Description – purpose of use

The Extol Premium® torque wrench is intended for tightening threaded connections to a required torque value, which the torque wrench is set to.
The wrench allows the torque to be set quickly and easily using a rotating ring.

Setting the torque

The principle of setting the torque is the same on all three models of torque wrench; the setup procedure described below is described on model 8825308.

  1. To set the torque by turning the handle, first press down on the ring (step 1, fig. 1).
  2. Turn the handle to set the desired torque according to the procedure described below (step 2, fig. 1).
  3. After setting the torque value, release the ring without turning the handle (step 3, fig. 1) so that the value is not reset. Releasing the ring blocks the rotation of the handle and after that it will not be possible to turn the handle.
  • Turn the handle as many times as necessary for the edge of the metal clamp to be level with the mark with the value 60, whereby the value of 60 is set, when the metal clamp and the mark with the value 0 are exactly in line with the center axis of the scale on the torque wrench – see fig. 2 with the mentioned value of 60 Nm.

  • Set the value to 50 Nm according to the procedure described above and then turn the handle in the direction of the number sequence on the handle 0.0-1.0-2.0 and not in the opposite direction of 9.0-8.0-7.0, which would then set the value to 49-48-47 Nm etc.

Putting on the tightening tool and setting the turning direction

  1.  Press the middle button on the head of the ratchet and put the tightening tool („socket“) of the required size on to the drive square.
  2. Set the movement direction of the drive square by changing the position of the lever, which is underneath the central button on the head of the ratchet.

Method of work for the torque wrench

  • Put the socket (tightening tool) on to the bolt head and start tightening the threaded joint. Slowly move the wrench in the range of 15°, and when tightening, increase the force gradually and carefully until the set tightening torque is reached. When the set
torque value is reached, do not apply any further force on to the torque wrench.

ACHIEVING THE SET TORQUE VALUE

  • The set torque value is reached when the handle deviates to the side on the articulated joint, which is located between the head of the torque wrench and the handle. Try out the achievement of the set torque value in advance on a suitable bolt connection.

ATTENTION

  • In cases where it is not possible to use standard socket tools on the wrench, it is possible to use other tightening tools. However, the use of accessories leads to an extension of the wrench (lever), and thus also to a change in the set torque value.
  • The new torque N(A) can be determined using the following calculation:
    Working method of the torque
wrenchN(A) Torque value after the wrench is extended
N …..Set torque on the wrench
A …..Extension distance (measurement from the center of the drive frame to the center of the bracket)
B …..Wrench lever length (measurement from the center of the wrench handle to the center of the drive shaft)

ATTENTION

  • Use the torque wrench at a temperature in the range from +18 to 28°C (EN ISO 6789-1). Using the wrench outside of this temperature range may result in a decrease in accuracy due to a change in the physical properties of the wrench material, which change with temperature.
  • After finishing work with the torque wrench, set a low torque value at the beginning of the scale so that the spring of the adjustment mechanism is not subjected to a long-term load during storage. This will prevent inaccuracies in the torque settings due to “fatigue” of the spring.
  • If the torque wrench is not used regularly, we recommend that you first perform a cycle of tightening a low-torque threaded coupling several times before using it again.

ATTENTION

  • To maintain measurement accuracy, we recommend that the torque wrench is regularly calibrated at a laboratory that has accreditation for the calibration of torque tools.
Calibration is performed on a special device and each user must have it performed at their own expense for a fee. The calibration is not provided by the manufacturer or supplier and is not covered by the warranty terms as this is not a product defect.

It is advisable to perform a calibration:

  • If the wrench has been used more than 5000 ×
  • After it has been dropped or after improper use
  • If the wrench has not been used for a long time

Information on improper handling of the torque wrench

ATTENTION

  • Improper use can cause damage to the torque wrench, for which it is not possible to claim free warranty repairs, and can adversely affect its accuracy.
