Interesting facts

  • The taste of beverages containing coffee depends on the quality of the used coffee or espresso beans. A requirement for the aromatic preparation of beverages with coffee is the perfect grinding of the roasted beans as this is increasing the surface for the contact with water and thus, the release of flavours.
  • A roasted coffee bean contains more than 1,000 different flavouring substances. The finer the grinding, the more substances are released.
  • After a few minutes already, the ground powder is losing more than 50 % of its flavour. Therefore, coffee specialists recommend storing whole coffee beans and only grinding the quantity just needed.

Standby mode

  • The appliance is equipped with an energy-saving standby function.
  • The appliance switches to standby mode if no further button is pressed within two minutes after connection to the power supply resp. after the last grinding process.
  • The appliance switches to ready state if any button is pressed

Integrated scale

  • The appliance is equipped with a scale. With the integrated scale you can grind coffee powder from whole beans accurately weighed-to-the gram.
  • In factory setting, the scale is adjusted so that the supplied powder container with fitted cover corresponds to the tare weight “0-position” on the scale.
  • Of course, you can also put another container (e.g. a coffee filter for hand-made coffee) on the scale and have the coffee powder ground directly into this container. In this case, the tare weight (“0”-position) has to be adjusted to the corresponding container.
  • In order to guarantee a proper function of the scale it is necessary to place the appliance on an even surface and that the appliance does not wobble during operation.
NOTE: The scale only works with the functions “portion-controlled” and “weight-controlled” grinding. The maximum load of the scale is 3 kg.

Checking or re-setting the tare weight (,,0″-position)

  • Place an empty container (e.g. the supplied powder container with fitted cover) on the scale plate.
  • When the display shows , the scale must be set to the new tare weight.
  • To do so, press the button
  • Pressing the button is confirmed with a signal tone.
  • The display shows one after the other. As soon as the display has extinguished, the container on the scale disk is adjusted as tare weight.

Setting the grinding degree

  • Different coffee beverages also require a different grinding degree; but also the type and roasting of the beans as well as your personal taste make the decision on how finely the coffee powder needs to be ground. Take our recommendations (see below) as a basis and just try it out yourself until you have found your individually matching grinding degree by means of the very variable setting options.
    setting| application
    ---|---
1 – 10| •  extra-finely ground powder is recommended for automatic pump pressure espresso machines.
10 – 20| •  finely ground powder is suitable for filter coffee machines and for hand brewed coffee.
20 – 30| •  medium ground powder is used in conventional automatic boiler espresso machines and espresso makers.
30 – 39| •  coarsely ground powder is suitable for piston pump coffee makers (”French Press“).
  • By turning the setting ring below the beans container to the right or to the left, the grinding degree can be individually adjusted.
  • Setting “1” means extra-fine powder, setting “39” very coarsely ground powder.

Conical burr grinder with anti-block system

  •  This appliance is equipped with a high-quality conical burr grinder which allows to grind whole beans in a particularly aroma-saving way.
  •  In order to protect the appliance against damage by foreign bodies (e.g. small stones) in the coffee beans, the grinder is equipped with a slip clutch. If the grinder is blocked, the grinding cone is automatically separated from the motor clutch, but the motor continues to run. In this case, stop the appliance and disconnect the mains plug from the socket. Disassemble the chamber of the grinder and remove the blockage in the grinder. Then you can use the appliance again.

Prior to initial use

  •  For a start, please clean the appliance as well as all accessories and remove the sticker from the display of the appliance. For a more detailed information, please refer to chapter “Cleaning and maintenance”.
