SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING!
Read all warnings, safety instructions and other instructions. Failure to follow all the instructions and safety instructions can result in the risk of electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury. Save these instructions and safety instructions for future reference.

WORK AREA

• Keep the work area clean and well lit. Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
• Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gas or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
• Keep children and onlookers at a safe distance when using power tools. You can lose control of the tool if you are distracted.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

• The plug on the power tool must match the power point. Never modify the plug in any way. Never use an adapter with earthed power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets reduce the risk of electric shock.
• Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.
• Be careful with the power cord. Never use the power cord to carry or pull the tool, or to pull out the plug from the power point. Keep the power cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or tangled power cords increase the risk of electric shock.
• If using the tool outdoors, only use an extension cord approved for outdoor use. Cords intended for outdoor use reduce the risk of electric shock.
• If it is absolutely necessary to use power tools in damp conditions, use a mains connection protected by a residual current device (RDC). Using an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

PERSONAL SAFETY

• Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the
  influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.

• Use personal safety equipment. Depending on the type of tool and how it is used, safety equipment such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmets and ear protection reduce the risk of personal injury.

• Avoid accidental starting. Make sure the power switch is in the OFF position before inserting the battery or lifting/carrying the tool. Carrying a power tool with your
  finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains when the switch is in the ON position, increases the risk of accidents and injuries.

• Remove adjuster keys/spanners before switching on the power tool. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the tool can cause personal injury.

• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This ensures better control over the power tool in unexpected situations.

• Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewellery and long hair can get caught in moving parts.

• If dust extraction and dust collection equipment is available, this should be connected and used correctly. The use of such equipment can reduce the risk of dust-related problems.

• Do not allow the fact that you are used to working with similar tools cause you to become over-confident and to disregard the safety instructions for the tool. A moment of inattention or carelessness can result in serious personal injury.

USING AND LOOKING AFTER POWER TOOLS

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The tool does the job better and safer when used at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired .
• Pull out the plug and/or remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidently starting the power tool.
• Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced persons.
• Keep the power tool properly maintained. Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before being used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, accessories and bits etc., in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the actual working conditions and the work that is to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those for which they are intended to be used.
• Keep handles and grips clean, dry and free from oil and grease. Greasy handles and grips make it difficult to hold the tool.

SERVICE

• The power tool must only be serviced by qualified personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.

SAFBY INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRINDING, STEEL BRUSHING, POLISHING AND CUTTING

• The product is intended for polishing. Read all warnings, safety instructions and other instructions. Failure to follow all the instructions below can result in the risk of electric shock, fire and/ or serious personal injury.
• The product is not recommended for grinding, steel brushing, or cutting. Do not use the product for anything other than its intended purpose – risk of personal injury and/or material damage.
• Only use accessories recommended by the manufacturer. Even if an accessory can be fitted on the product, there is no guarantee that it is safe to use.
• Only use accessories with at least the same rated speed as the product. Accessories that rotate faster than their rated speed can shatter and cause personal injury.
• Never use accessories with an external diameter or thickness larger than what the product is intended for. Using accessories of the incorrect size will make the product difficult to handle and cause the safety devices to malfunction.
• Only use accessories with the correct size and shape of centre hole to fit on the product. An incorrect size and shape of centre hole will result in imbalance in the product and excessive vibration, and can make the product difficult to use.
• Do not use damaged accessories. Always check before use that discs and other accessories are not cracked or otherwise damaged. Do not use products or accessories that are damaged, or not working properly. When the accessory has been checked and fitted, hold the product at a safe angle and run it at maximum speed for1 minute. If the accessory is damaged it will probably break during this test.
• Use personal safety equipment. Wear approved safety glasses or a visor, depending on the application. Use supplementary protective equipment, such as dust filter mask, ear protection, gloves and an apron if necessary. Use eye and face protection to stop chips and other particles that can be ejected when working. A dust filter mask filters dust and particles produced when working. Prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause hearing impairment.
• Keep onlookers at a safe distance from the work area. Everyone in the work area must wear personal safety equipment. Fragments of workpieces or defective accessories can result in personal injury.
• Hold the product by the insulated grips when working in areas where it could come into contact with concealed electrical cables or its own power cord. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the product to also become live – risk of electric shock.
• Lay out the power cord so that it cannot be damaged by rotating parts. otherwise the power cord can be damaged, or fasten and pull your hands or arms towards the accessory.
• Switch off the product and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before putting it down. Otherwise the accessory can catch on the surface and cause the product to move out of control, which can result in serious personal injury. Do not start the product when carrying it at your side. Rotating parts can fasten in your clothing and cause serious personal injury.
• Clean the ventilation openings on the product at regular intervals. The tool can overheat otherwise.
• Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity off flammable liquids, gas or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
• Do not use accessories that require coolant. Water and coolant increase the risk of electric shock.

