SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Read the operating instructions carefully before use.
Save them for future reference.

WARNING:
 Read all warnings, safety instructions and other directives. Failure to follow all the instructions and safety instructions can result in the risk of electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury. Save these instructions and safety instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in all the warnings below refers to mains-powered (corded) or battery-powered (cordless) power tools.

Work area

• Keep the work area well lit. Dark work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.

• Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.

• Keep children and onlookers at a safe distance when using power tools.

• You can lose control of the tool if you are distracted.
  Electrical safety

• Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.

• Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.
  Personal safety

• Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.

• Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses.

• Depending on the type of tool and how it is used, safety equipment such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmets and ear protection reduce the risk of personal injury.

• Avoid accidental starting. Make sure the power switch is in the OFF position before inserting the battery or lifting/carrying the tool.

• Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains when the switch is in the ON position, increases the risk of accidents and injuries.

• Remove adjuster keys/spanners before switching on the power tool. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the tool can cause personal injury.

• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This ensures better control over the power tool in unexpected situations.

• Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewelry and long hair can get caught in moving parts.
  Using and looking after power tools

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The tool does the job better and safer when used at the rate for which it was designed.

• Do not use the tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.

• Remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidentally starting the tool.

• Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced people.

• Keep the power tool properly maintained. Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before being used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to use.

• Use the power tool, accessories, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account actual working conditions and the work that is to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those they are intended to be used for.

Service

The power tool must only be serviced by qualified personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.

Using and maintaining battery-powered tools

• The battery must only be charged with the charger recommended by the manufacturer. A charger intended for one type of battery can result in a fire risk if used with another type of battery.

• Only use power tools with the specified batteries. The use of other batteries can cause accidents or a fire.

• When the battery is not being used it must be kept away from other metal objects such as paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other metal objects that can short circuit the terminals. Short circuiting the battery terminals can cause burns or a fire.
  Special safety instructions for the battery and charger

• Failure to handle the battery carefully can cause fluid to leak from the battery. Avoid contact with battery fluid. Rinse well with plenty of water if you get battery fluid on your skin. Seek medical attention if you get battery fluid in your eyes. Fluid leaking from the battery can cause irritation or burns.

• The power tool is not intended to be used by persons (children or adults) with any form of functional disorder or by persons who do not have sufficient experience or know-how on how to use it, in so far as they have not received instructions concerning the use of the tool from someone who is responsible for their safety.

• Keep children under supervision to make sure they do not play with the power tool.

• Read these instructions carefully before use.

• Check that the mains voltage corresponds to the rated voltage on the type plate.

• Do not charge the battery in the rain or in damp or wet areas.

• The ambient temperature must not exceed 40° C. Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight.

• Batteries that are defective or damaged, or that cannot be charged, must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

• A damaged cord or plug must be replaced by an authorized service centre or qualified person to ensure safe use. Repairs must only be carried out by qualified personnel.

• Only use batteries recommended by the manufacturer.

• Keep the surface of the charger free from dust and dirt.

• Insert the battery in the charger with the correct polarity.

• Always remove the battery before doing any work on the tool.

• Cover the battery terminals when the battery is not in the tool, in order to avoid a short-circuit.

• Do not discard batteries with household waste, in a fire or in water.

• Do not knock or open the battery.

• Never allow the battery to become completely discharged. Charge the battery regularly if it is not being used for a long time.
  Special safety instructions

• Keep your hands and the rest of your body away from the bar. Never attempt to clear the bar when the tool is running. Do not try to hold material still with your hands or your body. Check that the battery has been removed from the power tool before removing material that has fastened. A moment of inattention can result in serious personal injury.

• Switch off the tool and wait until it all moving parts have completely stopped before moving it. Hold and carry the power tool with the handle.

• Transport and store the power tool with supplied guard fitted.

• Failure to follow all the instructions and safety instructions can result in the risk of electric shock and/or serious personal injury.

• Hold the power tool by the insulated grips when working in areas where it could come into contact with concealed electrical cables. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the power tool to also become live – risk of electric shock.

• Pay attention to the surroundings. Remove fallen branches before cutting new ones. Keep the work area clean.

• Keep other people, especially children, and pets at least 15 metres away from the work area.

• Wear a helmet, ear protection, safety glasses and safety gloves.

