SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

SAFETY IN THE WORK AREA
  • Keep the work area clean and well lit. Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gas or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
  • Keep children and onlookers at a safe distance when working with a power tool. You can lose control of the tool if you are distracted.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
  • The plug on the power tool must match the power point. Never modify the plug in any way. Never use adapters with earthed power tools. Intact plugs and matching outlets reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.
  • Handle the power cord carefully. Never use the power cord to carry or pull the power tool, or to pull out the plug from the mains. Keep the power cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or tangled power cords increase the risk of electric shock.
  • When you use a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord intended for outdoor use. Using cords intended for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • If you have to use a power tool in damp conditions, use a mains connection protected by a residual current device RCD. Using an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
  • Stay alert, pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.
  • Use safety equipment. Always wear safety glasses. The correct use of safety equipment such as a dust filter mask, non-slip safety shoes, helmets and ear protection, reduces the risk of personal injury.
  • Avoid accidental starting. Check that the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting to the mains and/or the battery, or lifting/carrying the tool. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains supply when the switch is in the ON position, increases the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Remove all adjuster keys/spanners before switching on the power tool. A spanner left in a rotating part of the power tool can result in personal injury.
  • Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This will ensure you have better control over the tool in unexpected situations.
  • Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothing, jewellery or long hair can fasten in moving parts.
  • If dust extraction and dust collection equipment is available, this should be connected and used correctly. The use of such devices can reduce the risk of dust-related problems.
USING AND LOOKING AFTER POWER TOOLS
  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work.
The correct power tool will work better and more safely when used with the load for which it was designed.

  • Do not use the power tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.

  • Unplug the plug from the mains and/or remove the battery from the power tool before making any adjustments, replacing accessories or putting the tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidently starting the power tool.

  • Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of inexperienced users.

  • Keep the power tool properly maintained. Check that moving parts are not misaligned, jammed or loose, and that there are no other factors that could affect the safe use of the tool. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before being used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

  • Make sure that cutting tools are sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.

  • Use the power tool, accessories and bits etc., in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the actual working conditions and the work that is to be done. Using the power tool for anything other than its intended purpose can lead to dangerous situations.

  • Keep handles clean, dry and free from oil and grease. Greasy handles make it difficult to hold the product risk of personal injury and/or material damage.

SERVICE

Make sure that the power tool is serviced by qualified technicians that only use identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BANDSAWS
Precautionary measures
  • Check the band for damage and distortion, and replace if necessary.
  • Check the saw table insert for wear, and replace if necessary.
  • Connect the bandsaw to equipment for dust extraction and collection if wood is to be sawn.
  • Do not start the bandsaw if the band guard is not closed.
  • Select a suitable band and the right band speed for the workpiece and the material to be sawn.
  • Do not attempt to clean the band or other moving parts before they have stopped.
  • Wear safety gloves when handling the band and workpieces with sharp edges or burrs.
Safe use
  • Use always a pusher when sawing small workpieces against the parallel fence.
  • When transporting the bandsaw the band guard should be in its lowest position, near the saw table.
  • For mitre sawing with the table at an angle the parallel fence should placed on the bottom part of the table.
  • Round or irregularly shaped workpieces should be braced in the table with suitable clamps to ensure that they do not rotate or move.
  • Use transport protection when transporting the bandsaw. Never use the band guards or covers as lifting points, or as support or transport protection.
  • Adjustable guards should always be set to the minimum possible distance from the workpiece.
  • Long workpieces should be secured so that they do not roll, and so they do not tip over at the end of the sawing.
  • When the pusher is not used it should be kept in the immediate vicinity of the bandsaw. Store the pusher in the holder on the back of the bandsaw.
MINIMISATION OF NOISE AND VIBRATION
  • Plan the work so that exposure to heavy vibrations is spread over a longer period.
  • To reduce noise and vibrations when in use, limit the time the tool is in use, and use low-power/vibration mode and suitable safety equipment.
  • Take the following precautions to minimise the risks of exposure to vibrations and/or noise:
    – Only use the tool in accordance with these instructions.
    – Check that the tool is in good condition.
    – Only use accessories that are in good condition, and suitable for the job.
    – Keep a firm grip on the handles/ grips.
    – Maintain and lubricate the tool in accordance with these instructions.

