PARKSIDE Diamond Cutting Disc Set Operating and Safety Instructions

For Diamond Cutting Disc Set/Wire Cup Brush/Cutting Disc Set/Cutting/Grinding Disc Set

WARNING! To reduce the risk of injury. Please read the operating & safety instructions carefully before the initial commissioning of the grinding tool. These operating & safety instructions must also be passed on to other users.

KEEP ALL SAFETY NOTES AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!

General information about grinding tools and their properties

  • Grinding tools are fragile therefore utmost care must be taken when handling grinding tools.
  • Using damaged, incorrectly clamped or installed grinding tools is dangerous and can lead to serious injuries.

Selection of grinding tools for safe and proper use

  • Details on the label or the grinding tool and restrictions on use, safety instructions, and further information must be observed.

Handling and storage of grinding tools

  • Grinding tools must be handled and transported carefully.
  • Grinding tools must be stored so that they are not exposed to any mechanical damage or harmful environmental influences. (for ex-ample moisture).

Conditions to be met prior to using the grinding tools

  • Grinding tools must be visually inspected prior to each commissioning.
  • Continuing to use damaged grinding tools is not permitted.
  • Grinding tools must not be mounted on to machines that have a rotation speed above the highest permitted rotation speed of the brushes or the grinding tool.

Instructions for clamping

  • Grinding tools must be clamped in accordance with the instructions of the grinding tool and machine manufacturer.
  • After completing each clamping procedure, perform a test run for a suitable period of time. The labeled maximum working speed (rotational speed) of the grinding tool is not permitted to be exceeded during this.

Grinding operation (and/or cut-off grinding operation if applicable)

  • Follow the user information from the machine manufacturer.
  • Affix all protective equipment to the machine before commissioning.
  • Do not perform any work without using protective equipment to secure everything.
  • Use personal protective equipment in accordance with the type of machine and application, for example safety goggles and visors, hearing protectors, res-piratory protection, safety shoes, protective gloves and other protective clothing.
  • Only perform grinding operations for which the grinding tool is suitable, in accordance with the labelling (take restrictions for use, safety instructions or other infor-mation into account for this).
  • Switch off the hand-operated grinding machine before laying it on the floor or the workbench and wait for the device to stop.

Safety notes for all applications

General safety instructions on grinding and cut-off grinding:

  • Do not use accessories that have not been designed and recommended by the manufacturer for use with this power tool. Just because you are able to attach an accessory to your power tool this does not guarantee that it is safe to use.
  • The permitted revolutions of the tool must be at least as high as the highest revolutions specified on the power tool. Accessories that rotate faster than they are permitted to may break and fly.
  • Grinding discs, flanges or other accessories must fit precisely onto the grinding spindle of your power tool.
  • Do not use damaged insertion tools.
  • Check the insertion tools as well as grinding discs for splintering and cracks prior to each use.
  • Ensure that other people are kept at a safe distance to the area in which you are working.
  • Anyone entering the workplace must wear personal protective equipment. Pieces of the workpiece or broken tools may fly away and cause injuries even outside the direct working area.
  • Never set the power tool down before the insertion tool has come to a complete standstill.
  • The rotating tool may come into contact with the surface and cause you to lose control over the power tool.
  • Never operate the power tool while you are carrying it. Your clothing may be caught as a result of accidental contact with the rotating tool causing the tool to injure you.
  • Never use the power tool in the vicinity of flammable materials. Sparks may set fire to these materials.

Additional safety notes for all applications

Kickback and appropriate safety notes

  • Kickback is a sudden reaction caused as a result of a jammed or blocked rotating insertion tool (grinding disc).
  • A kickback is a consequence of the incorrect or faulty operation of the power tool. It can be prevented by the use of suitable measures, as described below:
  • Hold the electrical tool securely with both hands and position your body and arms in such a way that you are able to absorb any kickback. Always use an additional handle, if available, to ensure you have the greatest possible level of control over the kickback forces or reaction torque when starting up. Never bring your hand close to the rotating insertion tool.
  • Position your body in such a way that it is not located where the power tool is likely to kick back to. Be especially careful around corners, sharp edges etc. Prevent insertion tools from bouncing off the workpiece and becoming jammed. The rotating insertion tool tends to become jammed at corners, sharp edges or when it bounces.
  • This will lead to a loss of control or kickback.

Additional safety instructions for diamond cutting discs:

  • Only for cutting! Not for rough-ing!
  • Not suitable for metal! The danger of injury! Cutting and cooling
  • Diamond cutting discs must always be installed without lateral and radial runout
  • Do not move backward and forwards within the material, draw through steadily instead
  • To prevent the risk of cracks in the center or segment breaks- only work at a right angle and in a straight line.
  • Do not apply too much-grinding pressure; the weight of the machine is sufficient
  • When using diamond cutting discs, make sure to leave an appropriate amount of time for cooling.
  • These may vary depending on the cutting capacity, type of cutting and material being pro-cessed; therefore, the user must make sufficient time for cooling and take the various factors into account.
  • Caution! The diamond cutting disc gets very hot during work; only handle them with protective gloves.

Additional safety instructions on grinding and cut-off grinding

  • Use only grinding tools expressly permitted for use with your power tool and the appropriate protective hood for these grinding tools. The protective hood must be affixed securely to the power tool and set in such a way that it ensures the maximum level of safety possible, i.e. the smallest possible area of the grinding tool is exposed to the operator.
  • Grinding tools may only be used for the recommended applications. For example:
  • Never sand using the side surface of a cutting wheel.
  • Always use undamaged tension-ing flanges in the correct size and shape for the grinding disc you have selected.

Additional safety instructions on cut-off grinding

  • Avoid blocking the cutting disc or employing too great a pressure. Do not carry out any excessively deep cuts.
  • Avoid the area in front and behind the rotating cutting disc.
  • If the cutting disc blocks or you stop working, switch the unit off and hold it still until the disc has come to a standstill. Never attempt to pull a still operating cutting disc out of the cut as this may cause kickback.
  • Do not switch the power tool back on with it still in the workpiece. Allow the cutting disc to achieve the full revolutions before you continue to cut carefully.
  • Support boards or large workpieces to reduce the risk of kick-back caused by a jammed cutting disc.
  • Be particularly careful when carrying out “plunge cuts” into an existing wall or an area you can’t see into.

Cleaning and maintenance

Never use any aggressive or abrasive cleaning materials. Otherwise, the surface of the product can get damaged. The product must always be clean, dry, and free from oil or lubricating greases. Use a slightly damp, lint-free cloth for cleaning.