• Wear a dust filter mask if the work produces a lot of dust.

• Do not wear loose-fitting clothes, jewellery, or watches etc. that can fasten in moving parts. Wear long trousers.

• Never use the power tool from a ladder, tree or another unstable place.

• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. Always use the shoulder strap for optimum distribution of the weight.

• Wear sturdy, non-slip shoes.

• Do not expose the power tool to rain or moisture.

• Do not use the power tool closer than 10 metres to power lines.

• Pay attention to the branch being cut and to the ground, to avoid stumbling over previously cut branches.

• Tiredness makes it difficult to handle the power tool safely. Rest for 30 minutes after working for 60 minutes.

•  Always wear gloves when handling the hedge trimmer.• Do not use the power tool in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Electrical appliances produce sparks, which can ignite dust and fumes.

• Do not use the power tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.

  Remaining risks
  Even if the power tool is used in accordance with the instructions it is impossible to rule out all risk factors. The following are potential risks that may be incurred as a result of the type and design of the tool.

• Damage to ears (if effective ear protection is not worn).

• Vibration injuries (if the tool is used for long periods, or is not handled and maintained correctly).

WARNING: The power tool produces an electromagnetic field when in use. This field can in some circumstances affect active or passive medical implants. If you have a medical implant you should consult your doctor and/or the manufacturer of the medical implant before using the tool to reduce the risk of serious or fatal personal injury.

General safety instructions for usage

IMPORTANT: Read these instructions carefully before use, and familiarise yourself with the controls on the tool and how they are used.

• Hold the power tool firmly with both hands.
• Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with the power tool.
• Do not work if you cannot see properly, or in bad light. Only use the power tool in daylight, or in good artificial lighting.
• Pay attention to the chain on the hedge trimmer.
• Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. Never use the power tool from a ladder, tree or another unstable place.
• Keep children, onlookers and animals at least 75 metres away from the power tool when in use.
• Always wear heavy-duty safety gloves when handling the bar.

Always wear ear protection.

The declared vibration value, which has been measured by a standardized test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure.
WARNING: The actual vibration level when using power tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used. It is, therefore, necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start- up time).

USE

Applications
The hedge trimmer is intended for trimming bushes and small trees and hedges in private gardens. It is not intended for professional use. The hedge trimmer must only be used for the purpose for which it is intended. All other use is considered to be unsuitable.

Adjusting the length of the handle

1. Hold one end of the telescopic handle and unscrew the lock sleeve.
2. Pull out the telescopic handle to the required length.
3. Tighten the lock sleeve firmly.

Inserting the battery

1. Hold the handle on the hedge trimmer with one hand and hold the battery in the other.
2. Press the battery’s lock button with your thumb.
3. Press in the battery all the way into the battery compartment.
4. Release the battery lock button.

Fitting the shoulder strap
Fasten the shoulder strap by pressing the spring unit on the strap into the lock. Release the shoulder strap by pressing the springs on the sides of the spring unit.

Lubricating the bar
Make sure to lubricate the bar on the hedge trimmer with a low viscosity oil before and after use.

Use

NOTE: Adjust the handle to a suitable length for the work before starting.

1. Place the shoulder strap over your shoulder and adjust the length.
2. Hold the handle with one hand and hold the front handle with the other hand.
3. Press the start inhibitor.
4. Start and stop the hedge trimmer with the power switch.

Adjusting the angle of the trimmer head
The angle of the trimmer head can be adjusted from +60° to -60°.

1. Hold the socket with one hand and press the angle adjuster lock with your thumb.
2. Turn the head up to 60° up or down, align a hole in the socket to a hole in the trimmer head and release the angle adjuster lock. The lock clicks in place and locks the trimmer head. There are a total of 6 positions and the angle can be adjusted 120°.

To think about when trimming

• Do not work with the handle at more than a 60° angle to the ground – risk of personal injury as a result of falling branches. Pay attention to the branch being cut and to the ground, to avoid stumbling over previously cut branches.
• The bar will stop if you attempt to cut very thick branches. In which case, first remove the battery and then release the branch that has fastened in the bar.

MAINTENANCE

Clean the hedge trimmer bar after use and lubricate it with a low viscosity oil.

Storage

• Store the hedge trimmer in a dry place out of the reach of children.
• Store the hedge trimmer with supplied guard fitted.
