How to operate your appliance
Switching on
We recommend preparing the ingredients for your sandwiches before switching-
on. The sandwich maker heats up quickly.
Connect the appliance to the mains supply. The appliance is now switched on and heats up. The red pilot lamp glows. As soon as the appliance is heated-up the red pilot lamp expires whilst the green pilot lamp lights up and indicates that the appliance has reached the operating temperature. You can start fi lling now.
Note: Always heat up the appliance with lid closed. This saves energy.
Operating
Fill the sandwiches according to your taste and fantasy.
Note: For a good toasting result we recommend not fi lling the sandwiches too plumply so that no ingredients escape. Make sure the fi lling is arranged equally. Release the locking clamp on the handle and open the appliance.
CAUTION: Hazard of burns! Sandwich plates are getting hot!
Place the sandwiches central onto the lower sandwich plates. Close the
appliance. It is best to use both hands (thumb and goatee fi nger) for easy
locking. Close the locking clamp on the handle. The green pilot lamp expires,
the appliance is heating up again. This is signalled by the red pilot lamp.
The sandwiches are ready after 2 to 5 minutes – depending on the ingredients,
fi lling quantity and desired toasting level The illumination of the green
pilot lamp is not a ready signal. It only indicates that the sandwich maker
has reached the operating temperature. Decide for yourself how you like your
sandwiches and check the level of browning. Take the sandwiches out by using a
wooden or heat-resistant plastic spatula in order to avoid damaging the non-
stick coating of the sandwich plates. When the green pilot lamp glows again,
the appliance can be fi lled anew.
Switching off
Switch off the appliance by
pulling the mains plug. The pilot lamps expire.
Attention! During operation, the appliance’s surfaces are getting hot and fi rstly stay hot even after switching off the appliance! Hazard of burns!
Tips for success
- You can oil the toast plates before use. This must be done when the appliance has cooled down before it is heated up.
- The outside of the toast slices can also be lightly brushed with butter, margarine or oil.
- Toast in the “American Sandwich” format (approx. 12 cm edge length) is best suited foryour sandwiches. Smaller slices of bread do not have surface contact with the sandwich plate and are therefore not toasted quite as evenly.
- In addition to wheat toast, try multigrain or wholegrain toast.
- The toasting results depend heavily on the type of toast used. Toast with a fi ne crumb browns evenly and quickly, while wholemeal toast generally browns a little more slowly and less.
- Also try sweet versions with ready-made puff pastry and fruit fi lling.
Cleaning and maintenance
CAUTION: Hazard of injury and burns!
- Always unplug the appliance before cleaning!
- Do not immerse appliance, power cord and power plug in water nor clean it under running water!
- Always let the appliance cool down before cleaning!
- Clean the appliance after each use. It is best to clean it when it is lukewarm.
- Wipe the housing with a soft damp cloth with some detergent. The non-stick coating makes the sandwich plates very easy to clean. Wipe them with a damp cloth and dry them.
- Brush stubborn residues with a little oil and let them soak for 5 minutes. Then wipe again with a damp cloth.
- Never immerse the appliance in water and make sure no steam or water can infi ltrate the underside of the appliance.
- Never use sharp objects, steel wool, abrasive pads, abrasives and solvents or oven sprays!
- Never treat the appliance and accessory parts with a steam cleaner!
Disposal/recycling
Packaging material
Do not simply throw the packaging material away but recycle it. Deliver paper,
cardboard and corrugated cardboard to waste paper collection points. Also put
plastic packaging material and foils into the specifi c collection containers.
The printed or embossed markings indicate the materials whichwere used: PE
stands for polyethylene (code 02 means high-density PE, 04 stands for low-
density PE), PS stands for polystyrene and CPE for chlorinated polyethylene.
PAP 20 means corrugated cardboard and PAP 21 other cardboard. All plastics are
thermoplastics which are very easy and effi cient to produce. They are also
very easy to recycle and therefore can even have a smaller ecological
footprint than comparable cardboard packaging.
