MEEC TOOLS 242-167 Flip Over Crosscut/mitre/circular ripsaw
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read the Operating Instructions carefully before use!
General
- Do not use the saw for grooving, rabbeting or routing.
- Do not use to cut items larger than the dimensions specified under Capacity in the section Technical Data.
- Make sure that the work area is free from shavings and sawdust.
- The saw must be placed/fitted on a stable surface so that it cannot move during sawing.
- The saw must not be used for cutting round timber or logs.
- Never lock the upper guard in its open position, except when changing blades as described below.
- Never remove the lower guard unless the saw is being used as a circular saw.
- Take care not to trap fingers or other parts of the body when angling the worktable.
- Lock the top of the saw in lowered position when moving the saw.
- Never use the guards to lift or carry the saw
Saw blade
- Make sure that the spindle and flanges for fitting the saw blade are always clean.
- Never use high-speed steel blades.
- Never use grinding or cutting discs.
- Always use the correct type of saw blade for the actual model. For use only on wood, aluminium or similar materials.
- Never use saw blades if the maximum speed is lower than the maximum rotation speed of the tool.
- Never use blades that are bent or have teeth missing.
- Never use oversized blades.
- Check that the orientation of the blade corresponds with the direction of rotation of the motor.
- Never use a saw blade that is thicker than the cleaver blade.
- Always wear protective gloves when handling the saw blade.
- Never place your hands near the saw blade or try to remove material from the work area while the blade is rotating.
Before use
- Round workpieces must be secured with screw clamps or the like, as the rotating blade can cause them to spin.
- Check that the workpiece does not contain nails, screws or other objects that can damage the blade.
- Check that all lock knobs and screws are properly tightened and that the sawing table is properly secured (cannot turn, vibrate or tip over) before each use. This is particularly important when the table has been turned round or upside down.
- Check that the guard can be moved freely without jamming and that the closure mechanism works correctly before each use. Never use the saw if this is not the case.
- Check before each use that the saw blade cannot come into contact with any part of the worktable, the frame or the cleaver blade.
- Check that the top of the saw is properly secured before cutting bevels.
- If using a parallel fence, check that this is in line with the saw blade.
Sawing
- Never use the saw if the blade guards or cleaver blade are incorrectly fitted.
- Use extra supports (table, trestles or similar) for long workpieces so that they do not fall off the worktable when sawing.
- Never saw workpieces that are so small that they cannot be properly clamped.
- Never saw freehand. Always secure the workpiece before starting to saw.
- Check that the spindle lock is not activated before starting the saw.
- The saw blade must not be in contact with the workpiece or any other object when you start the saw.
- Use a stick or block to push the workpiece into the saw blade if the distance between the blade and the parallel fence is less than 12 cm.
- Do not push the workpiece in too quickly when the saw is used as a table circular saw.
- If the blade gets stuck, it can cause the workpiece to violently kick back towards the user. For this reason, never stand directly behind the saw blade when sawing
- Wear a face mask if excessive amounts of dust are generated or when sawing materials that are a health hazard.
- Never stop the saw blade by pressing down on the saw, or by pressing on the side of the blade
- The saw blade will continue to run for a short while after the machine has been switched off.

ASSEMBLY
Assembly and preparation
Check that all parts are included and that none of them are damaged. If this
is not the case, contact the dealer immediately.
The saw can be mounted on the supplied legs (24) or secured to a bench without
the supporting legs.
Mounting on legs
Fit the four legs to the corners of the base (21) using the retaining screws
(23). Tighten the screws and check the legs are secure.
If the saw is unsteady on the surface, the feet (25) can be extended or
shortened by screwing them clockwise or anti-clockwise (seen from above).
Mounting the base on a worktable
- The base can be secured to a worktable using bolts (not supplied) in the four holes (a) as illustrated.
- Use bolts, nuts and washers that can properly secure the saw and that will not come loose as a result of vibrations when the saw is in use.
- Check that the surface can bear the weight of the saw and the workpieces before mounting.
Fitting the dust bag
- Fit a dust bag to the dust extraction nozzle (3), or connect the dust extraction nozzle to an extraction system.
- Check that it seals tightly. Use a locking clip if necessary.
Remember to disconnect any extraction hose before turning the worktable (17) over (see section Setup for circular saw below).
Setting maximum cutting depth
- Press the lock button (30), lower the top of the saw (4) completely and hold it down.
- Turn the adjustment bolt (b) using a spanner until the blade (12) edge protrudes below the table surface, but is not in contact with other parts.
