Description – purpose of use
The Extol Premium® torque wrench is intended for tightening threaded
connections to a required torque value, to which the torque wrench is set.
The wrench enables torque to be quickly and easily set using a rotating ring.

Setting the torque
The principle of setting the torque is the same on all three torque wrench models; the setting procedure described below is described on model 8825308.
-
To set the torque by means of turning the handle, first push down on the ring (step 1, fig. 1).
-
Turn the handle to set the required torque value according to the procedure described below (step 2, fig. 1).
-
After setting the torque value, release the ring without turning the handle (step 3, fig. 1) so that the value is not reset. Releasing the ring will block the turning of the handle and thereafter it will not be possible to turn the handle.
SETTING THE DESIRED VALUE
Setting the value of 60 Nm
- Turn the handle as many times as necessary for the edge of the metal clamp to be at the level of the mark with the value of 60, whereby the value of 60 is set, when the metal clamp mark with the value of 0 is exactly in line with the central axis of the scale on the torque wrench – see fig. 2 with the mentioned value of 60 Nm.
Setting the value of 50 Nm
- Set the value of 50 Nm according to the procedure described above and then turn the handle in the direction of the number sequence on the handle 0.0-1.0-2.0 and not in the opposite direction of 9.0-8.0-7.0, which would then set the value of 49-48-47 Nm, etc.
After setting the values, do not turn the handle any more so that the original setting is not changed and then release the ring (step 3, fig. 1).
Putting on the tightening tool and setting the turning direction
- Press the middle button on the head of the ratchet and put the tightening tool („socket“) of the required size on to the drive square.
- Set the movement direction of the drive square by changing the position of the lever, which is underneath the central button on the head of the ratchet.
Method of work for the torque wrench
- Put the socket (tightening tool) on to the bolt head and start tightening the threaded joint. Slowly move the wrench in the range of 15°, and when tightening, increase the force gradually and carefully until the set tightening torque is reached. When the set torque value is reached, do not apply any further force on to the torque wrench.
ACHIEVING THE SET TORQUE VALUE
- The set torque value is reached when the handle deviates to the side on the articulated joint, which is located between the head of the torque wrench and the handle. Try out the achievement of the set torque value in advance on a suitable bolt connection.
ATTENTION
- In the event that it is not possible to use standard socket tools („sockets“) on the wrench, it is possible to use other tightening attachments. However, using attachments leads to a lengthening of the wrench (lever), and thereby also to a change in the set torque value.
- The new torque N(A) can be determined using the following calculation:
N(A) Torque value after the wrench is lengthened
N …..Set torque value on the wrench
A …..Lengthening distance (dimension from the centre of the drive square to the centre of the attachment)
B …..Lever length of the wrench (dimension from the centre of the handle of the wrench to the centre of the drive square)
ATTENTION
- Use the torque wrench at a temperature in the range from +18 to 28°C (EN ISO 6789-1). Using the wrench outside of this temperature range may lead to a reduction in accuracy due to a change in the physical properties of the materials of the wrench, which change with temperature.
- After finishing work with the torque wrench, set a low torque value at the start of the scale so that the spring of the adjustment mechanism is not exposed to a long-term load during storage. This will prevent inaccuracies in the torque settings resulting from „fatigue“ of the spring.
- If the torque wrench is not used regularly, we recommend to first perform a cycle of tightening a threaded joint at a low torque several times before using it again.
ATTENTION
- To maintain measurement accuracy, we recommend to have the torque wrench regularly calibrated at a laboratory that has accreditation for the calibration of torque tools.
Calibration is performed on a special device and every user must have it performed at their own cost for a fee. The calibration is not provided by the manufacturer or the supplier and it is not covered by the warranty conditions since this is not a product defect.
It is appropriate to perform a calibration:
- If the wrench has been used more than 5000 ×
- After it has fallen or after an inappropriate method of use
- If the wrench has not been used for a long time
Information about inappropriate handling of the torque wrench
ATTENTION
- Inappropriate use may cause damage to the torque wrench, for which it is not possible to exercise a claim for free warranty repairs and may negatively affect its accuracy.
Prevent impacts.
Do not use handle lengthening attachments.
This could result in the torque wrench being overloaded (longer lever).
Prevent collisions of any type.
Do not submerge the ratchet in oil for the purpose of lubrication.
Prevent the torque wrench from coming into contact with liquids of all types.
ATTENTION
- The torque wrench does not require any addition of lubricants, do not tamper with the internal parts of the torque wrench and do not disassemble the torque wrench. Prevent the torque wrench from coming into contact with water, oil and other liquids. For the purpose of cleaning the torque wrench, only use a clean dry textile. Do not use any degreasing agents.
- Do not overload the torque wrench.
- Do not modify the torque wrench in any way.
- If necessary, have it repaired at an authorized service center for the Extol® brand.
