SPECIFIC SAFETY

WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gained from repeated use) replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules. If you use this tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.

  1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.
  2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damaged, broken or misplaced. Repair or replace the parts.

POWER TOOL PRECAUTIONS

  1. Do not use any power tool with a malfunctioning trigger, power switch or control. A power tool that fails to respond to the controls is dangerous and can cause an injury. A qualified technician must repair and verify the power tool is operating correctly, before it can be used.
  2. Shut the power off and disconnect the rotary tumbler from the power supply (if possible) before making any adjustments, changing accessories, cleaning, servicing or when storing. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
  3. Clean the rotary tumbler’s air vents often. The motor’s fan will draw dust and other particulates into the tool.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

WARNING! Do not touch or handle a live tool with any part of your body that is wet or damp. Wet skin reduces resistance to electrical current, increasing the danger of a serious or fatal shock.
WARNING! To reduce risk of electric shock, be certain that the plug is connected to a properly grounded receptacle.

  1. Do not alter any parts of the tool or accessories. All parts and accessories are designed with built-in safety features that may be compromised if altered.
  2. Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical equipment. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces. There is an increased chance of electrical shock if your body is grounded.
  3. Do not expose the rotary tumbler to rain, snow, frost or any other damp or wet conditions. Water entering a tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  4. Do not disconnect the power cord in place of using the ON/OFF switch. This will prevent an accidental start-up when the power cord is plugged into the power supply.
  5. In the event of a power failure, turn off or unplug the machine as soon as the power is interrupted. The possibility of accidental injury could occur if the power returns and the unit is not switched off.
  6. Make certain the power source conforms to requirements of your equipment (see Specifications).

POWER CORD SAFETY

  1. A polarized plug has two blades of different widths, allowing only one way to insert the plug into the outlet. If the outlet does not accept a polarized plug, contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not alter the plug, as this may compromise the built-in safety feature.
    • Do not use any adapter plugs.
  2. Insert the power cord plug directly to the power supply whenever possible.
  3. Do not operate this tool if the power cord is frayed, damaged or poorly spliced, as an electric shock may occur, resulting in personal injury or property damage. Have the power cord replace by a qualified service technician.
  4. Discontinue use if a power cord feels more than comfortably warm while operating the tool.
  5. Keep all connections dry and off the ground to reduce the risk of electric shock. Do not touch the plug or wiring with wet hands.
  6. Prevent damage to the power cord by observing the following:
    • Do not pull on the cord to disconnect the plug from an outlet.
    • Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
  7. Position the cord so it is not stepped on, tripped over or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.
  8. Do not wrap the cord around the tool, as sharp edges may cut insulation or cause cracks if wound too tight. Gently coil cord and either hang on a hook or fasten with a device to keep cord together during storage.
  9. Do not run the cord under carpeting or cover with throw rugs, runners or similar coverings. Covering that cord may result in the tool overheating and starting a fire.

UNPACKING

WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction and personal injury.

Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage.

CONTENTS

Make sure that all items in the contents are included.

  • Rotary tumbler
  • 0.5 lb of walnut shell media

OPERATIONS

IMPORTANT! Do not dump the waste slurry into your plumbing system or down a drain. The sediment in the slurry can harden and block the drain system. Consult the instructions in the Disposal section for instructions on disposing of the waste.

  1. Remove the barrel (#12) from the unit and then remove the knurled nuts (#7) along with the washers (#8).
  2. Remove the barrel lid (#9).
  3. Load the barrel to 1/2 capacity for polishing and to 3/4 for more pointed, abrasive rocks.
    • It is imperative to always load the barrel with the proper amounts of materials. Failure to do so may result in unsuccessful performance or motor damage.
  4. Ensure all materials are similar in nature.
  5. Add enough water to reach the bottom of the top layer of rocks. Plastic pellets (not included) can also be used.
  6. Seal the rubber barrel and replace the barrel lid along with knurled nuts and washers.
  7. Set the rubber barrel on the roller shafts (#4, 42).
  8. Make sure the stops (#6) are lightly touching the barrel lid (#9). This will prevent them from rubbing and will reduce friction.
  9. Turn on the power switch (#27).
    • Make sure to check the lid seal during the first ten minutes to ensure that it is not leaking.
  10. For best results, use a five-step process: first grind, second grind, prepolish, polish and burnish.
    • Remove and clean the contents with fresh water after each stage. Also clean debris from the rubber barrel.
    • The first grind typically takes 7 to 10 days to round the sharp edges.
    • Check for gas build-up after 12 hours. Check every 24 hours, releasing gas and adding water as needed.
    • Return the contents and fresh water for a second grind. Run the rotary tumbler continuously for 2 or 3 days to further smooth the content’s edges.
    • Return the clean contents with fresh water to pre-polish the materials and tumble for a week, checking every other day.
    • Remove materials and rub with a towel, dampened leather or polish to test their shine. If not satisfactory, replace and run for another 24 hours.
    • Dry the barrel before returning the dried materials into the drum. Add a polishing compound and tumble for 5 to 7 days.
    • If the removed materials have a film, clean the drum and add a mixture of powdered soap (not included) and water. Run the rotary tumbler for 4 days.
    • If satisfied, remove the materials and clean.
  11. Hard materials may require more than a single process.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

  1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to control and will have fewer problems.
  2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
    • Check the V-belt (#40) for tension before each use. It must be kept as loose as possible without allowing it to slip on the pulley (#36).
  3. Clear the vents of any dirt, dust and debris on a regular basis to prevent the tool from overheating.
  4. Before the first use, and a once month thereafter, place a few drops of oil on the driving shaft bearings (#1, 2 and 3).
  5. Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.

WARNING

  • Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

CLEANING

  1. Only clean the tool with mild soap and a damp cloth.
  2. Clean the rubber barrels and contents after every step in the process.
  3. Wipe the tool with a clean cloth and periodically blow out all areas with compressed air. If compressed air is not available, use a brush to remove dust from areas. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents to clean the tool. These chemicals could seriously damage the housing.
  4. Dry the steel components and lubricate to prevent corrosion.

DISPOSAL

Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.
Contact your local municipality for a list of disposal facilities or by-laws for electronic devices, batteries, oil or other toxic liquids.

SLURRY DISPOSAL

The slurry created from the fragmented materials, cleaning additives and water will create a slurry that must be disposed of properly. Do not dispose down a drain or through the plumbing system. The sediment may collect and harden, causing damage to the drain or plumbing system.
These instructions are for waste slurry that does not contain toxic or harmful materials or chemicals. Consult your municipal by-laws for disposal procedures
If an additive or the residue from the material is considered harmful to people or the environment.

  1. Drain the slurry and any water used to clean the barrel and product into a suitable bucket or container.
  2. Allow time for the sediments to settle.
  3. You can pour out much of the water onto a patch of ground or in a pit designed for the wastewater.
  4. Either leave the remaining sediment in the container or pour out on a surface and allow to dry. This surface should contain the remaining liquid, but spread out the sediment to allow faster drying.
  5. Dispose of the dried sediment in your garbage container.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function properly or parts are missing.
  • If unable to do so, have a qualified technician service the tool.
