SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING!
Always take basic safety precautions when using power tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and/or personal injury. Read these instructions before use and save them for future reference.

  • Keep the work area clean. Cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture.
  • Do not use power tools in damp or wet areas.
  • Keep the work area well lit.
  • Do not use power tools near flammable liquids or gas.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators.
  • Keep onlookers, especially children, and also pets at a safe distance from the work area. Do not allow onlookers to touch the tool or extension cord.
  • Put away power tools when not in use. Stored them in a dry place and out of the reach of children.
  • Do not force the power tool. The tool does the job better and more safely when used at the rate for which it was designed.
  • Do not force small tools or accessories to do work that requires a powerful tool.
  • Use tools only for their intended purpose (e.g. do not use a circular saw to cut tree branches).
  • Do not wear loose-fitting clothing, jewellery or a watch that can get caught in moving parts.
  • Wear non-slip shoes.
  • Wear a hair net if you have long hair.
  • Wear safety glasses.
  • Wear a dust filter mask if the work produces a lot of dust.
  • If dust extraction and dust collection equipment is available, this should be connected and used correctly.
  • Do not pull the power cord to unplug the plug. Keep the power cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
  • Secure the workpiece. Secure if possible the workpiece with clamps, clips or a vice. Do not hold the workpiece with your hands.
  • Always maintain a firm footing and good balance.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean for better, safer work.
  • Follow the instructions for lubrication and the replacement of accessories.
  • Check the power cord regularly. A damaged cord or plug must be replaced by an authorised service centre or qualified person to ensure safe use.
  • Check extension cords regularly and replace them if damaged.
  • Keep the handles clean, dry and free from oil and grease.
  • Switch off the product, pull out the plug, and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before cleaning, maintenance and/or replacing accessories. Pull out the plug when the product is not in use.
  • Remove adjuster keys/spanners before switching on the power tool.
  • Check that the power switch is switched off before plugging in the plug.
  • If using the tool outdoors, only use an extension cord approved for outdoor use.
  • Pay attention to what you are doing at all times, and use your common sense. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
  • Before using the tool, make sure it is not damaged and that it is working properly and in the intended manner.
  • Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality.
  • Guards or other parts that are damaged must be repaired or replaced by an authorised service centre, unless otherwise specified in these instructions.
  • If the power switch does not work, it must be replaced by an authorised service centre or other qualified personnel.
  • Do not use the power tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT:
Follow the safety instructions when working with power tools to reduce the risk of electric shock, personal injury and fire. In addition to these instructions, you must always comply with the applicable regulations and laws concerning health, safety and the environment, as well as good praxis for working with wood processing machines.

  • Do not use the power tool unless all the safety devices are correctly fitted and working.
  • Never use planer heads that are blunt, warped, deformed or otherwise damaged – risk of kickback.
  • The part of the planer head not in contact with the workpiece must be covered by  the guard.
  • Use a feeder when planing short workpieces.
  • Use an extra clamp when planing thin workpieces.
  • Do not use a planer and thicknesses for chamfering or to cut slots, or rebates etc.
  • Check the functionality of the kickback guard and the spindle at regular intervals to ensure that the power tool remains  safe to use.
  • If dust extraction and dust collection equipment is available, this should be  connected and used correctly.

Always wear ear protection!
The declared values for vibration and noise, which have been measured according to a standardised test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The measurement values have been determined in accordance with EN 61029-2-3:2011.
WARNING!
The actual vibration and noise level when using tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used and the material. It is therefore necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start- up time).

DESCRIPTION

Planer and thicknesses with adjustable jointing fence and thickness table with swivel fence for beveling. The thickness table is made of aluminium and the planer has pull-out tool shelves.
The product is not suitable for:

  • workpieces with reinforcement
  • workpieces with cavities, knots or cutouts
  • curved workpieces.

