SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING

Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery- operated (cordless) power tool.

WORK AREA SAFBY

• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

ELECTRICAL SAFBY

• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never mod ify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs w ith ear thed (grounded) power tools. Unmod ified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electr ic shock.

• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your
  body is earthed or grounded.

• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet cond itions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pu lling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

• When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

• If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

PERSONAL SAFETY

• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.

• Protective equipment such as dust masks,
  non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

• Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools w ith your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may resu lt in
  personal injury.

• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing jewel gallery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewe llery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

• If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

• Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

POWER TOOL USE AND CARE

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
• Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
• Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

SERVICE

Have your power tools serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that safety of the power tool is maintained.

BELT SANDER AND DRUM SANDER SAFETY WARNINGS

• Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, because the belt may contact its own cord. Cutting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool
  “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.

VIBRATION AND NOISE REDUCTION

• To reduce the impact of noise and vibration emission, limit the time of operation, use low-vibration and low-noise operating modes as well as wear personal protective equipment.
• Take the following points into account to minimise the vibration and noise exposure risks:
  • Only use the product as intended by its design and these instructions.
  • Ensure that the product is in good condition and well maintained.
  • Use correct attachments for the product and ensure they in good condition.
  • Keep tight grip on the handles/gripping surface.
  • Maintain this product in accordance with these instructions and keep it well lubricated (where appropriate).
  • Plan your work schedule to spread any high vibration tool use across a longer period of time.

Wear ear protection

The declared values for vibration and noise have been measured in accordance with a standard method, and can be used for comparisons between products. The declared values can also be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure. Measured values have been determined in accordance with EN 62841-2-4:2014.

WARNING!

Vibration and noise during actual use can deviate from the declared values, depending on how the product is used and the condition of the workpiece. Suitable precautions for users must be based on the actual conditions, taking into account all parts of the operating cycle, such as the time when the tool is switched off and the idling time, in addition to the time when the power switch is pressed.

ASSEMBLY

CHOOSING SANDING BELTS

There are different grades of sanding belts: Coarse, medium coarse and fine (sold separately). Use coarse sanding belts for rough work, medium belts to smooth the workpiece, and fine sanding belts to finish off. Try them out on a spare piece to see which grade is suitable for the job.

FITTING SANDING BELTS

Switch off the sander and pull out the plug before adjusting, replacing accessories, cleaning and/or maintenance.

1. Select a suitable grade of sanding belt.
2. Press the sanding arm against a hard object, for example a spare piece of wood.
3. Put the sanding belt on the rollers. Check that the arrow on the inside of the sanding belt points in the same direction as the arrow on the sander.
4. Press the lever to tension the sanding belt.

WARNING!

• Do not use worn, damaged or clogged sanding belts.
• Do not use the same sanding belt for metal and wood. Metal particles embedded in the sanding belt will damage the surface of the wood.

ADJUSTING THE ANGLE OF THE SANDING ARM

NOTE:

Check that the power switch is switched off before plugging in the plug.

1.  Switch off the sander, pull out the plug and wa it until all moving pa rts have complete ly stopped.

2. Undo the angle locking screw anticlockwise.

3. Move the sanding arm to the required angle.

4. Tighten the screw clockwise to the lock the arm at the required angle.

DUST EXTRACTION

It is recommended to always use a dust extractor. Use dust extraction during prolonged use.

1. Fit the dust extractor port on the sander and check that it is firmly in place.

2. Connect a dust extractor hose or dust bag with an inner diameter of 32 mm to the dust extractor port.

HOW TO USE

USE

The sander is intended for sanding flat surfaces indoors and outdoors, rounding off corners and edges, deburring, removing paint, welding spatter and rust, and for sharpening knives and scissors etc. All other use is considered to be unsuitable. Never use the sander for anything other than the purpose for which it is intended.

STARTING/STOPPING

1. Starting – press the power switch.
2. Stopping- release the power switch.
3. For continuous operation, press the lock button on the power switch when the power switch is pressed.
4. Press and release the power switch to release the lock button.

NOl’E:
Always lift the sander off the workpiece before starting/stopping it.

ADJUSTING THE SPEED
Set the required speed with the speed control.

MAINTENANCE

NOl’E:
Pull out the plug before adjusting and/or maintenance.

CLEANING
Do not use strong detergents or solvents, this can damage the plastic parts. Remove any dirt and carbon dust etc. with a clean cloth.

LUBRICATION
All the bearings in the sander are permanently lubricated. No other lubrication is normally required.
