Feature description

  • They may only be used with certified respiratory filters from the X-plore series.
  • This includes e.g. uncapsulated particle filters, particle filters, gas filters or combination filters.
  • The full face masks can be used at temperatures from -30 °C to +60 °C. Mask spectacles can be inserted for users who wear spectacles.
  • A welding protective visor can be optionally attached for full face masks.
  • Among other factors, the service life depends on the type and concentration of contaminants and on the type of respiratory filter.

Intended use

  • The facepieces protect the face and eyes from aggressive media.

Limitations on use

WARNING: Beards and sideburns in the sealing area of the full face mask will cause leakages. Therefore, the full face mask should not be used by anyone with facial hair of this sort. Earpieces in the sealing area also cause leakages. Use special mask spectacles.

Approvals

The full face masks are approved according to:

  • EN 136 Cl. 2
  • AS/NZS 1716:2012
  • TP TC 019/2011

Use

Preconditions for use

  • The ambient conditions (particularly the types and concentrations of contaminants) must be known. Use corresponding respiratory filters. Only use self-contained open-circuit breathing apparatuses or air line breathing apparatuses in cases where the contaminant is unknown.
  • Always use two respiratory filters of the same type and from the same pack.
  • Only use filtering devices if the air does not directly endanger the health or life of the user.
  • It must be ensured that the ambient atmosphere cannot change for the worse.
  • Do not use filtering devices if there is suspicion of contaminants with low warning properties (low-odour, tasteless, no irritation of eyes and airways). A decreasing protective effect of the filtering device cannot be determined in this case.
  • Do not use filtering devices for entering unventilated tanks, mines, canals, etc.
  • Do not use filtering devices in oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
  • The oxygen content of the ambient air must not fall below the following limit values:
  • at least 17 Vol% oxygen in all European countries except the Netherlands, Belgium and UK
  • at least 19 Vol% oxygen in the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Australia and New Zealand
  • In other countries, observe the applicable national regulations.

Inserting the respiratory filter

  • The following description applies to uncapsulated particle filters, particle filters, gas filters and combination filters. For information on other filters from the X-plore series, refer to the relevant instructions for use.
  • Position the respiratory filter (see fold-out page, Figure B1) – line markings opposite! – and lock it as far as it will go (see fold-out page, Figure B2) by turning the respiratory filter downwards as far as it will go (line marking of the respiratory filter above the end of the arrow!).
  • The respiratory filter is released in the opposite direction.

CAUTION

  • Always fit the bayonet catch on both sides! The respiratory filter must be straight when locked in position!

Donning the facepiece

  • The sealing surface between head and full face mask must be free of hair and foreign objects as these could cause leakages. Spectacle wearers should wear mask spectacles.
  • If required, insert the mask spectacles.
  • Open the head harness as far as it will go (see fold-out page, Figure C).
  • At extremely low temperatures, the wearer should hold his breath briefly when donning the face mask. This prevents the inside of the visor from fogging up.
  • Release the full face mask from the standby position.
  • Pull the harness apart, then put your chin into the chin cup.
  • Pull the head harness over your head and draw it backwards.
  • Adjust the full face mask.
  • Pull the straps until evenly tightened; first the neck straps, then the temple straps, finally the front strap.

Checking for tight fit

  • If pad particle filters are used, only perform the overpressure test, since the pad cap does not seal the gas filter or pad plate airtight.

Negative pressure test (see fold-out page, Figure D)

  • Seal both respiratory filters with your hands or an aid (e.g. a nearly flat piece of cardboard) and breathe in until a negative pressure is generated. Hold your breath for a moment. The negative pressure should be maintained. If not, retighten the harness.

Overpressure test (see fold-out page, Figure E)

  • Seal the exhalation valve of the full face mask and breathe out forcefully. The full face mask must not lift off your face. If breathing air escapes through the sealing frame, retighten the harness.

CAUTION

  • Make sure that the full face mask is perfectly tight and the respiratory filters are fitted before entering the contaminated area.
  • If the suitability of the mask for use is impaired by application-specific influences, leave the danger zone immediately.

During use

Low temperatures

  • Protect the inside of the visor against fogging with “klar-pilot” anti-fog agent.

High temperatures

  • WARNING Risk of poisoning! Any signs of damage, e.g. bubbles in the visor, pose a risk of poisoning.
  • Leave the danger zone immediately.

In explosion hazard areas

  • Treat the full face mask incl. respiratory filter with antistatic spray.

Chemicals

  • Some substances can be absorbed by the material of the mask body or may even diffuse through it. Further information can be obtained from Dräger.

After use

  1. Remove the full face mask: Insert your index fingers underneath the flaps of the neck straps (see fold-out page, Figure F).
  2. Push the adjusting clamps forward with your thumbs and pull the full face mask away from your face and over your head at the same time. Do not pull on the connector or filter when doing so.
  3. Remove and dispose of both respiratory filters.