UNPACKING

  • Carefully remove the product and all the accessories from the packaging. Check that all the parts on the list are included and undamaged.
  • Check the product and all the accessories for transport damage.
  • Do not discard the packaging material before you have checked and used the product.

FITTING THE RUBBER FEET

Fit the rubber feet (3) with the four hex screws (19).

FITTING THE FENCE

  1. Locate the two mounting holes (20) for the fence on the fixed outfeed table (13) for the surface planing side. Align the guard plate to the outfeed table.
  2. Align the mounting holes in the guard plate and fence to the holes in the outfeed table.
  3. Put the two supplied hex screws in the holes and tighten the guard plate and fence to the outfeed table. NOTE: Do not overtighten, this can damage the table.

HANDLE TO ADJUST HEIGHT
Put the handle to adjust the height (11) in the spindle (16).

  1. Remove the nut and washer (21) from the middle locating screw.
  2. Lower the thickness table (18) to its lowest position by turning the handle to adjust height anticlockwise. Locate the three holes (22) in the thickness table (18) and the safety switch under the surface planing table (33).
  3. Put in the dust extraction funnel (17) and fit the locating screws in the holes (22), and also check that the tab (33) engaged with the safety switch.
  4. When the dust extraction funnel is correctly aligned to the thickness table, raise the table to its highest position so that the funnel is pressed against the surface planing table.
  5. Replace the nut and washer removed in step (a).
  6. Fasten the dust extraction adapter (7) in the funnel.

FITTING THE CUTTER GUARD ARM

  1. Fit the arm unit (14) with the locating tap (25) and height adjusting column (24).
  2. Put on the washer and tighten the lock nut on the locating tap (25).
  3. Tighten the angle adjusting knob (12) on the height adjusting column (24).

DUST EXTRACTION FUNNEL (THICKNESS PLANING)

  1. Locate the two threaded holes (26) on the outfeed table (13).

  2. Tighten the dust extraction funnel on the outfeed table (13) with the two lock knobs (27).
    The tab (28) should engage with the safety switch beside the surface planing table. The safety switch clicks when the lock knobs are tightened.

  3. Fasten the dust extraction adapter (7) in the funnel (17).

USE

IMPORTANT:

  • Keep your hands away from moving parts.
  • Do not force the product. Do not feed in the workpiece with such force that the speed of the motor drops, or the motor stops completely – this damages the motor and considerably reduces its life span.
  • Planer heads lasts longer if only high quality wood is used.
  • The maximum planing depth (3 mm for surface planing and 2 mm for thickness planing) should only be used in soft wood.

SURFACE PLANING
Fit the dust extraction funnel and check that it engages with the safety switch. Set the planing depth with the adjusting knob.
The infeed table (6) goes up/down when the knob is turned.

  • Turn the knob (5) clockwise to reduce the planing depth and anticlockwise to increase.
  • An arrow (29) points to the set planing depth on the scale (30).

Adjusting the fence

  • Turn the lock handle (31) to set the angle of the fence anticlockwise to release the fence.
  • Move the fence to the required angle. The set angle is shown on the scale on the scale (32).
  • Tighten the lock handle (31) to lock the fence.

NOTE:
There are stop lugs at 45° and 90° to simplify adjusting the fence at these angles.
Adjusting cutter guard

  • Release the knob (10) for the cutter guard and push back the guard (9) as far as it goes.
  • Place the workpiece flush against the fence.
  • Push the cutter guard (9) towards the workpiece (leaving a gap of a few millimeters between the guard and the workpiece).
  • Tighten the lock knob (10) for the cutter guard.

SURFACE PLANING THE WORKPIECE
The product is safe to use when the planing depth, fence and cutter guard are correctly adjusted.

  • Check that the cutter and workpiece are unobstructed and that the cutter rotates freely.
  • Start the product.
  • Wait until the cutter has reached maximum speed.
  • Place the workpiece on the infeed table and move it slowly over the rotating cutter.
  • Repeat until the workpiece has the required thickness. Use a feeder or feed block to move the workpiece past the cutter. Never work with your hands near the cutter.