WARNING FOR KICK-BACK

• Hold the product firmly with both hands and hold your arms in a position that prevents kickback. Support handles should always be used to keep the tool under control. Kickback can cause the product to jerk backwards, but the user can control this by taking the appropriate measures.
• Never put your hands near moving parts. Kickback can cause the accessory to pass over your hands.
• Do not stand with any part of your body in line with the kickback trajectory. The kickback trajectory runs in the opposite direction to the movement of the accessory at the point of engagement.
• Be careful on curves, corners and edges etc. and do not allow the accessory to bounce against the workpiece. There is more risk of the accessory jamming or getting stuck, which can cause kickback.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR POLISHING

• Do not allow any part of the polishing bonnet or its strings to rotate freely. Tuck in or cut off extruding strings. Loose strings etc. can fasten in the workpiece or your fingers – risk of personal injury.

REDUCTION OF NOISE AND VIBRATIONS

• Plan the work so that exposure to heavy vibrations is spread over a longer period.
• To reduce noise and vibrations when in use, limit the time the tool is in use, and use low-power/vibration mode and suitable safety equipment.
• Take the following precautions to minimise the risks of exposure to vibrations and/or noise:
  – Only use the tool in accordance with these instructions.
  – Check that the tool is in good condition.
  – Use accessories in good condition, and which are suitable for the purpose.
  – Keep a firm grip on the handles/ grips.
  – Maintain and lubricate the tool in accordance with these instructions.

DUST

• Dust produced during the work can be harmful to health, carcinogenic, flammable or explosive. Use a dust filter mask and suitable equipment for dust extraction/ collection.
• The dust from some alloys can catch fire, or explode. Mixtures of materials increase the risk- keep the work area clean.

WARNING!
Fire risk. Dust in dust bags, vacuum cleaners or filters can self-ignite or be ignited by sparks, hot workpieces or other sources of heat, especially if it comes into contact with polyurethane, solvent-based paint and other chemicals. Make sure that the tool and/or workpiece do not overheat. Always empty the dust container before pausing the work.

TECHNICAL DATA

Always wear ear protection.

The declared values for vibration and noise, which have been measured according to a standardised test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure.
The measurement values have been determined in accordance with EN 60745-1, EN 60745-2-3.

WARNING
The actual vibration and noise level when using tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used and the material. It is therefore necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start- up time).

INTENDED USE

The product is intended for fine polishing and high gloss polishing of metal and enamelled surfaces, together with polish. The product can also be used to apply wax with a separate wax bonnet.

Accessories for polishing, waxing and cleaning are available in Jula’s department stores and at www.jula.com.

USE

DISC SUPPORT PLATE

Check
Check before fitting that the disc support plate (10) is not cracked or otherwise damaged. Never fit disc support plates that are cracked, damaged or deformed, or show other signs of incorrect use or storage.

Assembly

1. Screw the disc support plate (10) on the spindle (9).
2. Lock the spindle (9) to prevent rotation by pressing the spindle lock button (1), and tighten the disc support plate (10) on the spindle.

WARNING!
The disc support plate should be tightened until it fits firmly but is not overtightened this can damage it.

REMOVAL/REPLACING

Follow the instructions below to remove and replace the disc support plate (10), for example if it damaged or worn.

1. Press the spindle lock button (1) and turn the disc support plate (10) until the spindle lock engages and locks the spindle (9).
2. Keep the spindle lock button (1) pressed and unscrew the disc support plate (10).
3. Fit a new disc support plate (10) as per the assembly instructions in the previous section.

POLISHING BONNET

The disc support plate (10) and bonnet (11) have velcro fasteners, which makes it easy to fit and remove the bonnet.

Assembly

1. Remove any contamination and foreign objects from bonnet (11) and the disc support plate (10) before fitting.

2. Fold down the outer edge of the bonnet (11).

3. Place the bonnet (11) well centred on the disc support plate (10).

4. Press the bonnet (11) with moderate force against the disc support plate (10) so that the velcro is firmly attached.

5. Fold up the outer edge of the bonnet (11) round the disc support plate (10). Check that the bonnet (11) is folded all round the outer edge of the disc support plate (10).

Removal/replacing
Wash the polishing bonnet if it is dirty or saturated with polish and replace if it is worn or damaged.

1. Grip the edge of the bonnet (11) and carefully pull it off the disc support plate (10).

2. Fit a new bonnet (11) as per the assembly instructions in the previous section.

HOW TO USE

WARNING!

• Read the safety instructions carefully before use.
• The product must not be used to work in materials that are harmful to health.
• Use suitable safety equipment and take regular pauses.

