Bell-556 TX Door Intercom Accessories Radio Converter

Operating and assembly instructions

RADIO CONVERTER

MOD. BELL-556 TX

Please read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for
future reference!

With this radio converter you can add a radio chime to your wired bell. When
the radio converter receives a signal (potential-free or 3-12V AC/DC signal), it
forwards it by radio to a doorbell receiver from the BELL or FG series. The
required 3 volt lithium battery (CR2032) is already installed. If necessary,
remove the battery isolation strip before putting it into operation.
This radio converter is designed for indoor operation only.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

If the Bell-556 TX detects a signal on its connection lines, it sends a radio
signal to the receiver and the green transmission control LED lights up briefly.
The Bell-556 TX is equipped with battery monitoring and indicates an empty
battery by the red battery control LED flashing.

LEGEND

SCOPE OF DELIVERY

1x BELL-556 TX

CONNECTION (POTENTIAL-FREE)

A potential-free (simple bell push) can be connected directly to the converter.
The push-button is connected to the black connection line (1 S) and one of the
two red connection lines (1 R). The second red connection line remains free
and should be insulated. 1x operating and assembly instructions

CONNECTION (SIGNAL VOLTAGE)

The radio converter can be activated with a signal voltage which must not be
below 3V or above 12V. It can be activated with direct and alternating
voltage.

The signal voltage is connected to the two red connection lines (1 R), no
polarity is required. This way it is possible to connect the radio converter in
parallel to a wired gong, as shown in this example:

Note: Please insulate the black wire so that it does not cause a short circuit.

Note: The radio converter cannot be connected to a purely battery- operated
gong (without transformer). In this case, the existing chime must be removed
and the radio converter connected as described in the section “Connection
(potential-free)”.

MOUNTING

Due to the small size, it is possible to place the radio converter in the housing
of the existing bell.

Make sure that the antenna (7) should be as straight as possible and point
upwards in order to achieve the best possible range.

The antenna (7) must not be shortened or extended. When mounting, take
care not to damage the insulation of the antenna to prevent short circuits.

TUNING IN TO RADIO CHIME RECEIVER

The unit is delivered with a factory-set transmission code and must be
taught-in to the radio chime receiver. To do this, bring the radio chime
receiver into the learning mode (see instructions for the radio chime receiver)
and then activate the radio converter by ringing or briefly pressing the code/
melody button (4). The receiver plays a melody as confirmation.

Note: You need a bent paper clip or a biro to press the code/melody button.

Note: If your radio chime receiver activates in the meantime without reason,
it is possible that a similar device in the immediate vicinity is being operated
with the same transmission code. In this case you should change the code of
the radio converter and reset the radio chime receiver to factory settings as
described in the following paragraph and relearn it.

To change the radio converter’s transmission code, press and hold the code/
melody button (4) for approx. 5 seconds. The radio converter indicates the
code change by the transmission control LED (5) lighting up for approx. 2
seconds. Afterwards a new, random transmission code is set.

For information on how to reset the radio chime receiver to the factory
setting, please refer to the instructions for the radio chime receiver. Then
carry out the programming procedure as described above.

Note: The green transmission control LED (5) lights up as soon as the Bell-556
TX transmits a radio signal.

SETTING THE RING TONE

The ring tone is selected with the code/melody button (4). To change the
tones, press the button briefly and the radio chime will play a different
melody. Wait until the melody has been played completely. Then repeat the
process until you hear the desired melody. The last melody played is
automatically saved and will be played from now on when the bell rings.

Note: With the selector switch (2) 8 further tones can be selected. However,
this only works with receivers from the BELL-500 series, such as the BELL-510
RX. For all models of the BELL-200 series, the switch must be in position “A”,
otherwise no melody will be played on the radio chime receiver!

CHANGING THE BATTERY

The radio converter indicates via the battery control LED (6) when the
battery must be replaced. In this case, the battery control LED flashes red.

Remove the empty battery and insert a new battery of type CR 2032 with the
correct polarity (negative pole pointing towards the circuit board).

The transmission code and melody settings are retained even if the battery
has been removed from the radio converter for a longer period of time

TROUBLESHOOTING & USER INSTRUCTIONS

Problem:

Bell does not sound when the bell is pressed.
Possible cause:
1. Units out of radio range
2. The units are not correctly tuned in
3. The battery in the transmitter must be replaced
4. Selector switch (2) is in position B (see p. 24).

Recommended action:
1. reduce the distance between the units
2. Repeat the teach-in procedure.
3. Replace the battery.
4. set the selector switch to position A (see p. 24)