THICKNESS PLANING

  • Fit the dust extraction funnel. Release the cutter guard knob (10) and push back the guard (9) as far as it goes and fit the funnel. Check that the safety switch engages.
  • Measure the thickness of the workpiece. Lower the thickness table to a height slightly more than the measured thickness of the workpiece by turning the height adjusting handle. The set height of the workpiece is shown on the scale (26) by the arrow (25).
  • Start the product and wait until the cutter has reached maximum speed.
  • Place the workpiece on the thickness table.
  • Turn the height adjusting handle (11) a half turn clockwise to raise the table. Continue to slowly lift the table until the workpiece comes in contact with the rotating cutter.
  • When the workpiece comes in contact with the cutter it is pulled automatically in towards and past the cutter by the rotation of the cutter.
  • Repeat until the workpiece has the required thickness.

BLADE REMOVAL, REPLACEMENT AND SET UP
Blade removal
Lessen blade and blade holder retaining bolts (AA). Slide out the blade and clean bearings and blade holder using an oily cloth.

Place blade alignment tool over blade roller (AB). Blade should touch underside of tool without raising it off the bed.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING!
Switch off the product, pull out the plug and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before doing and maintenance.

  1. Always check the product before use.
  2. Clean the product at regular intervals, especially the planing tables and the area around the base of the product.
  3. Remove and clear the dust extraction funnel after use.
  4. Unscrew both screws on the front panel every 10 working hours, lift off the front panel and grease the bearing bushings and the threaded height adjusting spindle.

ADJUSTING THE STOP LUGS FOR THE FENCE TO 90° AND 45°
The stop lugs for 90° and 45° are set at the factory to ensure a high degree of precision.
In time, however, the lugs can shift and must be reset.

  • Release the lock handle (20) to set the angle of the fence.
  • Hold a set square firmly against the surface planing table.
  • Adjust the fence to the set square – this gives and angle of 90° between the table and fence.
  • Undo the lock nut (a).
  • Tighten/undo the angle lock screw until it is flush with the angle stop lug on the angle guide (19). Check that fence angle is 90°.
  • Tighten the lock nut to hold the screw firmly in place.
  • Undo the indicator screw (c) and set the arrow to 90° (0°).
  • To adjust the stop lug to 45°, adjust the fence so that the arrow points to 45°.
  • Undo the lock nut for 45°.
  • Tighten/undo the angle lock screw until it is flush with the stop lug for 45° on the angle guide.
  • Tighten the lock nut to hold the parts in place.

PLANER THICKNESSER TABLES
Regularly the tables of saw dust and more importantly any build up of sap. Apply a small squirt of moisture dispersant/penetration spray and wipe over with a cloth.
Take care to vacuum out saw dust from the thicknesses height adjustment spindles, blade assembly, belt drive housings, anti-kickback fingers and from around the microswitches.
STORAGE AND TRANSPORT IMPORTANT:
Switch off the product, pull out the plug and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before transporting the product or putting it into storage.
When the product is not in use the cutter guard should be lowered so that it completely covers the cutter, in so far as the product is not configured for thickness planing and the cutter is therefore covered by the dust extraction funnel.

  • Store the product in a dry and safe place, out of the reach of children.
  • Never put anything on top of the product.
  • It is recommended to store the product in the original pack, or otherwise protected from dust.
  • During transport the product should be loaded and secured in such a way that it cannot slide, tip over or be subjected to knocks or vibration.

TROUBLESHOOTING

IMPORTANT:
Troubleshooting can involve the risk of accidents, in that the guard needs to be removed or disconnected.
It is therefore necessary to be very careful during all troubleshooting and to observe all the requisite safety precautions.
WARNING!
Switch off the product, pull out the plug and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before troubleshooting. Service and/or repairs must only carried out by an authorised service centre or other qualified personnel.
