Function description

The Dräger X-node sensing head contains the signal processing electronics of a sensor in the DrägerSensor ® format. The sensing head and sensor together constitute the measurement system. The Vol% (volume percent), ppb (part per billion) or ppm (parts per million) measuring units are volume concentrations. Irrespective of the sensor used, the ambient pressure, temperature, relative humidity, acceleration and the alignment of the device are measured.
4.1 Status visualization
The status LED is controlled by the set alarm thresholds. The alarm thresholds are preconfigured specifically for each sensor (see sensor technical data) and can be changed individually.
Table 1

Status LEDs flashing Meaning
Flashing green The measured value is below the first alarm threshold.
Flashing yellow The measured value is between the first and second alarm

threshold.
Flashing red| The measured value is above the second alarm threshold.
Flashing blue| The sensor is not accepted by X node (incorrect sensor).

Other status messages can be found in the device’s technical manual.

Intended use

The measurement system constantly measures the concentration of the harmful gas, depending on the sensor used, in the ambient air under atmospheric conditions.

Usage

6.1 Prerequisites for use
CAUTION
Risk of malfunction
The function of the sensing head is tested prior to delivery, but a functional test must still be carried out after installation (see chapter “Testing the sensitivity”).
► A functional test must be carried out by the user.
6.2 Installing the sensor

  1. Twist off the bayonet ring (5).
  2. Remove the sensor from its packaging.
  3. Place the sensor (4) in the opening.
  4. Secure the sensor with the bayonet ring.

Dräger X-node app

To configure the sensing head, install the Dräger X-node app on a Bluetooth- enabled iOS or Android device.
The Dräger X-node app is used for data exchange with Dräger Xnode gas sensing heads via Bluetooth. The initial connection to the device via Bluetooth can only be established with the help of an Owner Key for reasons of safety. The Owner Key is enclosed in the package. Additional information can be found in the device’s technical manual.

Select the sensing head from the menu. The following functions are supported, among others:

  • Defining the PIN
  • LoRa provisioning
  • Querying user authorization
  • Displaying device data
  • Displaying measured values
  • Configuring the sensing head
  • Calibrating the sensor
  • Defining the alarm thresholds
  • Carrying out firmware updates
  • Logger of the last 7 days

Further operating instructions are provided in the Dräger X-node app.

Getting started

8.1 Mounting Dräger X-node
CAUTION
The sensing head can be damaged.
To ensure product safety even when an external power supply is connected to the micro USB socket, only an approved, commercially available USB power supply unit may be used that does not exceed the parameters 5.25 V / 3 A / 15 W.
► The sensing head may only be used with USB power supply units that comply with the USB 3.1 (Gen2) specification or lower.
CAUTION
The sensing head can be damaged.
No IP rating applies during the charging process.
► The sensing head must be protected against spray water and dust while the rechargeable battery is charging.
The internal rechargeable battery of the sensing head must be charged as follows prior to the installation of the sensor in the sensing head (3):

  1. Remove the seal for the micro USB port (6).
  2. Connect the plug of a micro USB cable to the micro USB port (6) of the sensing head.
  3. Connect the micro USB cable to a compatible power supply unit.
  4. Connect the power supply unit to the mains power supply.
  5. When the charging process is complete, the micro USB port must be resealed with the seal.

For optimum measurements the sensing head must be installed at the centre of the area to be monitored. The sensing head must be installed so that it is accessible for maintenance work and suspended from the mounting lug (1) or installed upright on the bayonet ring (5).
The sensing head must be mounted vertically with the sensor (5) pointing down, ±30 ° at a location with low vibration.

8.2 LoRa gateway connection
For successful data exchange between sensing head and gateway, the gateway must be within range. Additional information on LoRa can be found in the device’s technical manual.
8.3 Checking the sensitivity and the zero-point
Zero-point

  1. Start the Dräger X-node app.
  2. Press the “Calibrate zero-point” button in the “Calibration” menu item.
  3. Expose the sensor for zero calibration to an appropriate zero point gas (see app).

Sensitivity

  1. Start the Dräger X-node app.
  2. Press the “Span calibration” button in the “Calibration” menu item.
  3. Follow the instructions.
  4. Apply the gas from the test gas cylinder (1) with the gas supply adapter (2) to the sensor with a minimum of 0.5 L/min.

✓ The calibration is performed as soon as the sensor signal is stable or the maximum calibration time has expired. The maximum calibration time depends on the sensor type used (e.g. CO 6809605 3 min., NH3 6813735 5 min.).

Maintenance

The sensing head and the LoRa gateway do not require maintenance. The service life of the used sensor depends on the sensor type. When the sensor is taken out of the sensing head, the measurement system switches into the power-save mode. Further information about the sensor can be found in the respective sensor data sheet.
9.1 Maintenance
Observe the charge status of the internal rechargeable battery. Carry out a daily visual inspection to check the operational readiness. Have specialists carry out an annual device inspection and sensor calibration.
CAUTION
Health hazard
The dust filter in front of the sensor must not be contaminated. A contaminated filter prolongs the response time of the sensor. This affects the sensitivity.
► Replace the contaminated filter.
9.2 Cleaning
Clean the sensing head surface with lukewarm water. Check for mechanical damage.
CAUTION
The sensing head may be damaged
The sensing head must not be present when the area of use is cleaned and disinfected.
► Remove the sensing head from the area of use.

Transport

CAUTION
Risk of damage to the sensor
The sensor must be packed in pressure-tight packaging for shipping via air transport. The sensor can lose its measuring sensitivity.
► Only transport the sensor via air transport in the appropriate packaging.

Storage

The storage temperature may be between 0 °C and +40 °C. Note the maximum storage period as detailed on the packaging label.

Disposal

This product must not be disposed of as household waste. This is indicated by the adjacent symbol.
You can return this product to Dräger free of charge. For information please contact the national marketing organizations or Dräger.
