2.1 Explanation of warning notices
The following warning notices are used in this document to draw the attention of the user to possible dangers. The warning notices are defined as follows:

Alert icon Signal word Consequences of non-observance
WARNING Indicates a potentially hazardous situation.

If not avoided, it could result in  death or serious injury.
| CAUTION| Indicates a potentially hazardous situation.
If not avoided, it could result in physical injury.
It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices.

Principles of operation

3.1 Feature description
The chemical protective suits are certified as Category III personal protective clothing.
The one-piece chemical protective suit is equipped with a chin flap and elastic drawstrings at the hood, wrists and ankles. The chemical protection suit is optionally equipped with socks, leg and arm cuffs, whereby the socks do not offer sufficient protection against mechanical loads. The zip runs vertically down the front and is protected by a double cover flap. The inside of the chemical protective suit has an antistatic treatment and provides protection against electrostatic charges.
Depending on the application, the user must also wear suitable protective boots, chemical protective gloves and breathing apparatus.
3.2 Intended use
The chemical protective suit protects the wearer against organic and inorganic fluids, radioactive contamination and against viruses and bacteria. It also protects against incorporation of radioactive particles.
The chemical protective suit can also be used if sensitive products must be protected against contamination caused by humans.
Version with hook-and-loop fastener
The chemical protective suit is intended for limited use. It may only be used a second time if it is not damaged or contaminated. The use must also be acceptable from a hygienic standpoint. The chemical protective suit cannot be cleaned and sterilised again.
Version with self-adhesive tape The chemical protective suit is intended for single use.
3.3 Limitations on intended use
The chemical protective suit should not be exposed to substances in higher concentrations than those tested. Substances with higher concentrations require other protective clothing.
Exposure to hazardous biological substances that do not comply with the tightness of the suit can cause biocontamination of the wearer. For further information see: “Technical data”, page 8.
Avoid heat and open flames. The chemical protective suit is not suitable for firefighting applications. For further information see: “Technical data”, page 8.
The chemical protective suit does not provide any protection against radiation by radioactive particles or against radiation damage.
The person wearing the electrostatic dissipative protective clothing shall be properly earthed. The resistance between the person skin and earth shall be less than 10 8 Ω e.g. by wearing adequate footwear on dissipative or conductive floors. Electrostatic dissipative protective clothing shall not be opened or removed whilst in presence of flammable or explosive atmospheres or while handling flammable or explosive substances.
Electrostatic dissipative protective clothing is intended to be worn in Zones 1, 2, 20, 21 and 22 (see EN 60079-10-1 [7] and EN 60079-10-2 [8]) in which the minimum ignition energy of any explosive atmosphere is not less than 0,016 mJ.
Electrostatic dissipative protective clothing shall not be used in oxygen enriched atmospheres, or in Zone 0 (see EN 60079-10-1 [7]) without prior approval of the responsible safety engineer.
The electrostatic dissipative performance of the electrostatic dissipative protective clothing can be affected by wear and tear, laundering and possible contamination.
Electrostatic dissipative protective clothing shall be worn in such a way that it permanently covers all non-complying materials during normal use (including bending movements).

3.4 Approvals
The chemical protective suit is approved in accordance with:

  • EN 14605:2005+A1:2009 (Type 3B and 4B protective clothing)
  • EN ISO 13982-1:2004+A1:2010 (Type 5B protective clothing)
  • EN 13034:2005+A1:2009 (Type 6B protective clothing)
  • EN 1073-2:2002 (Protective clothing against radioactive contamination, IL: Class 1, nominal protection factor 5)
  • EN 1149-5: 2018 (Protective clothing – electrostatic properties)
  • EN 14126:2003+AC:2004 (Protective clothing against infective agents)
  • ISO 16602:2007 (Protective clothing for protection against chemicals)
  • (EU) 2016/425

Declaration of conformity: see www.draeger.com/product- certificates
3.5 Type-identical marking
The type-identical identification marking can be found in the head cover of the chemical protective suit.
The symbols on the name plate have the following meanings (see page 2, figure A):

Use

4.1 Prerequisites for use
The environmental impact must be determined prior to use, since the suitability of the chemical protective suit must be determined before its use. The chemical protective suit must only be used for suitable purposes.
4.2 Preparations for use

  1. Perform a visual inspection of the chemical protective suit. Do not use a damaged chemical protective suit!

  2. Step into the suit legs before putting on the protective boots/shoes; once you have put on the boots, pull the cuffs down over the boots.
    a. Version with socks and leg cuffs: Put on protective boots, pull cuffs over the protective boots.

  3. Put your arms in the sleeves. Pull the thumb loop over your thumb.

  4. Do up the zip.

  5. Close the double cover flap. Make sure that the adhesive tape or hook-andloop fastener is completely flat and that there are no air pockets or unsealedareas.
    a. Version with hook-and-loop fastener: Place one strip on the other strip.
    b. Version with self-adhesive tape: Remove the film from the adhesive tapeand seal the cover flaps.

  6. Pull the hood over your head and close the chin flap.
    a. Version with hook-and-loop fastener: Place one strip on the other strip.
    b. Version with self-adhesive tape: Remove the film from the adhesive tapeand seal the chin flap.

  7. Depending on the application, put on breathing protection and protective gloves.
    a. Version with arm cuffs: Pull the arm cuff over the glove, close the Velcro tape tightly.

4.3 Observe during use
CAUTION
A build-up of heat in the chemical protective suit can cause a circulatory collapse.
► Wear a Dräger comfort vest underneath if necessary.

  • Observe the period of use, operation limits and specific national regulations. The maximum deployment duration also depends on the type of breathing apparatus used.
  • In case of emergency, leave the contaminated area immediately. Open zip in clean area only.
  • Heat stress and discomfort can be reduced or eliminated by using appropriate undergarments or suitable ventilation equipment.
  • Hearing ability can be impaired.

4.4 After use
4.4.1 Precleaning of the chemical protective suit
WARNING
Risk of contamination!
► Only touch contaminated parts with protective clothing.

  1. Leave the contaminated area and have the chemical protective suit precleaned with the aid of a helper. The helper must also wear protective clothing, and breathing apparatus where necessary. For precleaning, Dräger recommends using plenty of water to which a detergent has been added. This will sufficiently wash away most chemicals (acids, alkalis, organic and inorganic substances). Avoid spreading chemicals.
  2. In the event of contamination with hazardous substances, dispose of the waste water in line with the relevant waste water disposal regulations.

4.4.2 Remove the chemical protective suit
WARNING
Risk of contamination!
► Only take off the chemical protective suit in a non-contaminated area.

  1. Open the zip fastener and the covering flap.
  2. Pull the hood off your head.
  3. Take off the chemical protective suit.
  4. Remove the respiratory protective device.

Transport

Transport the chemical protective suit in its original packaging.

Storage

Store the chemical protective suit in a dark, cool, dry and airy place without pressure or stress and in its original packaging. Keep out of UV light and direct sunlight; avoid ozone. Observe the permitted storage temperature (see “General”, page 8).
If the chemical protective suit is not used and the storage conditions are adhered to, the chemical protective suit with self-adhesive tape has a life spanof five years. The chemical protective suit with hook-and-loop fastener has a life span of ten years.
CAUTION
If the storage conditions are not observed, the chemical protective suit may be damaged!

Disposal

The chemical protective suit must be disposed of in accordance with the applicable waste disposal regulations. The chemical protective suit can be disposed of thermally or on waste dumps. The form of disposal depends on the contamination.
