m-e BELL-501 TX Radio Doorbell Transmitter

Radio doorbell transmitter models:
BELL-501 TX (1-family variant)
BELL-502 TX (2-family variant)
BELL-503 TX (3-family variant)

Thank you for purchasing this wireless doorbell transmitter from the Bell series.
Please read the instruction manual carefully and keep it for future use.
This radio doorbell transmitter can be operated with battery or an external power supply. If an external power supply is connected, the nameplate illumination switches on automatically in the dark.

ATTENTION: If the radio doorbell transmitter is operated via an external power supply, batteries must not be used!

When the doorbell button is pressed, a radio signal is sent and the taught-in receiver(s) plays the set melody.
Depending on the receiver model, the range is between 100 and 500 metres under optimal conditions. The range is influenced by various factors, e.g. metal or UPVC door frames, walls or other devices operating on the same frequency. All receivers of the Bell series are compatible with this transmitter.

MOUNTING

Note: The mounting location should be as even as possible to avoid distortion of the housing during mounting. If an external power supply is used, the connection cables at the mounting location should be in the centre of the lower third behind the bell push.

Opening the housing

Open the bell push button by unscrewing the housing screws (4) with a suitable screwdriver (Torx T10) and then carefully lift off the front housing. Make sure that the name plate(s) do not fall out.
Put the front housing and the silicone seal with the name plate(s) aside so that they are not damaged during further assembly.

Mounting

You can use the rear casing as a drilling template. Align it at the mounting location. Use a spirit level and mark the drill holes with a suitable pencil.
Drill the holes in the wall at the marked locations using a 6mm masonry drill bit and insert one of the supplied wall plugs into each hole.

Note: If you are not mounting the bell push button on a stone wall, use other mounting material accordingly (not included).
If an external power supply is to be connected, lead the connecting cable from behind through the cable entry (12) into the housing.
Use the screws supplied to fix the rear housing to the wall.

Connection of external power supply

**** The connection of the external power supply can be made at the terminals (10) as shown in figures 2. You do not need to pay attention to polarity.
Simply connect the two cables of the power supply on the far left and far right to the connection terminals. The terminals are each double.
Use a power supply unit / transformer with 8 – 12 V AC or DC.

Battery operation

If the radio doorbell transmitter is to be operated with batteries, insert them according to the polarity markings in the battery compartment.

Caution: If the radio doorbell transmitter is operated via an external power supply, no batteries may be inserted!

Note: In battery operation, the nameplate illumination is not active as this would discharge the batteries very quickly.

Closing the housing

Insert the silicone seal with the nameplate(s) into the front casing and place both together on the assembled rear casing. Screw both enclosure parts together with the enclosure screws.

Note: You should only close the housing after the receiver(s) has/have beentuned in and the desired melody has been set.

COMMISSIONING

After connecting the power supply or inserting the batteries, the radio doorbell transmitter is ready for operation and can be taught-in to the receiver(s).

Teaching the receiver
Put the receiver to be taught into the learning mode as described in its instructions. Usually, the code button on the receiver must be pressed for a few seconds and the receiver emits a short tone as soon as the learning mode is activated. Then press the ring button on the transmitter to which the receiver is to respond. Successful learning is indicated by playing one of the receiver’s melodies.

Setting the ring tone
After the receiver(s) has/have been tuned in, the ring tone can be set. With the BELL system, the ringtone is set on the transmitter. This makes it possible to identify different transmitters (e.g. one transmitter each at the front and back door) by different melodies.
With the BELL 502 TX and BELL-503 TX models, a separate ring tone can also be set for each residential party.

Press and hold the sound selection button (6) while pressing the bell button whose ring tone you want to set. The taught-in receiver plays a ring tone. Each time you press the ring button again (sound selection button still pressed simultaneously), the next ring tone is played on the receiver. Wait until the ring tone has been played before switching to the next ring tone. After the desired ring tone has been played, release the sound selection button and the tone is automatically stored.

Note: The ringtone switch (7) must be in position A (away from the connection terminal) for all receivers with only 8 ringtones.
For receivers with 16 ringtones, 8 ringtones can be selected in switch position A and 8 additional ringtones can be selected in switch position B.

Nameplate illumination
This radio doorbell transmitter is equipped with an automatic nameplate illumination which switches on automatically when it is dark and switches off again when it is bright.

Note: The nameplate illumination only works if the radio doorbell transmitter is operated with an external power supply.

Replacing the inscription field
The inscription field can be easily replaced. As shown in Fig. 1, carefully use a suitable flat-blade screwdriver on the side of the nameplate and lever it forward without damaging the housing. Underneath is the inscription field, which can now be easily replaced.

The dimensions for the inscription field:

  • BELL-501 TX: 52mm x 57mm
