CARPET TILE INSTALLATION GUIDE
Modular Carpet Tile products must be installed in strict accordance with
Australian Standard AS/NZS 2455:2007

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before you begin check that the style, colour and pattern and are correct and that there are no visual defects. Check that you have the correct amount of carpet tiles.

SUB FLOOR

  • The floor must be dry, free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, paint, wax, or any debris that could affect adhesion of the carpet modules to the floor.
  • The floor must be level and smooth. Depressions and cracks must be filled with a liquid latex additive patching compound and all protrusions levelled. All floors must be dry. New concrete floors must be checked for moisture as per AS/NZS2455. 1:2007.
  • For best results ensure location and materials are at a temperature between 15°C-35°C for 48-72 hours before commencing installation. Under floor heating must be switched off 48 hours prior to installation and not turned back on for a minimum of 48 hours after completed installation. Turning heating elements back on prior to the 48 hour curing time may affect the performance of the adhesive.

ADHESIVES

  • Rhino Flooring Range recommends the use of 100% application of pressure sensitive adhesives, used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Application of adhesive to the sub floor is to be via trowel, roller, brush or spray also in accordance with the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Adhesive must be given sufficient time to ‘tack off’ and almost dry prior to laying of carpet modules. If the products are laid into wet adhesive, a permanent bond may occur, this could cause the carpet to bubble.

PLANNING AND LAYOUT

  • Rhino Flooring Range recommends that the installation geometry (monolithic, ashlar, brick, quarter turn, random) and any feature and/or border designs be agreed upon by all parties (if not DIY) prior to installation. Please also refer to the product  specifications in regards to suitable laying direction. Some products have limited suitability for certain laying directions which may directly impact the desired installation geometry and design. The product packaging will indicate which layout is suitable – for layout diagrams refer below.

RHINO FLOORING RANGE Modular Carpet Tile - PLANNING AND
LAYOUT

LAYING THE CARPET TILES

  • Firstly find the centre of the room by measuring the distance between the opposite corners to obtain the centre point. Mark with a chalk line.

  • Starting in the centre lay a row of tiles from the centre point to one of the opposite walls.
When you reach the opposite wall check to see if you are left with a narrow gap. A thin strip of carpet tile at the skirting will look unprofessional. To avoid this change the start point by half a tile width. Repeat the laying from the start line in the opposite direction and then towards the other two walls. Adjust the start line as necessary, until there is a reasonable gap of about half a tile all the way round the room.

  • Lay the tiles with the edges butted up tightly and squarely to the next tile. Make sure there is no trapped carpet pile between each tile. Trapped yarn may adversely affect the overall appearance of the installation and cause alignment problems.

CUTTING TECHNIQUES

  • Modules may be cut by measuring and cutting from the back using a straight edge. Care must be taken to assure the arrows are pointing in the correct direction. A template should be used.

POST INSTALLATION

  • Roll the entire installation with a 75 lb/34kg roller once it is completed.
  • Use plywood over the carpet when heavy objects are moved within 24 hours after installation.
  • Protective chair mats should be used under chairs with casters are recommended. This will prevent excessive wear to the face and possible transfer of the pressure sensitive adhesive to the back of the carpet.
