INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION

  1. Preparing Rough Opening:
    • Determine the minimum height required from the subfloor to the Rough Header by calculating the door height plus 5″. Calculate the rough opening width by multiplying the door width by two and adding 1″.
    • For bipart pocket openings, the rough opening width equals four times door widths plus 2″. An optional SLALCNVG KIT converging kit is needed to join headers in a bi-part pocket opening (sold separately)
    • Example:
    • Door Height: 80″ + 5″ = 85″
    • Door Width: 30″ x 2 + 1″ = 61″
    • Bi-Part Openings:
    • Door Height: 80″ + 5″ = 85″
    • Door Width: Two 30″ wide doors. 4 x 30″ = 120″ plus 2″ = 122
  2. Cutting Header
    • a) Cut Header Board by measuring two times the door width plus 1″. Mark and cut header wood only. Header wood must be cut from the pocket end of the header as shown.
    • b) Turn the header over and cut the metal track 1 1/2″ shorter than the Header Board.
    • c) Cut nailing strips to door width plus 1″ as shown. Do not cut the track on this side of the Header Assembly.
  3. Installing End Bracket
    • Use two (2) #8 x 5/8″ screws and attach the End Bracket to the opposite end of the Header Track Assembly.
  4. Installing Header Track Assembly
    • a) Measuring from subfloor up, set one nail door height plus 1 3/8″ leaving 1/8″ of the nail protruding on each stud forming the rough opening. This will allow a 3/4″ clearance under the door to the subfloor. If additional clearance is required, add additional clearance to the 1 3/8″ dimension.
    • b) Slide End Brackets onto protruding nails.
    • c) Ensure the track is plumb and level.
    • d) Set nails and drive in additional # 8 x 5/8″ screws through the remaining holes in End Brackets.
  5. Installing Split Studs and Floor Brackets
    • NOTES: The total length of the studs is door height plus 4″. Standard Stud length is designed for use with 7’0″ doors.
    • For 6’8″ doors cut 4″ off the bottom of Studs. Make sure the floor Bracket Prong can slide into Split Stud.
    • Models SLAL-250-PDKIT-EXT, SLAL-250-PDKIT-6-EXT, SLAL-250-PDKT-6M-EXT:
    • For doors over 7’0″ up to 9’0″ cut Stud Extensions to the desired length, and couple to Studs using Stud Splice Brackets. Using #8 x 5/8″ screws.
    • a) Insert Prong Tabs from the Floor Bracket into Split Stud on the flush end with wood exposed as shown.
    • b) Stand Split Stud up so the wood facing is exposed on the drywall side and so Stud is flush against Header Track Assembly and butts against Nailing Strip. Nail into place using 2″ nails.
    • c) Place the remaining Split Stud on prongs and nail to the opposite side of the Header Track Assembly.
    • d) Secure the bracket to the floor.
    • e) Repeat steps for the second set of Split Studs. Position second set midway in the pocket opening.
    • IMPORTANT: Check between split studs for clearance. If using 1 3/8″ door, 2″ clearance is ample. If using a 1 3/4″ door, additional clearance will be required. Install SLAL-134-KIT (included).
  6. Installing Bumper
    • Using one (1) #8 x 5/8″ screw, secure the Bumper to the rough jamb at the back of the pocket approximately 40″ from the floor.
  7. Installing Temporary Brace (Optional Step)
    • Insert 1″ x 2 1/8″ board through Split Jambs, with the board resting on the Bumper; nail a support leg to the board as shown.
    • This brace is for added support while installing drywall, paneling, or other wall covering material. Remove the brace before installing a door.
  8. Installing Door Plates on Door Panel
    • Position both Door Plates on the top side of the door panel at least 1 3/4″ in from the left and right edges of the door panel as shown. Center Door Plates in door thickness. Ensure opening ports face inward as shown.
    • Mark for fasteners and pre-drill using 9/64″ bit. Drill holes 1″ deep. Secure Door Plates to the top of the door panel using four (4) #12 x 1 3/8″ screws, two (2) for each Door Plate.
  9. Installing Hangers INTO TRACK
    • From the open end of the track, slide both Hangers into the track as shown.
    • Installing Hangers with Soft Close into track, refer to Soft Close Instructions that are supplied with the Soft Close.
  10. Installing Door
    • a) Insert the door onto the Hanger by lifting the door and sliding the Door Plate onto the post as shown.
    • b) Using the wrench provided turn the post to adjust the door vertically so it has sufficient floor clearance and is level. Do not unscrew the post from Hanger.
    • c) When the door is in position you need to lock the door plate.
  11. Installing Door Guide
    • With nylon guides facing toward the door opening, fasten Door Guide to Split Jamb using #8 x 1″ screws as shown.
    • Option
    • Floor Guide requires a 1/4″ x 7/8″ mortise.
  12. Installing Door Trim
    • a) Adjust Door Guides before installing trim. Install door trim over Door Guides allowing 3/16″ clearance between door and guide.
    • b) Install In-Track Stop at the desired location.
  13. Alternate Guide (Included)
    • Floor Guide furnished may be used if desired. Install the inside Pocket at the desired location. Door must be mortised 1/4″ x 7/8″
