POWER SOURCE
This unit operates on a built-in Lithium-lon rechargeable battery (nominal
voltage — nominal capacity: 3.7V — 2000mAh).
Note: The battery is not charged at unit shipping/delivery, therefore charge
the battery fully before using the unit.
CHARGING THE BUILT-IN BATTERY
-
Use a 5V USB AC Adapter with a current capability of at least 1.5A.
Note: the 5V USB AC Adapter is not included -
Connect the unit and the 5V USB AC Adapter using the provided USB cable.
-
Connect the 5V USB AC Adapter to a household AC power outlet.
-
The charging time can be up to 4-5 hours, depending on the initial battery level.
-
During the charging time the battery indicator (#8 Page EN-2) will light up red.
-
When the battery is fully charged, the battery indicator light will turn off.
-
The unit may be disconnected and you may start using it for play/record.
-
While the unit is operating, the battery indicator light remains off.
-
As battery power is being drawn by the unit, when the battery goes below a certain level the indicator light will blink red and the unit will eventually shut down completely.
The battery needs to be recharged, following the above steps.
CHARGING THE BUILT-IN BATTERY AND USING THE UNIT AT THE SAME TIME
- You may use the unit while its built-in battery is charging, provided the battery level is sufficient.
- When you use the unit while charging, the battery will be charging at a slower rate than normal (longer charging time).
This is due to the power being drawn by the unit.
BATTERY — PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT THE BATTERY’S LIFESPAN
-
Avoid discharging the battery fully.
-
Avoid overcharging the battery — unplug the USB cable once the battery is fully charged.
-
Avoid charging the battery in areas where the ambient temperature is above +40°C (+104°F) or below +5°C (+41°F).
-
An obvious decrease in the duration the battery can hold its charge indicates that the battery is nearing the end of its service life.
Do not attempt to remove and replace the battery- please see Page EN-14: refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
USING THE UNIT

The RECORDING JACK (#11) is meant for recording from an external music source.
-
Protection against accidental cassette erasure: When sound is being recorded on a cassette, the previous recordings are erased automatically. To prevent accidental erasure, cassettes are provided with protective tabs. To protect a cassette, remove the tab (or both) at the top of the cassette using a knife or screw driver. If you subsequently need to re-record on a protected cassette, cover the hole revealed with adhesive tape. It is not possible to press the RECORD BUTTON (#5) if the protective tab has been removed and has not been replaced by adhesive tape.
-
Do not force down the RECORD BUTTON (#5) if the erase- protection tabs of the cassette have been removed, or you will damage the recorder.
CONNECTING WIRELESS HEADPHONES
PAIRING THE UNIT AND THE WIRELESS HEADPHONES
It is necessary that your wireless headphones support the Bluetooth standard.
To avoid pairing errors, switch off other nearby wireless receiving devices
(wireless speakers, other wireless headphones) and place your wireless
headphones near the unit while pairing. To enable wireless audio trans-
mission from the unit to your wireless headphones, the two devices need to be
paired first, as follows:
- Insert a pre-recorded cassette, set the unit to playback mode (Button #4).
- On wireless headphones: power on and set pairing mode.
- On unit: making sure the headphones are in pairing mode, long press the wireless link Button #6 until the blue LED indicator #7 turns ON.
- The 2 devices will pair automatically in a few seconds, the headphones’ identifier (MAC address) is memorized in the unit — blue LED indicator #7 will stay on upon connecting.
- Audio is now transmitted wirelessly from the unit to the headphones.
- The unit can pair with and memorize up to 8 wireless receiving devices (wireless headphones/wireless speakers).
- Subsequently, to connect the unit and a memorized device, just set the unit to playback mode, power on the memorized device, then long press Button #6 on the unit until blue LED #7 turns ON. Reconnection will be automatic, in a few seconds — the device pairing mode is skipped.
DISCONNECTION / RECONNECTION
-
The wireless connection will remain ON as long as the unit is in playback mode and for 3 mins after playback stops. Within the 3 mins, you may rewind, fast-forward, flip or change the cassette. If playback ends without further user action within the next 3 mins, the connection will be terminated and the blue LED #7 turned off.
-
If the headphones are turned off in the midst of a running connection, during the next 3 mins the blue LED #7 will blink once every sec. and the wireless connection will be
• terminated if no user action occurs within the 3 mins.
• restored automatically (no pairing is required) if the headphones (or another memorized device) are turned back on within the 3 mins.
• beyond the 3 mins, to restore the wireless connection, just follow the above step 7.
• Note: depending on the headphones model, it may be necessary to turn OFF and ON again the wireless link on the unit by long pressing Button #6. -
To turn off the wireless connection, long press Button #6. The blue LED #7 will blink 3 times and go off.
-
Range of the wireless connection: approx. 3 to 5m For best performance, ensure a clear line of sight between the unit and the receiving device.
-
The quality and performance of the wireless connection also depend on the receiving device. Some low power devices (e.g. some earbuds) may not connect satisfactorily with the unit.
-
When 8 receiving devices have been memorized, the pairing of a new device will erase the earliest memorized device and replace it with the new one.
CASSETTES – OPERATING TIPS
-
High quality cassettes are recommended to obtain maximum quality reproduction from recordings, for example the new FOX audio cassette offered by Recording The Masters.
-
120-minute (C-120) cassettes are not recommended because they contain thinner and longer tape that has a greater chance to malfunction and jam, which may damage the cassette mechanism.
-
To obtain good reproduction, the tape head should be cleaned after every 10 to 20 hours of use. It is also recommended that the cassette be kept away from excessive heat or cold.
-
If there is slack in the tape, remove the slack prior to inserting the cassette. To remove the slack, insert a pencil into the hub and rotate as shown:
-
A leader tape is provided at the beginning on each cassette.
There is no recording on this area, so it is necessary to let the cassette run for about five seconds to clear the head. -
Keep the tape head clean since a dirty head can cause distorted sound or improper tape speed. Open the cassette door press the PLAY BUTTON (#4) and use a small cotton swab with tape head cleaner or alcohol to clean the tape head, capstan and pinch roller.