TECHNICAL DATA

Always wear ear protection!
The declared values for vibration and noise, which have been measured according to a standardised test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The measurement values have been determined in accordance with EN 61029-2-5:2011.

WARNING!
The actual vibration and noise level when using tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used and the material. It is therefore necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start- up time)

Choice of saw blade
The supplied saw blade is of the universal type. Take the following into consideration when choosing a saw blade.
– Thinner blades can be used for sawing a smaller radius than a wider saw blade.
– Wide saw blades are used for straight cuts. This is important when sawing wood, because the blade tends to follow the grain in the wood and therefore deviate from the saw line.
– Fine-toothed blades produce finer cuts than coarse-toothed blades, but the sawing is slower.

NOTE:
Never use deformed or damaged saw blades.

SAWING

WARNING!

  • Incorrect handling can result in a risk of severe personal injury.

  • Always be careful when sawing.

  • When starting the saw, wait until the band has reached top speed before starting to saw.

  • Before sawing set the top blade guide to the smallest possible gap from the workpiece to be sawn, and lock the guide in this position.

  • Use a feeder when sawing small workpieces.

  • Long workpieces should be secured so that they do not roll, and so they do not tip over at the end of the sawing.
    NOTE:

  • Always use the parallel fence when sawing diagonally.

  • Saw a test piece every time a setting is changed, to check that it works.

  • Check and if necessary clear the extraction duct at regular intervals.

Starting and stopping

  1. Press the green power switch button I to start. Wait until the band has reached top speed before starting to saw.
  2. Press the red power switch button 0 to switch off.
  3. Unplug the power cord.
  4. Wait until the band has stopped and then remove the workpiece from the saw table.
  5. Allow the bandsaw to cool.

WARNING!

  • Always check before use that the band is correctly adjusted and has the correct tension.
  • Wait until the band has completely stopped before leaving the work area.

IMPORTANT:
The bandsaw is power-failure protected, which means the saw must be started again with the power switch after a power cut.

Parallel fence

  1. Lift up the clip on the parallel fence.
  2. Move the parallel fence along the saw table to the left or right of the blade to the required position.
  3. Push down the clip on the parallel fence. If the clip does not lock the parallel fence firmly in place, turn it clockwise to lock the fence.
  4. Check that the parallel fence is parallel with the blade.
    FIG. 15

Lengthwise sawing
Lengthwise sawing is sawing the workpiece in the direction of the grain. The workpiece should lie flush with the table with one side pressed against the parallel fence.

  1. Adjust the parallel fence to the height of the workpiece and the required cutting width.
  2. Set the top band guide.
  3. Start the dust extraction first, and then start the bandsaw.
  4. Clench your hands, hold them flat on the workpiece and push it along the parallel fence to the band (14).
  5. After sawing, first switch off the bandsaw and then the dust extraction.
    FIG. 16

NOTE:
Wait until the band has completely stopped before cleaning the saw table.

Diagonal/bevelled cuts

  1. Adjust the table to the required angle.
  2. Fit the parallel fence in relation to the width and height of the workpiece.

Freehand sawing

  1. Lower the blade guide to the workpiece.
  2. Start the product.
  3. Hold the workpiece firmly on the table.
  4. Move the workpiece slowly past the blade to follow the saw line.
  5. It can help to first saw off parts to about 6 mm from the saw line.
  6. For curved lines with such a small radius that they cannot be saw correctly, it can help to make several cuts and right angles to an almost up to the saw line. The sawn material will fall off when the curved line is sawn.
  7. After sawing, first switch off the bandsaw and then the dust extraction.
  8. Wait until the band has completely stopped before cleaning the saw table.
    FIG. 18 45

WARNING!

  • Always hold the part of the workpiece to be cut, not the part that is cut off.

Removing jammed material
Switch off the bandsaw immediately and pull out the plug if the band fastens in the workpiece, or if a blockage occurs.
WARNING!