Depth stop
The depth stop (c) can be released or connected as necessary. Release it for crosscut/mitre cutting on thin and wide workpieces and when using the saw for circular sawing. Connect it for crosscut/mitre cutting on thick workpieces.
- Turn the depth stop clockwise to release it.
- Turn the depth stop anti-clockwise to connect it.
- Plug in to a mains socket and switch on the power.
Setup for circular sawing
The saw is preconfigured for use as a crosscut/mitre saw. If it is going to be used as a table circular saw, it must be adjusted as described below.
-
Check that the turntable (16) is set to 0° (saw blade parallel to the base) and is properly secured using the adjustment screws (18) on the fence guide (15).
-
Check that the top of the saw is properly secured using the bevel setting handle (1).
-
Loosen the adjustment knob (8) on the cleaver blade (5) and tip it forward so that it is level with the saw blade. Open the movable blade guard (13) fully and press the cleaver blade sideways so that it is outside the saw blade. Release the blade guard and tighten the adjustment knob.
-
Pull out the lock pin (d) and turn it 90° clockwise.
-
Release the depth stop.
-
Hold the lock pin, lower the top of the saw fully, and release the lock pin. Lock the top in the lowered position. Check that it is securely locked. If the top cannot be locked in the lowered position, turn the depth adjustment knob (2) several turns clockwise.
-
Press the release handle (e) down and press the table slowly and carefully downwards so that it turns 180° on its hinges (20) and locks when the underside is facing upwards.
-
Remove the lower blade guard (27) by unscrewing the retaining screw (f).
-
Press the button (g) on the blade guard (h) and hold, place the blade guard on the tip of the cleaver blade (i) and release the button. Check that the blade guard is properly secured.
Fitting the parallel fence
Fit the parallel fence (j) on the guide rail (19) and secure it in the
required position (can be fitted on either side of the saw blade) using the
clamping screw (m) at the end of the parallel fence.
Slacken the adjusting screw (k) at the back of the parallel fence (l) and
adjust the parallel fence so that its back edge is level with the front edge
of the saw blade. Tighten the adjustingscrew again.
Make sure the parallel fence is parallel with the saw blade. If it is not,
slacken the adjustment screw to the right of the clamping screw, adjust the
parallel fence until it is parallel with the saw blade, and then tighten the
adjustment screw again.
The parallel fence has a bulge at the end of one side. This bulge must be
turned in towards the saw blade when sawing small workpieces, and away from
the saw blade for other sawing. The parallel fence can be turned in the
required direction by fully unscrewing the adjusting screw, removing the
parallel fence, and then fitting it again with the bulge turned in the right
direction. Tighten the adjusting screw again.
Adjusting bevel angle
Slacken the bevel setting handle (under the angled saw table) and angle the saw blade using the depth adjustment knob to the required angle in relation to the worktable. Tighten bevel adjustment knob.
Fitting the bevel guide
Place the bevel guide in the outer slot on the worktable to the left or right of the saw blade, set it to the required angle and lock by tightening the bolt.
Adjusting the cutting depth
Turn the depth adjustment knob to set the cutting depth. The saw blade must be a maximum of 2-3 mm higher than the top of the workpiece. Check that the saw blade does not catch on any of the other parts of the saw when the top part is lowered down.
Settings for crosscut/mitre sawing
-
If the saw is going to be used as a crosscut/mitre saw after it has been used as a table circular saw, adjust it as described below.
-
Remove bevel angle and parallel fence, if used.
-
Press in the button on the blade guard and hold, take off the blade guard from the tip of the cleaver blade, and release the button.
-
Fit the lower blade guard by tightening the retaining screw
-
Press the release handle down and press the table slowly and carefully downwards until it turns 180° on its hinges (20) and is locked secure with the underside facing downwards.
-
Hold the top of the saw. Pull out the lock pin and turn it 90° clockwise. Hold the lock pin, slowly lift the top of the saw and release the lock pin. Lock the top part in the raised position.
-
Connect the depth stop.
-
Hold the movable blade guard and release the adjustment knob for the cleaver blade. Push it to the left so that it is no longer outside the saw blade. Lower the movable blade guard fully and angle the cleaver blade up into place. Tighten the adjustment knob.
Fitting the side rail
The side rails (n) are useful when sawing thin and thick workpieces. Fit them in place using the connector rods (o) and tighten the screws (p). Remove when sawing wide or low workpieces.
Adjusting mitre angle
Unscrew the two adjustment screws on the fence guide and turn the turntable to the required angle (up to 45° to left or right). Screw tight the adjustment screws.
