Plan Your Setup
When you’re planning where to install light strips, make sure to place the Controller in an easily accessible area. Additionally, if you choose to hide the Controller, pair your light strip with your device before installing it, as you’ll need to access the back of the Controller during the pairing process if pairing with NFC. NOTE: Each Controller can power up to 10M of the strip at full brightness. Extending it further will decrease the maximum brightness. -
Prepare Your Surface
The light strips should only be installed indoors and on a flat surface. Clean your surface to be free of dust and moisture. Tape is NOT recommended for textured, porous, popcorn and ceiling surfaces (ie. wallpaper or brick walls). -
Attach Your Lightstrip
Attach your light strip to the Controller, and the Controller to the PSU
(3.1). Peel the tape back and firmly stick it onto your desired surface
(3.2). Press firmly along the length of the strip to ensure a strong adhesion
(3.3). Plug the strip into the power and you’re ready to pair! For full pairing instructions, skip to page.8.
Cutting a Lightstrip?
If your light strip needs to be shortened, make sure the male end of the strip is already connected to the Controller (3.1). Once connected, cut your strip from the other end (female side). Make sure to do so along the indicated cut line to avoid damaging your strip.
NOTE: Once cut, the strip cannot be connected back together, so ensure you’ve measured properly before cutting.

Problems & Solutions
Reset Options
A Power Cycle
Power cycle your lights by unplugging them from power and then plugging them
back in.
B Toggle Your Bluetooth
Try toggling your Bluetooth off and back on. No luck? Try restarting the app
you’re using to control your lights, or restarting your entire device.
C Check Your Switch
Make sure that your lights weren’t turned off by a physical switch such as a
power bar. If this is the case, this would make them powered down and
unresponsive.
D Perform a Hard Reset
The Nanoleaf Essentials devices only have a factory reset mechanism. This
resets all user pairing and network information. This is performed differently
between bulbs and light strips. “Turn off/on” refers to physically powering
on/off the device with a switch.
For Your Bulb
- Turn your bulb off for 3 seconds, then turn it back on for no more than 3 seconds.
- Repeat this for a total of S cycles.
- If successful, the bulb will flash red 3 times.
For Your Lightstrip
- Hold the Power and Brighten (+) buttons together for 5 seconds.
- If successful, the strip will flash white 3 times.
