Description – purpose of use

LED tube T8 Extol® Light 43050; Extol® Light 43051; Extol® Light 43052 are intended to serve as a replacement for standard vacuum light tubes T8 with G13 sockets for the purpose of high energy savings (up to 70%), very long lifetime, immediate luminosity and a pleasant light. Unlike standard vacuum light tubes, LED tubes do not have a build-up current, which will be especially welcome when using backup sources of electrical energy.

  • The tubes are made from a high quality durable material, which does not reduce the quality of light and models Extol® Light 43051 and Extol® Light 43052 have in addition an aluminium heat sink.
  • In the event of a light fixture with a choke coil, to install the LED tube it is sufficient to simply remove the standard fluorescent light tube, remove the light tube starter and in its place, simply install the supplied “LED driver” and then just install the LED tube (this form of installation can be performed by any user themselves without electrical qualifications), see fig. 1.
  • In the case of a light fixture with an electronic ballast, to use the LED tube, it is necessary to disconnect the electronic ballast (this must, however, be performed by an electrician with the necessary qualifications).

WARNING
LED tubes are not protected against the damaging ingression of water, humidity and dust (IP20) and thus are intended only for use in dry indoor environments. When LED tubes are used in a wet, humid and/or dusty environment then they must be installed into a light fixture with a sufficient level of IPXY protection.

Installation of an LED tube

LIGHT FIXTURES WITH A CHOKE COIL AND STARTER INSTALLATION OF AN LED TUBE WITHOUT THE REMOVAL OF THE CHOKE COIL

On these types of light fixtures, it is possible to directly replace a standard fluorescent light tube with an LED tube. Simply remove the fluorescent tube starter with the electrical power disconnected and replace it with the supplied „LED driver“ according to the steps described in steps 1 to 8 in fig. 1. This replacement may be performed by a person without the respective electrical qualifications.

Description of steps 1-8 in fig. 1

EXTOL-43050-43051-43052-LED-Tube-FIG-1

  1. Step 1: turn off (disconnect) the power supply to the light fixture
  2. Step 2: turn the tube by  90° to the left
  3. Step 3: pull the tube out of the light fixture
  4. Step 4: turn the starter to the left and take it out of the light fixture
  5. Step 5: Insert the „LED driver“ into the light fixture and secure it in place by turning it to the right
  6. Step 6: insert the LED tube into the light fixture
  7. Step 7: Secure the LED tube in the light fixture by turning it 90° to the right
  8. Step 8: turn on the power supply to light up the LED tube To replace the LED tube, proceed according to steps 2, 3; 6, 7 and 8.

LIGHT FIXTURES WITH A CHOKE COIL AND STARTER

INSTALLATION OF AN LED TUBE WITH THE REMOVAL OF THE CHOKE COIL

  • When the tube starter and fluorescent light tube is replaced with an LED tube and LED driver then the choke coil remains installed in the light fixture, which may result in a higher power consumption and may have an effect on effectiveness, and it can also be disconnected as shown in figure 2A to 2C. However, the choke coil may only be removed by an electrician with the necessary electrical qualifications since this constitutes an alteration to the electrical part of the light fixture.
  • In this case it is a double-sided LED tube connection.

LIGHT FIXTURES WITH AN ELECTRONIC BALLAST

INSTALLATION OF AN LED TUBE WITH THE REMOVAL OF THE ELECTRONIC BALLAST
In the case of light fixtures that contain an electronic ballast, it is necessary to remove the electronic ballast prior to using the LED tube according to figure 3A to 3C (this task may, however, only be performed by a person with the necessary electrical qualifications. After removing the electronic ballast, it is no longer possible to replace the LED tube with a flu-orescent light tube. Upon disconnection of the electro-nic ballast, the LED tube is connected single-sided.

Energy labels

Pictogram meanings on the LED tube label

  • Read the user’s manual before use.
  • Dimming is impermissible.
  • Protect against the entry of water and high humidity. Can only be used in a dry environment.
  • Electrical waste symbol, see below.
  • Meets respective EU requirements.

Waste disposal

PACKAGING MATERIALS

  • Throw packaging materials into a container for the respective sorted waste.
  • According to Directive (EU) 2012/19, an unusable electrical appliance must not be thrown out with communal waste, but rather must be handed over for ecological disposal at an electrical equipment collection point because it contains components that are hazardous to the environ- ment. You can find information about electrical equipment collection points and collection conditions at your local town council office or at your vendor.
