ATLTERNATIVE
As said before, we cannot account for the large variety of different style
mailboxes on the market, But this could be an alternative for mailboxes with
different style flag holders. This may not work with your mailbox, so before
purchasing check to see it you can use one of these methods. We do not include
or supply hardware for this alternative method, but we do give you part
numbers that you can purchase at your local hardware store.
We have picked up these hardware pieces from our local Lowe’s in Madison
What you will need is:
- 1pc ¼-20 x ¾” Pan Head Bolt (Hillman #35215)
- 1pc ¼ -20 Nyloc locking nut (Hillman #883182)
- 1pc ¼”ID ½”OD Nylon Washer (Hillman#881545)
- 2pcs .343x.885x.062 Nylon washer (Hillman#884555)
- ¼” drill bit – If there is not a hole already
- 7/16” wrench
- Phillips screw driver
Steps:
- Drill a ¼” hole where you want the flag to be if there is not already a hole in the mailbox
- Take the Pan head bolt and put one of the larger washers and then the smaller washer on the bolt. The small washer should fit inside the ½” hole in the flag so it doesn’t flop around.
- Take the flag and place over the ½” plastic washer and then put the other large washer over the bolt (this washer helps keep the flag from rubbing on the mailbox
- Put it all through the ¼” hole that you drilled and place the Nyloc nut on the bolt inside the mailbox and tighten with a 7/16 wrench and Phillips screw driver
If you want to put a mailbox flag stop on it you can get a larger Nylon spacer (Hillman#880444) and use another ¼ Pan Head Bolt along with the ¼” nyloc nut and place it right below the flag where you would like it to rest.
Drill a hole and then fasten it in place.
Note: If your good, you can place this so that it stops the flag when it
is up and when it comes down. We don’t have that measurement, you will just
have to try it in different places
