WORK AREA SAFETY

  • Do not use this machine in explosive atmospheres, in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Electric machines create sparks that can ignite dust or fumes.
  • When you are working on streets, roads or nearby areas, be careful not to endanger traffic.
  • Keep curious people, children or animals away while operating this machine. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
  • Keep the work area clean and work only with sufficient lighting. Cluttered and dark areas can cause accidents.

MACHINE MAINTENANCE, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE

CHARGER CONTROL LIGHTS

STATE

RED LED GREEN LED EXPLANATION AND ACTIONS
ON OFF The charger is connected to the mains and is ready for use; there is

no battery pack in the charger.
OFF| Fast blinking| Low current safety load
As the battery voltage is less than 15V, the charger is in soft charge mode, the charging current is less than 0.5A. This can maximise the life of the battery.
OFF| Slow blinking| High current safety load
As the battery voltage is above 15V, the charger is in fast charging mode, the charging current is at 2.3-2.4A.
OFF| ON| The battery is charged and ready for use
Action: Remove the battery pack from the charger. Disconnect the charger from the main supply.
Fast blinking| OFF| Fault: Loading is no longer possible. The battery may be defective.
Action: Never charge a defective battery pack. Remove the battery pack from the charger.
Slow blinking| OFF| Temperature failure
The battery is too hot or too cold (below 40ºF).
Action: Remove the battery pack and keep it at room temperature (approx.
68ºF) for 3 hours.

START UP

  1. Remove the blade protection.
  2. To switch on, press the safety lock (4) and the on/off switch (6) at the same time. Do not push the tip into the hedge.
  3. To switch off, release the on/off switch (6).
  4. After switching off, wait until the blade is stopped and remove the battery pack from the hedge trimmer.
  5. Fit the blade guard.

USE

  • Do not force the hedge trimmer through heavy shrubbery. This can cause the blades to bind and slow down. If the blades slow down, reduce the pace.

  • Do not try to cut stems or twigs that are larger than 18mm thick. Use a non-powered hand saw or pruning saw to trim large stems.

  • If desired, you can use a string to help you level the hedge level. Decide how high you want the hedge to be.
Then stretch a piece of string along the hedge at this height. Trim the hedge just above this guideline of string.

  • If the blades do become jammed, stop the motor, allow the blades to stop and remove the battery pack before attempting to remove the obstruction.

  • Wear gloves when trimming thorny or prickly growth.

  • When trimming new growth, use a wide sweeping action, so that the stems are fed directly into the cutting blade. Older growth will have thicker stems and will be trimmed more easily using a sawing movement.

  • If blade jams on any electrical cord or line. Do not touch the blade! It can become electrically live and very dangerous. Continue to hold the hedge trimmer by the insulated rear handle or carefully lay it down, away from you in a safe manner. Disconnect the electrical service to the damaged line or cord before attempting to free the blade from the line or cord.

  • Clear the area to be cut before each use. Remove all objects, such as wires, lights, wires or cords, that may become entangled in the cutting blade and create a risk of serious personal injury.

  • Avoid the use of solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics tend to be damaged by various types of solvents and can be damaged by their use. Use a clean cloth to remove dirt, oil, grease, etc.

  • Use only genuine GREENCUT spare parts to maintain the machine. The use of other parts may create a hazard or cause damage to the product.

MAINTENANCE

Good maintenance will extend the life of the machine. Prolonged or constant use may require more intensive maintenance for the machine to continue to function properly.
ATTENTION: Make sure the engine is completely shut down before performing any maintenance or repair. This will eliminate any potential risk.

BLADE CARE

  • Inspect the blades periodically for damage and wear. Always use replacement blades specified by the manufacturer.
  • For easier operation and longer blade life, lubricate the blade before and after each use. Before lubricating, remove the battery and place the hedge trimmer on a flat surface. Apply lightweight machine oil along the edge of the top blade.
  • From time to time, when using the machine for a long period of time, you should oil it. Before oiling, stop the hedge trimmer; remove battery pack, then oil.
  • Sharpen the blade every so often. To do this, remove battery pack from hedge trimmer. Clamp blade assembly with a screw and sharpen the exposed cutting surface of each blade tooth with a 203mm (8 inch) smooth round file, 6.4mm (1/4 inch) or 5.6mm (7/32 inch) diameter. Be sure to retain the original angle of tooth when filing.

CLEANING THE HEDGE TRIMMER

  • Examine the hedge trimmer frequently to ensure that all parts are intact and securely fastened. Make sure all screws and latches are firmly tightened to avoid the risk of serious personal injury.
  • Keep the hedge trimmer clean. To do this, clean the unit with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use strong detergents on the plastic housing or handle. They can be damaged by certain aromatic oils such as pine and lemon, and by solvents such as kerosene. Use a small brush or the air discharge from a small vacuum cleaner brush to clean the air vents on the battery pack and motor housing. Keep the air vents free of obstructions.