Adjusting bevel angle
Slacken the bevel adjustment knob and tip the top part of the saw to the left until the required angle is obtained in relation to the worktable. Tighten bevel adjustment knob.
Fitting screw clamp
Place the screw clamp (q) in one of the two sockets (14) on the fence guide and secure with the retaining screw (r).
Adjusting the cutting depth
Turn the depth adjustment knob to set the cutting depth. Check that the saw blade does not come into contact with any other part of the saw when lowering the top, especially if the saw is set for mitre and/or bevel angle.
Crosscut/mitre sawing
- Set the required mitre angle, bevel angle and cutting depth.
- Place the workpiece against the fence guide and the worktable and secure with the screw clamp if necessary (if it is fitted).
- Push the lock button on the handle (7) to the left. Press the safety trigger (29) and the on/off switch (28) on the handle and allow the saw to reach full speed before cutting the workpiece.
- Lower the saw top onto the workpiece.
- Release the on/off switch when the cut is finished and wait until the blade has completely stopped before lifting the saw blade. The saw guard closes automatically when you lift the top part of the saw.
Table circular sawing
-
Set the blade angle and bevel guide as required.
-
Place the workpiece on the saw table.
-
Switch on the saw with the switch (26) and allow the saw to reach full speed.
-
Feed in the workpiece with a steady, sliding movement. Use the bevel guide or a feeding stick/block. Do not press with the saw.
-
Stop the saw with the red button when you have finished sawing.
General advice about sawing
-
Do not try to press the saw against one of the sides.
-
Release the switch immediately if the saw blade fastens in the workpiece.
-
Empty the dust bag (if fitted) when necessary.
-
When sawing thin sheet metal, place a piece of wood under the workpiece (s) to avoid deforming the sheet. Remember to use a saw blade suitable for sawing in metal.
-
Lubricate the point of sawing with lubricant when cutting metal. Use paraffin oil for aluminium.
Changing the saw blade
The saw must be set up for crosscut/mitre sawing (as described above).
-
Lift the top part of the saw to its full extent.
-
Turn the saw blade by hand, while pressing in the spindle lock (6) until the saw blade is locked.
-
Remove the lock nut (11) on the blade spindle using a spanner, lift the blade guard and remove the outer flange (10) and saw blade. Slacken the retaining bolt clockwise. Do not dispose of the used saw blade in household waste. Dispose of it according to local authority regulations.
-
Remove any shavings and sawdust from around the spindle and flanges
-
Fit the new saw blade, outer flange and lock nut. Tighten the retaining bolt by turning it anticlockwise
-
Check that the orientation of the blade corresponds with the direction of rotation of the motor.
-
Release the blade guard and spindle lock.
-
Turn the saw blade by hand to check that it rotates freely.
Check that the gap between the saw blade and cleaver blade is 5-6 mm. If the gap is less or more, adjust the cleaver blade as follows:
- Loosen the adjustment knob on the cleaver blade.
- Then loosen the adjustment screw (t) on the cleaver blade and adjust the cleaver blade so that the gap between the saw blade and cleaver blade is 5 6 mm
- Tighten the adjustment screw and then tighten the adjustment knob again.
Adjusting angle gauge
The angle gauge for the saw is set at the factory but can become inaccurate if the saw is subjected to heavy use. Set the gauge as follows:
The mitre angle gauge is set by lowering down the top part of the saw and checking that the blade is at right angles to the fence guide using a right- angled triangle. Loosen the four adjustment bolts on the mitre angle gauge under the worktable, set the angle gauge to 0° and then retighten the bolts.
The bevel angle gauge is set by lowering the top part of the saw and checking that the blade is at right angles to the worktable using a right-angled triangle. Loosen the bevel adjustment knob. Turn the adjustment bolt 0° (u) until the gauge on the back of the saw shows 0°. Now angle the top part of the saw to 45° and turn the adjustment bolt for 45° (v) until the gauge shows 45°.
MAINTENANCE
- Remove sawdust, dust and dirt using a vacuum cleaner, compressed air or a brush. Check that the motor vents are not blocked.
- Clean the saw by wiping the outer parts with a damp cloth.
- Lubricate all moving parts with a light lubricating oil.
- Never use strong or corrosive detergents on the saw blade. They can damage the light metal parts on the saw and affect its functionality.
- Replace the carbon bru shes (9) if they are worn.
Transport
Before lifting or transporting the saw, lower the top part and lock in this
position by pressing in the lock pin fully.
The saw can be moved using the carrying handles (22). Note that the saw is
very heavy. Use the correct lifting technique.