MAINS CONNECTION

1. Check that the power switch (7) is switched off.
2. Plug the plug into a power point the correct mains voltage.
3. The product is now ready to be used.

SPEED CONTROL

A top speed limit can be set with speed control (3). The setting is variable, but marked in? levels.

1. To increase the top speed limit, turn the speed control (3) forwards (seen from a normal working position), see figure 8. A high speed should be used for high gloss polishing. Be careful when polishing at high speed -the generation of heat at high speed can cause irreparable damage to the paintwork on a car.

2. To reduce the top speed limit, turn the speed control (3) back (seen from a normal working position), see figure 9. Inexperienced users often achieve best results at low speed. Low speed also makes it easier to spread the polish uniformly over the surface, without splashing.

STARTING/STOPPING

The product can be used for intermittent or continuous use.

Intermittent operation

1. Start the product by pressing the power switch (7) .
2. Switch off the product by releasing the power switch (7).

Continuous operation

1. Start the product by pressing the power switch (7) and holding it in.
2. Press the lock button (6) to lock the power switch (7) .
3. Release both buttons. The power switch (7) is now locked and the product runs continuously.
4. Switch off the product by pressing and then releasing the power switch (7).

POLISHING

Accessories for polishing, such as bonnets, polish and wax, including products for cleaning, are available in Jula’s department stores and at www.jula.com.

IMPORTANT:
Polishing requires considerable skill and experience. Incorrect polishing can cause irreparable damage to paintwork. Test first on a sample, or allow an expert to do the polishing.

Preparations

• Wash the surfaces to be polished and allow to dry. Use a wax dissolving detergent and if necessary a cold degreaser to remove spots of asphalt. Small spots of rust or contaminants outside the paintwork can require the use of clay bar.
• Mask adjacent and unpainted plastic and Mask adjacent and unpainted plastic and rubber parts with suitable tape.
• The surface should be lit up, some defects are only visible in good lighting.

Polishing

1. Check that the polishing bonnet (11) is clean, without any sand or other operation that can cause scratching and holograms.

2. Apply only a small amount of polish at a time. Polish that is not absorbed by the bonnet (11) can fasten on the surface, which has a negative effect on the result.

3. Hold the product with one hand on the handle (4) and the other hand on the support handle (12).

4. Start working at low speed, so that the polish is spread uniformly and without splashing over the surface.

5. Set a higher speed limit, start the product and wait until it reaches this set speed before pressing the bonnet against the surface.

6. Do not press too hard on the support handle (12), this can produce an inferior result and increases the risk of damaging the surface.

7. Keep the bonnet flush with the surface and move it in small circles while moving it smoothly in a crisscross pattern. Overlap each stroke a little. Polish a small area at a time (about 40 x 40 cm).

8. Always lift off the product from the surface before switching off.

9. Wipe off residual polish by hand with a clean microfibre cloth.

TIPS

• If you are not used to polishing, test first on a sample or allow an expert to do the polishing.
• The supplied bonnet (11) is only intended for fine polishing and high gloss polishing. A special pad or bonnet for rubbing with a coarse polish or for waxing can be bought separately. Contact the retailer.
• Never hold the product still on the same spot on the surface, the development of heat can overheat the surface can cause irreparable damage.
• Polish corners, edges and other places where the bonnet has a limited contact surface very sparingly.
• Replace the bonnet if it begins to show signs of loosening from the disc support plate (10).

AFTER USE

1. Switch off the product, pull out the plug, and allow it to cool.
2. Check, clean and store the product as described in the following instructions.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING!

• Switch off the product, pull out the plug, and allow the product to cool before cleaning and/or maintenance.
  

• Do not carry out any maintenance or adjustments other than as described in these instructions. Repairs must only be carried out by qualified personnel.

General cleaning

• Check the product and all the accessories for wear or damage before and after use. Replace any damaged parts with new ones with the same technical data in
  accordance with these instructions.

• Keep the product clean. Clean the product after use and before putting it away. Proper maintenance and regular cleaning are essential for the product to work satisfactorily.

• Clean the ventilation openings (8) on the product after use. Use a brush for parts difficult to get at.

• The product can be cleaned with compressed air (max3 bar).

• Always check the product, the power cord and plug for damage before use. Do not use the product if it is damaged.

• Check for any damaged parts. Take the product to an authorised service centre or other qualified personnel, to be ‘ checked and repaired.

NOTE:
Do not use strong or abrasive chemicals.

Polishing bonnet

• Remove the bonnet (11) according to the instructions above.
• Wash the bonnet by hand in warm (max 30°C) water, or if necessary with a mild soapy solution. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
• Allow the bonnet to dry before using it again or putting it away.

Power cord
A damaged cord or plug must be replaced by an authorised service centre or qualified person to ensure safe use.
