- Refer to the appropriate page below based on your order:
- Inside Mount
- Outside Mount
Mount the Installation Brackets — Inside Mount
- Identify the brackets. The control end installation bracket has the pivot cup and the opposite side has the slot.
- Measure the width of the headrail from the top edge of end cap to the opposite end cap or hold the headrail to the window opening.
- Center the width in the window opening.
- Add 1⁄4″ to the left and right edges and mark.
- Minimum mounting depth for bracket attachment is 1″. Fully recessed mounting depth is 31⁄16″.
- Align each bracket with the outside face against the 1⁄4″ mark and use a 3⁄32″ drill bit to drill holes for the screws. CAUTION: Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall.
- Attach the brackets using the screws provided.
- Mount the pivot cup bracket on the control side, as ordered.
- Mount the slot bracket on the opposite side.
- Make sure each bracket is level and the front edges are aligned.
IMPORTANT: Mount the screws in the center of the slots on the brackets to allow for side-to-side adjustment.
Mount the Installation Brackets — Outside Mount
-
Identify the brackets. The control end bracket has the pivot cup and the opposite side has the slot.
-
Center the headrail above the window opening at the desired height.
-
Add 1⁄4″ to the left and right edges and mark the mounting surface.
- The minimum flat vertical surface required is 3⁄4″.
-
Align each bracket with the outside face against the 1⁄4″ mark and use a 3⁄32″ drill bit to drill holes for the screws.
CAUTION: Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall. -
Attach the brackets using the screws provided.
- Mount the pivot cup bracket on the control side, as ordered.
- Mount the slot bracket on the opposite side.
-
Make sure each bracket is level and the front edges are aligned.
IMPORTANT: Mount the screws in the center of the slots on the brackets to allow for side-to-side adjustment.
Install the Shading
- Peel back the protective covering from the top of the headrail.
- With the vanes closed, hold the shading so the front of the headrail faces you.
- On the control side, line up the grooves and set the compression clutch in the pivot cup.
- On the opposite side, push the shading toward the control side to compress the clutch and slide the ball pin into the slot. When properly seated, the ball pin drops into the pocket at the end of the slot.
- On an inside mount, the ball pin slides in from the front.
- On an outside mount, the ball pin slides in from the top.
- Remove the protective covering from the headrail.
WARNING: When properly installed, the tension should hold the shading securely. If there is not enough tension, see “Adjust the Ball Pin” on page 8.
Install the Tilt Wand (Optional)
-
You can tilt the vanes by lifting and lowering the end cap or you may prefer to use the optional tilt wand.
IMPORTANT: The wand must be installed on the control side of the headrail, as ordered. -
On the control side end cap, hang the wand hook on the connector hole in the end cap.
Attach the Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets (Optional)
- Close the vanes.
- Attach the magnetic hold-down brackets onto the bottom rail just inside the end caps, oriented as shown.
- Mark the screw location using the mounting options shown below.
- The screw should be placed in the middle of the channel. This will allow for adjustment.
Inside Mount
- Drill the screw holes using a 3⁄32″ drill bit.
- Attach the hold-down brackets to the mounting surface using the screws provided.
- If necessary, adjust the bracket height by loosening the screw and sliding the bracket up or down.
OPERATION
Operate the Shading
The shading can be operated by lifting the end cap or by using the optional
tilt wand.
- Lift straight up on the end cap or optional tilt wand to open the vanes.
- Pull straight down on the end cap or optional tilt wand to close the vanes.
Adjust the Shading, If Necessary Adjust the Ball Pin
The ball pin can be extended or reduced for proper fit in the brackets. The
shading should fit securely. The ball pin should be adjusted so that when the
headrail is installed the ball pin hits the slot in the end cap with a slight
tension. Also, when pushed the ball pin the rest of the way into the slot, it
will seat into the pocket.
- Remove the shading from the brackets. See “Removing the Shading”.
- Use pliers to remove the ball pin from the headrail.
- On the opposite side of the ball pin piece, use a 3⁄32″ hex wrench to adjust the ball pin.
- Reinsert the ball pin into the headrail.
- Reinstall the shading in the brackets.
Adjust the Vane Tension
The vanes should hold the desired position. If the vanes fall closed when
you release the tilt wand or end cap, you need to adjust the vane tension. The
tilt should function easily. If the tilt function feels tight, you can reduce
the vane tension.
- Remove the shading from the brackets.
- On the control side of the headrail end cap, use a small Phillips screwdriver to adjust the vane tension in half-turn increments.
- Reinstall the shading in the brackets.

Cleaning Procedures
Silhouette® Window Shadings are made of 100% polyester, which means they are
inherently durable and resilient. However, care must be taken to avoid
wrinkling the fabric, particularly where the vanes meet the facings.
The Palette® Fabric-Covered Headrail
- Spot-clean the headrail using a sponge or delicate cloth, cool distilled water and a mild soap solution; handle with care as you would any fine fabric.
Dusting
- Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning needed in most circumstances.
Vacuuming
- Use a low suction, hand-held vacuum for more thorough dust removal.
Forced Air
- Blow away dirt and debris between the vanes using clean compressed air.
Spot-Cleaning
- Do not spot-clean Silhouette Window Shadings.
CARE
Ultrasonic Cleaning
Silhouette® Window Shadings can be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional, with the exception of all Bon Soir™ fabrics, ClearView™ Originale™, ClearView Mystere™, ClearView Nouveau™, and Mystere.
- Specify that a mild detergent solution be used.
- Never immerse the headrail in the solution.
- Dry the shading completely in the lowered position.
Injection/Extraction
Silhouette Window Shadings can be professionally cleaned using the injection/extraction method.
- A dry method of injection/extraction is required for all Bon Soir fabrics.
- Never immerse the headrail in the solution.
Electrostatic Cleaning
Do not use electrostatic cleaning wipes on any Silhouette Window Shadings.
A Note About Silhouette® Fabrics
As with all textiles, Silhouette fabrics are subject to some variations.
Slight wrinkling, puckering, or bowing is inherent to this textile product and
should be considered normal, acceptable quality. These characteristics are not
usually visible from the front or rear but may be visible from a side angle.
Precautions should be taken to reduce exposure to harsh environmental
elements, such as salt air. Continuous exposure through open windows and doors
will accelerate the fabric deterioration. The Hunter Douglas® Lifetime
Guarantee is an expression of our desire to provide a thoroughly satisfying
experience when selecting, purchasing and living with your window fashion
