SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING
Read all warnings, safety instructions, and other instructions carefully before use. Failure to follow all the instructions and safety instructions can result in the risk of electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury. Save these instructions and safety instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in all the warnings below refers to mains-powered (corded) or battery­powered (cordless) power tools.

WORK AREA

• Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
• Do not use the power tool in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
• Keep children and onlookers at a safe distance when using the power tool. You can easily lose control of the power tool if you are distracted.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

• Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
• Do not expose the power tool to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.

PERSONAL SAFETY

• Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with the power tool. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.
• Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses, non-slip safety shoes, a safety helmet, and ear protection, depending on the type of power tool and usage.
• Avoid accidental starting. Check that the power switch is in the off position before inserting the battery or lifting/carrying the tool. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains supply when the switch is in the on position, increases the risk of accidents.
• Always check that Allen keys/spanners etc. have been removed from the power tool before it is started. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the power tool can cause personal injury.
• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This will ensure you have better control over the tool in unexpected situations.
• Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewelry, and long hair can get caught in moving parts.

USE AND CARE

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The power tool does the job better and safer when used at the rate for which it was designed.

• Do not use the power tool if it cannot be started and stopped with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.

• Remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidentally starting the power tool.

• Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions,
  to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced people.

• Keep the power tool properly maintained. Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before being used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.

• Use the power tool, accessories, etc. in accordance with these instructions.  Pay attention to the actual working conditions and the job to be done.  It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those for which they are intended to be used.

BATTERY

• Only charge the battery with the intended charger. A charger intended for one type of battery can result in a fire risk if used with another type of battery.
• Only use power tools with the specified batteries. The use of other batteries can cause personal injury or the risk of fire.
• When the battery is not in use keep it away from metal objects like paperclips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other metal objects that can short circuit the terminals. Short-circuiting can damage the battery or cause personal injury, burns, and/or fire.
• Acid can leak from the battery if the battery has been damaged. Avoid contact with battery fluid. If you get battery fluid on your skin, rinse immediately in plenty of fresh water. Seek medical attention if you get battery fluid in your eyes. Battery fluid can cause skin irritation and/or burns.

SERVICE
The power tool must only be serviced by qualified service personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Keep your hands and the rest of your body away from moving parts on the power tool. Never attempt to remove cuttings or hold branches that are to be cut when the bar is in motion. First switch off the power tool and then remove cuttings that have jammed in the bar. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.
• Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle and when the bar has stopped. Always put the guard on the bar when the tool is not in use. Handle the power tool with care to avoid the risk of cut injuries.
• Hold the power tool by the insulated grips when working in areas where it could come into contact with concealed electrical cables or its own power cord. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the power tool to also become live – the risk of electric shock.

HOW TO USE

• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance.
• If possible, avoid working on wet and slippery surfaces and under all circumstances on uneven or steep terrain that does not provide sufficient stability.
• Never run with the power tool. Pay attention to the surface and watch out for obstacles.
• Make an assessment of the terrain to be worked on and take all necessary precautions for your own safety, especially on slopes or on uneven, slippery, or unstable ground.
• There may be local regulations for the minimum age of persons allowed to use the machine.
• The power tool must only be used by one person at a time.
• Do not use the power tool if, while working, you cannot hold it with both hands or cannot stand firmly on both feet. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar w ith the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool.
• Do not use the power tool when other persons, especially children, or pets, are in the vicinity.
• Never use the power tool if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
• Do not use the power tool unless all the safety devices are correctly fitted and working.
• Always follow all the safety instructions and use the cutting technique that is most appropriate.
• Only use the power tool for its intended purpose. Any other user can be dangerous and result in serious damage to the tool.
• Only use the power tool in daylight, or in good artificial lighting.

HANDLING THE ELECTRIC HEDGE TRIMMER

• Do as follows when handling or transporting the power tool:
  • Switch off the engine. Wa it until the blades have stopped, and then remove the battery from the battery compartment.
  • On ly hold the power too by the handle and w ith the blades pointing backward.
• If the power tool is transported in a vehicle it must be placed so that it does not put the safety of other people at risk. Secure it firmly.
• Check that the power switch is in the off position before inserting the battery. Connecting a tool to the power supply when the switch is in the on position increases the risk of accidents.
• Only charge the battery with the intended charger. A charger intended for one type of battery can result in a fire risk if used with another type of battery.
• Only use the power tool with the specified batteries. The use of other batteries can cause personal injury or the risk of fire.

REMAINING RISKS

• Even if appropriate safety regulations are adhered to and safety devices are used, it is not possible to eliminate all risks. The following risks remain.
  • Vibration injuries (if the product is used for long periods, or is not handled and maintained correctly).
  • Personal injury and/or material damage as a result of defective accessories, or kickback resulting from concealed objects.
  • Personal injury and/or material damage as a result of falling or ejected objects.
  • During prolonged use, the vibrations can cause circulation problems in the hands. Keep your body and especially your hands warm. Wear gloves. Stop working immediately and seek medical attention if you experience numbness, itching, tingling, pain if your skin changes color, or loss of sensitivity in your fingers, hands or wrists. You are more at risk at low temperatures.

WARNING!
The product produces an electromagnetic field when in use. This field can in some circumstances affect active or passive medical implants. If you have a medical implant you should consult your doctor and/or the manufacturer of the medical implant before using the product to reduce the risk of serious or fatal personal injury.

