.

Drywall (No Studs)

  1. Determine the target position of the Mount, factoring in:
    • Equipment Dimensions
    • Location of the Mounting Holes in the Equipment in relation to the location of the Holes, located in the Mounting Brackets and how this will impact the final location of the Equipment
    • Dimensions and location(s) of any Nearby Object(s)
    • Adequate clearance is factored in for any/all adjustment capabilities of the Mount
    • Drywall Thickness
    • Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Plumbing Infrastructure
  2. Scan the intended Mounting Location for Live Wires, using a Stud Finder with AC Current Detection. Mark the location of any live wires, using a Pencil.
  3. Locate the Electrical Service Panel and switch all applicable breakers to the OFF position.
  4. Hold the Mount in the desired location, ensuring it is level, using a Spirit/Bubble Level. Avoid placing the Mount over any Live Wires, identified in step 2.
  5. Insert the Nails into the Slots, located along the top edge of the Mount.
  6. Drive the Nails into the Drywall, using a Hammer.
    • Note: Stop hammering if significant resistance is encountered. Select a different location for the mount.
  7. Follow the steps to attach the Equipment to the Mount, located in the User Manual.

Concrete (Solid/Blocks)

Mark the location of the Pilot Holes, using a Pencil.
  5. Drill the Pilot Hole(s), using a Concrete Drill with the appropriate size/type of Masonry Drill Bit. The depth of the holes should equal the length of the Mounting Screws.
  6. Insert the Concrete Anchors into the Pilot Holes and tap into place, using a Mallet.
  7. Align the holes, located in the Mount, with the Pilot Holes.
  8. Insert the Mounting Screws through the Mount and into the Concrete Anchors.
  9. Tighten the Mounting Screws, using a Ratcheting Socket Wrench with an appropriately sized Hex Socket.
    • Note: If the product features keyhole mounting, first secure the hardware to the wall, then hang the product from the mounting hardware. Tighten the mounting screws after hanging the product.
  10. Follow the steps to attach the Equipment to the Mount, located in the User Manual.
