WARNING: Carefully read the entire user‘s manual before using the ladder and keep it with the product so that the user can become acquainted with it. If you lend or sell the ladder to somebody, include this user‘s manual with it. Prevent this user‘s manual from being damaged. The manufacturer takes no responsibility for damages or injuries arising from use of the ladder that is in contradiction with this user‘s manual. Acquaint yourself with all the control elements and parts of the ladder and the method for safe setup and use before using it.

Installation of the base with support feet

WARNING: The new ladder is supplied in the sales package with a base with support feet that is removed. Prior to using the ladder, it is necessary to install the base with the support feet on to the ladder and to fasten it using the supplied bolts. Prior to every use of the ladder, check  that the base with the support feet is installed on the ladder and that the support feet on the sides are not missing or damaged. For safety reasons, do not use a ladder with a missing base or missing or damaged support feet and arrange its repair at an authorised service centre for the Extol® brand.

  1. Put the ladder down on the ground and into the grooves on both ladder tubes insert the base with the support feet so that the holes on the base are located in alignment with the holes in the ladder tubes (fig. 2, step 1).
  2. Then secure the base to each ladder tube using a bolt so that the bolt head is on the side of the ladder where the locks are on both sides of the rungs (fig. 2, step 2).
  3. Firmly tighten both bolts using appropriate installation tools.

Extending the telescopic ladder

  1. Stand the ladder in the retracted state on a stable firm and even surface and lean it against a wall.

  2. Remove the Velcro zip strap that is securing the ladder (fig. 3).

  3. Pull out the end (support) parts of the tubes one after the other, so that an audible lock-in sound is made in the extended position (fig. 4).

  4. Visually inspect the ladder, and before every use, check that the ladder is undamaged and safe. The list of items that need to be inspected before use is provided in the text below. Do not use a damaged ladder.

  5. Put your foot on the base with the support feet so that the ladder is not lifted off the ground while being extended. The ladder will start to gradually extend out (become longer) starting with the first rung from the rung with the red locks (fig. 5a), i.e. third rung. Lift the rung up until an audible „click“ is made at the lock on both sides of the rung (fig. 5b). Then check that the lock has engaged on both sides of the rung.

    • When the lock on the rung is engaged, a visible locked padlock symbol is visible on the rung (fig. 6a).
    • When the lock on the rung is not engaged (the rung is not secured in place), a visible unlocked padlock symbol is visible on the rung (fig. 6b).

  6. Gradually extend the ladder out to the required height rung after rung according to the procedure described in point 5, whilst always checking that the lock has engaged on both sides of the extended rung.
    ATTENTION

    • It is not possible to reach the required ladder height by sliding out the top rung, otherwise the extended parts of the ladder will gradually, spontaneously slide into the extend parts of the ladder to the retracted position. Therefore, it is necessary to extend the ladder out by gradually extending out the individual rungs starting with the third rung to the required height, which will secure (lock) the individual rungs in the extended position (fig. 7).
  7. After extending the ladder to the required length, lean the ladder against a stable wall at an angle in the range from 65° – 75°, according to fig. 8.

  8. When using the ladder, adhere to the safety instructions provided later in the text and in chapter V.

THE LIST OF ITEMS THAT SHOUlD BE CHECKED BEFOrE USING THE LADDER – ATTENTION MUST BE PAID TO THESE ITEMS DURING A REGULAR INSPECTION:

  • Check that the rails/spreaders (braces) are not bent, sagging, twisted, dented, crack, corroded or rotten.
  • Check that at the connection points with other components, the rails/spreaders are in good condition.
  • Check that the fastening elements (rivets, etc.) are not loose or corroded.
  • Check that the locking indicators are in working order and visible.
  • Check the connecting components for cracks or other defects, e.g. there must be no damage to any of the components, there must be no relative movement between the pins and the rungs/steps.
  • Check that no rungs/steps are missing, that they are not loose, overly worn out, corroded or damaged.
  • Check that no non-slip feet are missing, that they are not loose, overly worn out, corroded or damaged.
  • Check that the whole ladder is not dirty (e.g. dirty materials, mud, paint, oil or lubricants).
  • Check that the latches are not damaged or corroded, and that they function correctly.

If the results of any of the aforementioned inspections are not entirely satisfactory, do not use the ladder

Retracting the telescopic ladder

  1. Stand the ladder on a firm, even surface and lean it against a wall.

  2. Grasp the ladder by the side tubes in the location of the red buttons and simultaneously slide both buttons according to the arrows to the position of the open padlock, whilst keeping your fingers away from the area of the rungs to prevent them from being pinched when the ladder is retracted. By simultaneously sliding both red buttons to the open padlock position, the automatic retraction of the ladder into the retracted state will occur.

  3. The end (support) parts of the tube will not automatically slide in when the ladder is retracted and must be unlocked and manually inserted individually (fig. 10).

  4. Then secure the retracted ladder against extending out by winding the Velcro strap around it.
