Placement

Smoke alarms should be installed on all floors of the home and placed adjacent to sleeping areas as you are most vulnerable to smoke and fire when you are asleep. If you are charging electric devices in the bedroom it is recommended to install a smoke alarm in the bedroom. It is also recommended to install a smoke alarm adjacent to the kitchen area, but avoid placing it inside the kitchen or the bathroom.

When using multiple smoke alarms in your home the distance between them should not be greater than 12 meters. A smoke alarm can cover an area of maximum 60 m2. (source: www.brandskyddsforeningen.se →“I hemmet” → “Brandvarnare”.

Do not install smoke alarms in the following areas

  • In places such as kitchens or near fireplaces and hot water heaters where the occurrence of smoke is normal. Use specialized smoke alarms for these areas.

  • In areas with high humidity, like bathrooms or areas near dishwashers or washing machines. Install at least 3 m away from these areas.

  • Near air returns, heating or cooling supply vents. Install at least 2 m away from these utilities as the circulating air can blow smoke away from the detector.

  • In rooms where temperatures may fall below 0 °C or rise above 40 °C.

  • In very dusty or dirty areas, like a garage. Dirt particles may interfere with smoke alarm operation.

Optimal placement

Since smoke and heat spread horizontally after rising to the ceiling, installing the alarm middle of the ceiling is optimal. If you cannot install the alarm in the middle of the ceiling, the distance from the upper wall corner should be at least 50 cm.

If the ceiling is slanting, the alarm needs to be installed at least 50 cm away (100 cm recommended) from the highest ceiling point in the room.

Note! If you cannot install the smoke alarm in the ceiling it can be installed on a wall, but it will take longer for the smoke alarm to react to potential danger. Placement needs to be 15 cm from the ceiling.

Batteries and mounting

Separate the bracket from the smoke alarm by twisting it. Hold the bracket against the surface where you want to mount the alarm and use a pencil to mark 2 drill points. Drill 2 holes (Ø5 mm), insert the plastic plugs into the holes and attach the bracket by using the included screws.

Insert the batteries into the smoke alarm’s battery compartments, mind the polarity. The 9 V battery is used to power the smoke alarm function, while the AA batteries are for the wireless connection between multiple smoke alarms.

Note! When inserting the batteries, make sure to press down the red safety latches and keep them depressed using the batteries. Both red safety latches need to be pressed down by the batteries for the smoke alarm to attach to the mounting plate. Test the smoke alarm before attaching it to the mounting bracket. Press and hold the TEST button (2) on the smoke alarm for up to 5 seconds. The indactor lights (1, 4) turn on and the siren sounds.

Twist the smoke alarm into place while pressing it against the bracket.
The alarm indicator (1) flashes every 40 seconds to indicate the smoke alarm is turned on. The alarm emits a short sound and the LED indicator lights up every 60 seconds to indicate that the battery level is running low.

Pairing

Decide which smoke alarm you want to serve as the main alarm in your wireless system. The main smoke alarm ensures that all secondary alarms activate in the event of smoke detection in your home. You should place the main smoke alarm as centrally as possible within your home. This placement allows it to effectively communicate with and activate all secondary smoke alarms that are wirelessly paired throughout your home. It is important that you wear ear protection when pairing multiple smoke alarms to not damage your hearing.

  1. Press the Learn button (3) twice on the main smoke alarm.
The Wireless indicator (4) lights up green.

  2. Press the Learn button (3) once on the secondary smoke alarm you want to pair wirelessly to the main alarm. The Wireless indicator (4) lights up red.
Repeat this step for all secondary smoke alarms.

  3. Press and hold the Test button (2) on the main smoke alarm until all the secondary alarms and the main smoke alarm activate, indicated by flashing alarm indicators (1) and sounding alarms.

  4. The wireless connection is completed when all the smoke alarms (main and secondary) sound. Release the Test button (2).

Important! You can only have one main smoke alarm installed in a wireless smoke alarm system. Adding additional main detectors can result in a failure to receive proper fire and smoke alerts. It is crucial to maintain the system with a single main smoke alarm for optimal functionality and fire detection capability.

Factory reset

To disconnect a smoke alarm from a wireless alarm system and reset it to factory settings:

  1. Press the Learn button (3) twice. The wireless indicator (4) lights up green.
  2. Press and hold the Test button (2) until the smoke alarm sounds.

The smoke alarm is now reset.

Maintenance

Testing the smoke alarms

Test the alarms weekly and upon return from vacation or when no one has been at home for several days. Do not use an open flame to test the alarm as it can ignite and damage the alarm or your home.

Stand at an arm’s length from the unit when testing. Press and hold the Test button (2) on the main smoke alarm until all the alarms sound. Locate all the smoke alarms in your home and make sure the alarm indicator (1) lights up and a sound is emitted from each alarm.

Cleaning

Clean the smoke alarm to remove dust and dirt at least once per month. Use a vacuum cleaner with the soft brush attachment, vacuum all sides and covers of the smoke alarm. Make sure all the vents are free of dust and dirt.
Do not remove the cover to clean inside the smoke alarm as this will affect the functions of the alarm and void warranty.
Test the alarm after cleaning and check its wireless status.

Safety information

Only use the Test button to test the smoke alarm. Do not use any other test method. Test the smoke alarm weekly to ensure proper operation.
Keep the products away from moisture, water, high temperatures, and direct and strong sunlight.
Open windows or fan the air around the smoke alarm to disperse the smoke particles and to avoid the smoke alarm starting again after a false alarm.
Observe and follow all local and national electrical and building codes for installation.
This smoke alarm is designed to be used for a single-family household only. In multifamily buildings, each individual living unit should have its own smoke alarms.
Do not install in non-residential buildings. This smoke alarm is not a substitute for a complete alarm system.
A smoke alarm can only detect smoke or combustion particles in the air. It does do not detect flame or gas.
