SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Check the maximum load capacity of the roof of your car before loading on the roof.
  • The maximum load of the kayak holder is 68 kg. This load may never be exceeded.
  • The kayak holder must have a minimum spacing of 61 cm.
  • The kayak holder must not be modified in any way.
  • Check the kayak holder with regard to damage before use. The kayak holder must not be used if damaged.
  • The kayak holder is only intended to transport kayaks. No other objects may be transported with this product.
  • The kayak must be correctly secured in the kayak holder before transport.
  • The fore and aft of the kayak must be anchored to the car before transport.
  • Make regular stops while driving and check the kayak holder and straps, and retighten if necessary. This is particularly important when driving over long distances.
  • Remember that the total height increases with a load on the roof.
  • Store the kayak holder in a dry and cool place when not in use.

INSTALLATION

  1.  Align the base plate (K) on the roof rack.

  2. Insert the screws (B) through the holes in the base plate (K) and through the springs (C), washers (D) and the holes in the mounting bracket (E).

  3. Screw on the hand nuts on the screws and tighten to secure the J-cradle on the roof rack.

  4. Fit the other J-cradle in the same way.

USE

Loading and securing
  1. Load, together with a helper, the kayak in the holder on the car roof and centre the kayak over both J-cradles. The cockpit should be turned towards you.

  2. Thread the free end of strap (H) around the top end of the J-cradle’s long arm. Tension the strap and place both of its free ends and the end with the buckle over the kayak. Pull the free end of the strap downwards until the buckle is halfway up on the kayak. Thread the free end of the strap downwards and under the roof rack.

  3.  Press on the buckle and insert the free end of the strap into the buckle. Pull the free end downwards to tension the strap. Gather and secure any surplus strap, so that the strap does not flap in the wind when driving. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other J-cradle.

  4. Secure the fore and aft of the kayak to the car with straps (I) and (J).

  5. Thread the strap’s (I) eye end through the rescue fitting or the handle.

  6. Thread the end with the buckle through the eye and tighten the buckle to tension the strap.

  7.  Secure the S-hook in the eye of the strap.

  8. Hook the S-hook in the vehicle’s towing hitch or other suitable securing point.

    WARNING! Never attach the hook to a fragile part of the car, for example, a plastic part.

  9. Push on the strap’s (I) buckle and thread the free end of the strap (J) through the buckle. Pull the free end to tension the strap.

    NOTE: Tension the fore and aft straps equally. Gather and secure any surplus strap, so that the straps do not flap in the wind when driving.

  10. Tug on the kayak using moderate force to check its sits securely in the holder. Adjust the strap tension if necessary.
