INSTRUCTIONS
This tool has been specially developed to disassemble the hub and wheel
bearing housing on multi-link axles of VAG vehicles.
Suitable for wheel hubs-bearings separated in two parts where the wheel hub
and bearing are disassembled separately.
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE STEERING KNUCKLE BUT IT IS POSSIBLE TO
OPERATE DIRECTLY ON THE VEHICLE!
The problem: the steel wheel bearing housing is usually extremely tight
compared to the aluminium axle, which makes it much more difficult to remove.
When working with a hammer puller, there is a risk that various components
will be damaged. In addition, working without proper equipment could generate
fine cracks in the aluminium axle that could cause unwanted breakage.
The solution: with the help of this special tool, components can be removed
carefully and quickly directly on the vehicle. In addition, different bearing
sizes are covered, see the application list.
Wheel Hub Removal / Wheel Bearing Removal / Wheel Hub Installation
Applications as example:
Audi A4 00- / Audi A5 07- / Audi A6 97- / Audi A7 10- / Audi A8 94- / Audi Q5
08- / Audi R8 07- / Seat Exeo 08- / VW Passat 03-
Components:
1 x pressure plate
1 x set of half shells, 4 pieces.
5 x support bolts
2 x Hex Support Bolts
1 x screw with pressure nut
1 x small pressure piece
1 x medium pressure piece
1 x large pressure piece
1 x High Performance Screw Grease
REMOVING THE WHEEL HUB
To better illustrate the work steps, the following images show the replacement
of the wheel bearing on a workbench.
The tool is also designed to be used directly on the vehicle.
On some models it is necessary to slightly loosen the wheel bearing housing
screws (Fig. 1) before removing the wheel hub, as the thread protrudes too
much. (Fig.2)
This is important in order to position the half rings on the component.
Note: to work in better conditions, the side plate / sheet (Fig. 2 – A)
should also be removed, if possible.
Now the half rings can be positioned behind the wheel hub as follows. (Fig.3)
The slightly protruding edge on one side of the half rings faces the wheel
hub.
The inner diameter of the half rings has a slightly conical shape.
As soon as the half rings are attached, the support bolts can be inserted into
the holes in the wheel hub until they touch the half rings. (Fig.4)
Next, the pressure plate, small pressure piece, pressure bearing screw and
pressure nut are placed as shown in (Fig 5).
The following aspects should be noted:
– The thrust bearing of the screw should be in the center of the pressure
plate, facing outward.
– As you rotate, look for the position where all support bolts are firmly in
contact with the pressure plate and cannot unintentionally slide into the
existing holes.
– Select the appropriate pressure piece and position it at the rear to guide
the wheel hub from the rear.
Note: It must be smaller than the inside diameter of the wheel bearing.
When attaching the tools, do the following:
nsert the screw into the pressure plate so that the pressure pad is exactly in
the pressure plate mounting cone. Now insert the appropriate pressure piece
from behind onto the end of the screw and tighten the back nut.
Align the pressure plate exactly before tightening the screw. The wheel hub
can then be pulled out by operating the screw while simultaneously holding the
rear nut in place.
Attention: During the entire extraction process, make sure that all parts
are positioned precisely and securely and correct them if necessary!
Note: if necessary, we also recommend our set for extracting the inner
ring of the wheel bearing from the hub.
REMOVING THE WHEEL BEARING
After the wheel hub has been removed, the wheel bearing can be disassembled as
follows. First, the pressure plate, hexagonal bearing bolts, pressure bearing
screw, large pressure piece, and rear pressure nut are positioned as shown in
Fig.6.
Proceed as follows for the correct assembly of the tool:
Screw the two support bolts into the pressure plate from the back. Insert the
screw into the pressure plate from the front so that the pressure pad is
exactly in the mounting cone of the pressure plate.
Now place the appropriate (large) pressure piece from behind on the end of the
screw and then tighten the back nut. Before tightening the screw, align the
pressure plate so that the two spherical ends of the support bolts can be
safely and evenly supported on
the body. Differences in height are compensated for by threading the support
bolt. The wheel bearing can then be removed by driving the bolt while
simultaneously holding the back nut in place.
Attention: During the entire extraction process, make sure that all parts
are positioned precisely and securely and correct them if necessary!
