  • Intensive sunlight, small reflectivity of the target surface or large temperature differences may reduce measurement accuracy.

Features

The digital laser distance meter Extol® Premium 8820041 is intended for the measurement of distance, area and volume. The device enables the adding or subtracting of the measured length, continual measurement with display of the minimum and maximum values and the calculation of the length of a cathetus of a right angle triangle using the Pythagorean theorem that cannot be easily measured (Pythagorean function – indirect measurement by calculation from measured values)Extol 8820041 Digital laser distance

Button functions

ATTENTION
Before using the device, read the entire user‘s manual, and if you loan or sell the product to anybody, also include the user‘s manual with it so that they can learn about it. Prevent this user‘s manual from being damaged.

Button Function
ON/DIST Turning on the device/measurement mode

Hold down the button to turn it on. The device is active when it projects a laser point on to the measured surface (flashing laser beam symbol on the display).

To measure the length in the device‘s active mode, press the button. For continuous measurement, hold down the button and the device will continuously measure while the device is being moved. It will regularly record the currently measured length and minimum and maximum values while measuring.

CLEAR OFF| Resetting measured values / Manually turning off the device

To reset the values or to cancel the set functions, short press the button. To manually turn the device off, hold down the button until it turns off. The device is equipped with an automatic shut off function, after approximately 3 minutes of inactivity it turns off.

| Display backlight / Setting default measurement positions

To turn on the display backlight or to turn this function off, hold down this button (for approximately 2 seconds).Pressing and releasing the button will set the default measurement position, where length is measured from the front of the device or where the measured length includes the length of the device, see respective symbol on the display and fig.1 showing the use of this function.

TIME| Setting the start measurement time / Addition of lengths function

Hold down the button until the text „SEC“ and a clock symbol appear on the display. Every time this button is pressed will add 5 seconds of time at the end of which length will be measured. Releasing this button will start the countdown. After the length is measured and when this button is pressed thereafter, the symbo„+“ will appear on the display. After another length measurement, the first and second measured length is shown on the display. By pressing the „ON/DIST“ button, the display will show the first and second measured length and their resulting sum at the bottom of the display.

UNITS| Selecting length units / Subtraction of lengths function

Pressing and holding down the button it is possible to subtract/add one decimal place in the metre units and always with another press and hold to switch between the length units m/ft/ftin/in.The deduction of lengths function is based on the same sequence of steps as the addition function described above.

| Calculation of area/volume function

When the button  is pressed for the first time, a symbol of an area in quadratic units of area appears on the display and its flashing side will be measured by pressing the „ON/DIST“ button.       After measuring the first length, the second side will be flashing on he area symbol, the length of which will be measured by pressing the „ON/

DIST“ button again. After measuring the second side length of the area, the resulting area value will appear at the bottom of the display, mathematically expressed as the product of the sides.

Pressing the button    twice will show a cube symbol with a flashing side in cubic units of volume, where in order to calculate the volume it is necessary to consecu- tively measure the lengths of all three sides in the same way as when calculating area. The resulting volume is the product of three side lengths calculated at the bottom of the display.

---|---
| Pythagorean function (applies only to right angle triangles because the device calculates length using the Pythagorean theorem)

Pressing the button        for the first time will show a symbol of a right angle triangle with a flashing hypotenuse – which is the longest side opposite the right angle of the triangle. Press the „ON/DIST“ button to measure the length of the hypotenuse.

•  ATTENTION

The measured length of the hypotenuse must not be shorter than the measu-

red length of the flashing adjacent cathetus, because the hypotenuse must be the longest side. If this happens, the „info“ symbol and the number 206 will appear on the display. After measuring the second side of the triangle (cathetus), press the „ON/DIST“ button and the calculated length of the second cathetus will appear at the bottom of the screen.

Pressing the button    twice will show a double right angle triangle, with which the device after sequentially measuring sides 1, 2 and 3 in the above described manner, will calculate the unknown length of the fourth side.Extol

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE DISPLAY / REPLACING BATTERIES

  • There is a battery symbol y  on the display which  indicates the battery power level by the number of lines. If there are no lines inside the battery symbol, replace the batteries with new ones.
To replace the batteries, tilt open the cover on the rear side of the device, take out the flat batteries and based on the indicated polarity, insert two new 1.5 V AAA-type batteries into the battery compartment. Then close the cover.

  • If a number appears on the display during use, check that the operating temperature is not too low or high, whether the reflective beam is too weak due to an insufficiently reflective surface, and in the case of the Pythagorean function whether the measured length of the hypotenuse is shorter than the cathetus, etc.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE DEVICE

  • Prevent the device from being used by children, persons under the influence of substances affecting attention or mentally unfit persons. Ensure that children do not play with the device.
  • The device contains a laser. Do not alter the power of the laser in any way as this could result in injury due to exposure to laser radiation.
  • Do not look directly into the laser beam because the laser may irreparably damage eye sight. It is not possible to use sunglasses with UV filters or so-called laser glasses as protection against damage by laser radiation.
  • Do not point the laser beam into optical devices (into bino-culars, etc.) and do not observe it using optical equipment.
  • Do not point the laser beam at other people or animals.
  • Do not use the device in an environment where there is a explosion or fire hazard or in a very dusty environment.
  • Do not point the laser beam at surfaces with a highly reflexive surface, this could result in the laser beam being reflected and hit the eyes of people or animals.
  • The device may interfere with sensitive devices, e.g. pacemakers, listening devices, etc. Therefore, do not use the device in the vicinity of medical equipment, in aircraft or in the vicinity of petrol stations or other places with a fire or explosion hazard.
  • The device comes with optical lenses in the opening of the transmitter and receiver of the laser beam. Be especially careful when handling the device so as not to damage it.
  • Use only batteries recommended by the manufacturer to power the device.

References on the label and symbols Storage

Cleaning and maintenance

  • Clean the surface of the device using a damp textile. For cleaning, do not use solvents or other aggressive cleaning products as this would damage the plastic covers.
  • Prevent liquid from entering into the device.. Never submerge the device in water.
  • Keep the optical lenses on the transmitter and receiver clean and protect them against damage.

Storage

  • Store the device in a dry place, out of the reach of children. Protect the device against moisture, entry of water and unfavourable climatic conditions.
  • When not using the device for an extended period of time, remove the batteries.

Waste disposal

PACKAGING MATERIALS
  • Throw packaging materials into a container for the respective sorted waste.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

  • Do not dispose of unserviceable commodities with household waste, but dispose of them in an envi-ronmentally safe manner. According to Directive 2012/19 EU, electric appliances must not be thrown out with household waste, but handed over for ecological disposal at an electrical equipment disposal point. You can find information about collection points and collection conditions at your local town council office.

BATTERIES

  • Pursuant to 2006/66 EC, unusable batteries must not be thrown out with household waste or into the environ-ment, rather take them to a battery collection point.
