Product Information

The Freestanding Tub Drain is a high-quality drain system designed for use with freestanding bathtubs. It is suitable for both wood sub-floor and concrete installations. The drain body is made of durable materials and comes with a pre-installed test plug for easy testing and installation. The drain assembly includes a protective cap cover that should be kept in place until ready for tub installation. The product is available with two different installation options: Brass Tailpiece Tub Installation and Schedule 40 PVC/ABS Tub Installation.

Brass Tailpiece Tub Installation

  1. Cut a 4-inch hole into the wood sub-floor using the supplied cutout template.
  2. Affix the drain body to the sub-floor using 4 screws. For concrete installations, use approved anchors and/or screws.
  3. Ensure the drain body is level.
  4. Confirm that the pre-installed test plug is securely in place in the drain opening.
  5. Test for leaks.
  6. Leave the test plug in the drain opening and secure the protective cap over the drain assembly until ready to set the tub.
  7. Install flooring up to the protective cap cover and do not remove it until ready for tub installation.
  8. Check the distance between the base of the tub drain and the base of the P-Trap to ensure it accommodates the supplied brass tailpieces.
  9. Select the appropriate threaded or flanged tailpiece and connect it to the tub drain using an ABS/PVC adapter if needed.
  10. If using a threaded tailpiece, use approved Oatey Thread Sealant to create a seal. If using a flanged tailpiece, use the supplied nut and washer.
  11. Apply the supplied lubricant to the tailpiece.
  12. Carefully lower the tub with the installed brass tailpiece into the drain opening, ensuring the tailpiece is fully engaged with the sealing mechanism.
  13. Make sure the tub base makes contact with the flooring.

Schedule 40 PVC/ABS Tub Installation

  1. Cut a 4-inch hole into the wood sub-floor using the supplied cutout template.
  2. Affix the drain body to the sub-floor using 4 screws. For concrete installations, use approved anchors and/or screws.
  3. Ensure the drain body is level.
  4. Confirm that the pre-installed test plug is securely in place in the drain opening.
  5. Test for leaks.
  6. Leave the test plug in the drain opening and secure the protective cap over the drain assembly until ready to set the tub.
  7. Install flooring up to the protective cap cover and do not remove it until ready for tub installation.
  8. Measure the distance between the inside ledge of the drain flange and the top of the finished floor (DIM A).
  9. Measure the distance from the top of the finished floor to the inside of the sanitary hub (DIM B).
  10. Use recommended steps for solvent cementing, including deburring and chamfering both sides of the pipe.
  11. Apply the supplied lubricant to the pipe.
  12. Carefully lower the tub with the installed Schedule 40 pipe into the drain opening, ensuring the tailpiece is fully engaged with the sealing mechanism.
  13. Make sure the tub base makes contact with the flooring.

USING INSTRUCTION

The Oatey® Freestanding Tub Drain Kit removes the guesswork and complexity from installing a freestanding/island center or offset tub. Simply connect the drain to the DWV system from above the floor at rough-in – only a 4 in. subfloor hole is needed. The compact, universally compatible drain works with brass or Schedule 40 tailpieces and easily connects to any plumbing configuration. Included in the kit are a pre-installed, tool-free quarter-turn leak test plug and an easy-to-grab protective cap to prevent drain tile-over.

ROUGH-IN – WOOD SUBFLOOR

  1. Cut 4 in. hole into wood sub-floor (use supplied cutout template).
  2. Affix drain body to sub-floor with 4 screws. For concrete installations, use approved anchors and/or screws.
  3. Ensure drain body is level.
  4. Use approved Oatey primer and cement to connect drain body to P-Trap below floor. If using 2 in. P-Trap, use supplied 1-½ in. x 2 in. Adapter

TESTING

  1. Confirm pre-installed test plug is secured in drain opening.
  2. Test for leaks.
  3. Leave test plug in drain opening and secure protective cap over drain assembly until ready to set the tub.

FLOORING INSTALLATION

  1. Install flooring up to protective cap cover. DO NOT remove until ready for tub installation.
  2. NOT for use with liquid applied or sheet membranes.

Depending on preferred tub drain connection method, select brass tailpiece or schedule 40 tub installation steps below.

BRASS TAILPIECE TUB INSTALLATION

  1. Remove protective cap cover and test plug (using counter clockwise ¼ turn) from drain assembly and remove any existing debris.

  2. Confirm distance between base of tub drain and base of P-Trap will accommodate the supplied brass tailpieces.
    NOTE: DO NOT CUT THE SUPPLIED BRASS TAILPIECES.

  3. Depending on tub drain, select threaded or flanged tailpiece and connect to tub drain. Use ABS/PVC adapter as needed.

    • If u sing threaded tailpiece, use approved Oatey Thread Sealant to create seal.
    • If u sing flanged tailpiece, use supplied nut and washer.
  4. Apply supplied lubricant to tailpiece.

  5. Carefully lower Tub with installed brass tailpiece into drain opening. Ensure tailpiece is fully engaged with sealing mechanism.

  6. Ensure tub base makes contact with flooring.

SCHEDULE 40 PVC/ABS TUB INSTALLATION

  1. Remove protective cap cover and test plug (using counter clockwise ¼ turn) from drain assembly and remove any existing debris.
  2. Measure distance between inside ledge of the drain flange to top of the finished floor (DIM A).
  3. Measure distance from top of finished floor to inside of sanitary hub (DIM B).
  4. Add these two measurements and an additional 1-½ in. Cut pipe to this length.
  5. Use recommended steps for solvent cementing which includes deburring and chamfering both sides of the pipe.
  6. Apply supplied lubricant to pipe.
  7. Carefully lower tub with installed Schedule 40 pipe into drain opening. Ensure tailpiece is fully engaged with sealing mechanism.
  8. Ensure tub base makes contact with flooring.

EXAMPLE

  • Inside Ledge of Drain Flange to Top of Finished Floor – 1-¼ in.
  • Top of Finished Floor to Inside Fitting Hub – 2-½ in.
  • Add Additional 1-½ in.
  • Total Length of Pipe – 5-¼ in.