REDUCTION OF NOISE AND VIBRATIONS

• To reduce noise and vibrations when in use, limit the time the product is used, and use low-power/vibration and noise mode and suitable safety equipment.
• Take the following precautions to minimize the risks of exposure to vibrations and/or noise.
  • Only use the product in accordance with these instructions.
  • Make sure that the product is in good condition.
  • Use sharp accessories in good condition and suitable for the purpose.
  • Keep a firm grip on the handles/grips.
  • Maintain and lubricate the product in accordance with these instructions.
  • Plan the work so that exposure to heavy vibrations is spread over several days.

Always wear ear protection
The declared vibration value, which has been measured by a standardized test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The measurement values have been determined in accordance with EN 60745-2-15:2009, EN ISO 11680-1 :2011. EN ISO 10517:2009.

WARNING!
The actual vibration level when using power tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used. It is therefore necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start-up time).

ASSEMBLY

INSERTION AND REMOVAL OF BATTERY

1. Put in the battery by fitting it in the battery compartment and pushing it until it clicks in place.
2. Remove the battery by pressing the battery catch and pulling out the battery from the compartment at the same time.

REMOVING THE MACHINE HEAD
Before the extension tube can be fitted it is necessary to remove the machine head from the handle. Place the handle part with the machine head on a level and stable surface, release the coupling and remove the machine head.

INCREASING THE LENGTH OF THE HANDLE
The reach of the product can be increased by fitting an extension tube between the machine head and the handle.

1. Align the slots on the outside of the coupling on the handle and on the inside of the coupling on the extension tube with each other.
2. Push the extension tube onto the handle.
3. Push up the coupling sleeve and turn it clockwise until it is firmly tightened.
4. Align the slots on the outside of the coupling on the extension tube and on the inside of the coupling on the machine head with each other.
5. Push the machine head onto the extension tube.
6. Push down the coupling sleeve and turn it clockwise until it is firmly tightened.

WARNING
Check at regular intervals that the extension couplings are well tightened and have not begun to unscrew.

SHOULDER STRAP
You must be able to quickly remove the shoulder strap from the product in an emergency. Follow the instructions below to familiarise yourself with the quick release of the strap clip before starting to work.

1. Put the shoulder strap around your left shoulder.
2. Fasten the snap hook in the strap attachment on the product.
3. Hold the product firmly with one hand and press both sides of the strap clip to uncouple the shoulder strap.

WARNING
Risk of personal injury. If the shoulder strap cannot be quickly released properly during an accident this can result in serious personal injury.

Use

Intended use
The hedge trimmer is only intended for trimming hedges, bushes and ornamental plants and only in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer. The hedge trimmer is only intended for use in private gardens.

CHARGING THE BATTERY
The battery must be charged before using for the first time, after which it must be charged as soon as the performance of the product is reduced. The battery can get hot when charging. This is quite normal.

1. To charge the battery, remove it from the product and put it in the charger.
2. Fit the battery carefully in the charger­do not use force. There is only one way the battery fits in the charger.
3. Check that the battery is correctly inserted in the charger.
4. Plug the charger into a power point and put the power switch on the charger in the ON position.

IMPORTANT:

The recommended battery temperature when charging is 24°C and the permissible temperature is o to 40°C. If the temperature of the battery cells is below or over the permissible temperature range the charger will not charge the battery.

BEFORE STARTING THE PRODUCT

1. Insert the battery in the battery compartment.
2. Remove the guard.
3. Make sure that the blade is not touching anything.

STARTING/SWITCHING OFF

1. To reduce the risk of accidental starting the power switch has a start inhibitor. Press back the start inhibitor with your thumb and press the power switch at the same time.
2. Release the start inhibitor.
3. Release the power switch to switch off. FIG. 4

WARNING!

• Both switches must be activated to start and run the product. The product switches off if one of the two switches is released.
• Release the switch immediately if the bar is blocked during work, or if the product gets caught among the branches.
• Never attempt to lock either switch in the ON position.

ANGLE ADJUSTMENT
Adjust the required angle of the machine head by pressing in the catch and adjusting the machine head to the required position.

CUTTING

• Trim the top of the hedge first. The bar should be held at an angle (up to 15°) in relation to the hedge, so that the tips of the blade are pointing in somewhat towards the hedge. This produces the best trimming results.
• A string can be stretched at the required height along the length of the hedge to help get a straight line. Trim just above the string.
• Hold the bar at the required angle and move it slowly and smoothly along the trimming line.
• The bar cuts on both sides, so it can be moved either to the left or right.
• Trim the sides of the hedge from below and up. This ensures smoother sides, in that thinner branches do not bend down when trimming up and cuttings do not fall down into the untrimmed parts of the hedge.
• Watch out when trimming so that the blades do not fasten in stones, a fence or other foreign objects – risk of damaging the blades.

Best trimming season
Hedges that lose their leaves should be trimmed from June to October, evergreen hedges should be trimmed in April and August, while conifer hedges and other quick-growing hedges can be trimmed every seven weeks from May.

MAINTENANCE

IMPORTANT:
Remove the battery from the product before cleaning and maintenance. Unplug the charger from the power point before cleaning.

• Regular cleaning and some simple maintenance is necessary to ensure problem-free functionality and long useful life.
• Measures after each use:
  • The bar should be cleaned and lightly lubricated with oil after use.
  • Clean the ventilation openings on the product with a soft brush or dry cloth.
  • The product can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use a detergent that contains solvents or corrosive or abrasive additives – the risk of damaging the surface of the product.
  • Remove solid deposits with a hard brush.
  • Check that all the switches are unobstructed.

STORAGE

• Clean the product thoroughly so that all dust and dirt are removed.
• Lubricate the blades.
• Store the product in a dry, protected place out of the reach of children.

NOTE:
The supplied bar guard must always be fitted during transport and storage.
